Simulation-Driven Digital Twin Design with Solid Edge + FLOEFD
What do you like best about the product?
We use Siemens Solid Edge as the backbone of our product and factory development lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning. All machinery layouts, custom equipment designs, and factory expansion models are developed in Solid Edge, allowing us to rapidly iterate designs, validate fit within real-world constraints, and maintain a single, accurate digital representation of our production environment.
By integrating Simcenter FLOEFD directly within Solid Edge, we move beyond traditional CAD into simulation-driven design. We actively simulate airflow, temperature distribution, and humidity behaviour across our processing and packaging environments—critical for drying performance, product consistency, and hygiene compliance. This enables us to identify issues such as condensation risk, airflow inefficiencies, and thermal inconsistencies before physical implementation.
The value this delivers is substantial:
Reduced risk: Problems are identified and solved digitally before capital is committed or equipment is installed.
Faster decision-making: Design iterations that would take weeks physically are completed in hours.
Optimised performance: Equipment and facility layouts are engineered for real operating conditions, not assumptions.
Cost efficiency: Minimises rework, avoids overdesign, and improves ROI on major capital investments.
Scalable digital foundation: As we expand, our full factory exists as a validated digital twin, supporting future automation, upgrades, and process optimisation.
In short, Solid Edge combined with FLOEFD allows us to design smarter, de-risk faster, and execute expansion projects with a level of confidence and precision that would not be achievable with CAD alone.
The UI has been greatly improved in its feel and operation. Making it more modern and user friendly. Really happy about the dark mode addition as well.
In overall the performance has improved on the operation of the software. Enjoying the performance mode it has to offer.
Pricing is ok but feel like better options and bundles should be created to allow for adding more employees easier.
The Siemens Academy use to be the go to but needs more work done, cannot wait for the revamp to be completed. There are tons of resources online that are helpful when required.
New AI features are really helpful for speeding up daily use!
Keep adding more please!

What do you dislike about the product?
It really is a one of a kind Digital creation software that can be used in all industries globally. Its hard to dislike since it is so versatile and adaptable. But if I had to choose something, maybe not utilizing enough multi core threading would be one.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to create anything I can think of, like my imagination would be the limitation and not the software. Thinking outside the box is needed for my career and I know that Solid Edge is standing ready to make it a reality!
Easy-to-Use Visual Drawings and Models That Enhance Design Understanding
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use for viewing and editing drawing and part files. It really helps to have a visual drawing and model to check the design process and understand how it will work in a real-life environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
For some users, it can feel a bit overwhelming to use at first, so it’s best to start with small steps and ease into it gradually. need a lot of computing power
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid Edge has helped me design and assemble the actual model, and simulate the parts to see how they will fit on the actual finished product and in the environment.
Familiar and Reliable—Does the Job
What do you like best about the product?
To be honest it is what I have used and I am just used to it nothing I like more or less compared to other programs. I like the fact that is easier to use when you have a large assembly but not much more on that.
What do you dislike about the product?
It was a hell of a ride to learn how to use it and didn’t have many tutorials (my bad), interface is a bit old I believe but not much more than that! I don’t really mind it as it is
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The fact that develope products faster! You can combine models and it is easier to change the designs this way.how benefited me? Well saved me tons of time in metal designing
Intuitive CAD File Browsing and Quick Search That Speeds Up Design-to-Simulation Handoffs
What do you like best about the product?
The strongest aspect of Solid Edge Designcenter is its intuitive file browsing and quick search, which make it easy to find and reuse existing CAD files even in large project folders. The visual previews let engineers identify parts and assemblies at a glance without opening them in Solid Edge, which saves time during the design process. It also helps streamline workflows by providing fast access to CAD models that can then be used in downstream tools such as Simcenter STAR-CCM+, making the handoff from design to simulation more efficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
One limitation of Solid Edge Designcenter is that its data management capabilities can feel somewhat basic when compared with full PDM solutions. While it works well for browsing and locating CAD files within Solid Edge, it doesn’t offer more advanced functions like robust version control, collaboration workflows, or lifecycle management. On larger projects with many users and frequent revisions, this can make it harder to keep files organized and to track changes consistently. Performance can also depend heavily on how well the project folder structure is set up and maintained, so a less organized structure may make things feel slower or more difficult to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designcenter Solid Edge streamlines the product development process by bringing 3D CAD modeling, assembly design, and 2D drawing creation together in one environment. It lets engineers create and revise parts quickly using synchronous and parametric modeling, while also automatically generating manufacturing drawings and related documentation. As a result, design iterations take less time, and overall efficiency improves when working on complex mechanical components and assemblies.
Easy to Use with Strong 3D Design and Analysis

Fast and Tool-Rich for Part Design
What do you like best about the product?
I like using Designcenter Solid Edge to design some individual parts. I find it faster than doing small tasks myself. I enjoy the tools, specifically Sheet Metal and Part Modeling, which are really beneficial.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think the sheet metal flange trimming could be improved to be smarter. I'd like to see a reduction in the number of clicks required to use it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designcenter Solid Edge speeds up small tasks faster than I can do them myself, improving efficiency over our previous tool, SolidWorks.
Balanced CAD tool for everyday product development work
What do you like best about the product?
I like best about Designcenter Solid Edge is that it helps turn ideas into workable 3D models and technical drawings without making the process overly complicated. It is useful for product development, concept iteration, and preparing designs for manufacturing.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike most is that the overall experience can feel inconsistent depending on the task. Some functions are useful, but the interface and workflow are not always as intuitive as they could be, especially for occasional users or people who are still learning the system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designcenter Solid Edge helps solve the problem of turning design ideas into organized digital models that can be reviewed, improved, and prepared for production. It supports product development by making it easier to create parts, assemblies, and technical documentation in one workflow.
Efficient CAD Solution with Room for Improvement
What do you like best about the product?
I use Designcenter Solid Edge primarily for mechanical design and product development. I like how fast and flexible the modeling workflow is, especially with the synchronous technology that makes it really easy to edit geometry without rebuilding the whole feature tree, which saves a lot of time when designs change. The assembly management and drawing tools are also great, as it's straightforward to go from a 3D model to a detailed 2D production grade drawing. Updates to the model automatically reflect in the drawing, making design iterations and revisions much smoother.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing that could be improved is performance, it tends to slow down on large assemblies which is a problem when working on large projects with lots of components. Certain features are very intuitive but others such as interference detection is hidden away in menus and require several clicks to access. One final thing is better import compatibility from other CAD systems since imported geometry often needs extra cleanup before it's usable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Designcenter Solid Edge to quickly turn ideas into manufacturable designs. Its parametric modeling helps me solve design errors and revise dimensions easily. It also offers a fast and flexible workflow, simplifying model edits and making design iterations smoother with automatic updates in drawings.
Smooth Performance, Easy Setup
What do you like best about the product?
I like how smooth running the applications are with Designcenter Solid Edge, which is crucial for helping clients understand a project without it being slow and laggy. I also enjoy the zooming in and out tool, as it adds to the smooth experience. Additionally, I appreciate that it runs a lot smoother compared to SketchUp, which was our previous software. The initial setup of Designcenter Solid Edge was very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like the highlighting tool because when you click on a specific part of the project, it doesn't give you the needed information like measurements, depth, or size.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Designcenter Solid Edge to solve 3D problems, like getting a better understanding of a project. The smooth application and zooming tool help convey projects without issues. We switched from SketchUp due to its smoother performance.
Solid Edge Designcenter: Steep Learning Curve, But Promising
What do you like best about the product?
What i dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge is the slightly softer learning curve, coming from Catia many things were able to be "ported", it is more user-friendly and we were able to integrate it on our workflow. It is also cheaper.
What do you dislike about the product?
What i disliked about Designcenter Solid Edge is that it can slow down with extremely large components. Another thing I disliked is that the interface feels a bit cluttered, making it harder to quickly find certain tools. However, this went away with practice and as i got used to the program.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The program's licence is significantly cheaper than the programs we used to use and that is a very big advantage. being able to integrate it with our workflow and saving some money is an excellent thing.
