Solid and efficient CAD solution for mechanical design workflows

  • March 08, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the aspects I appreciate the most about Designcenter Solid Edge is its intuitive approach to mechanical design and drafting. The software provides a solid set of tools for creating precise 3D models and detailed technical drawings while keeping the workflow relatively straightforward compared to other CAD platforms.

I particularly value the synchronous technology, which allows quick modifications without having to rebuild the entire model history. This flexibility is extremely useful when working on engineering projects where design changes are frequent.

Another positive point is the integration between 3D modeling and 2D drafting, making it efficient to generate manufacturing drawings directly from the models. Overall, it is a reliable CAD solution for mechanical engineers and designers who need accurate and efficient design workflows.
What do you dislike about the product?
While Solid Edge is a capable CAD platform, there are still some areas where improvements could make the experience smoother. For example, the user interface can sometimes feel less modern compared to some competing CAD solutions.

In addition, performance may decrease when working with very large assemblies or complex models, which can slow down the workflow in demanding projects. Some features also require a bit of a learning curve for new users who are transitioning from other CAD systems.

Despite these aspects, once users become familiar with the software, it remains a powerful tool for mechanical design and engineering tasks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designcenter Solid Edge helps solve several common challenges in mechanical design workflows. One of the main benefits is the ability to move efficiently from concept design to detailed technical documentation within the same environment.

For engineering teams, the software improves productivity by allowing quick iterations of mechanical components and assemblies. The synchronous modeling capabilities make design modifications faster, which is especially valuable when responding to project changes or design reviews.

It also simplifies the creation of detailed manufacturing drawings and helps maintain consistency between 3D models and 2D documentation, which is essential for engineering accuracy and communication with fabrication teams

From Frustration to Power ToolWhat I appreciate

  • February 12, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I appreciate about SolidEdge is the balance it strikes between functionality and practicality. I work in high end mechanical design and metal fabrication environment, and the software provides exactly the level of capability we need without feel8ng unnecessarily bloated.
What do you dislike about the product?
SolidEdge can be frustrating sometimes, especially in the early stages of learning. The learning curve is real, and earlier versions were more prone to glitches and stsbility issues. Without a solid understanding of how the system is structured, certain workflows can feel unintuitive.
But many of these problems dissappear with experience and customization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has helped standardize and streamline engineering processes, particularly for modular and custom product lines that rely on repeat components and stock materials.

By embedding intelligence into our models , we have reduced repetitive engineering work and minimized the risk of errors. The software also allows us to output bills of materials that integrate directly into our ERP system, saving time and improving data accuracy.

Ultimately, SolidEdge has allowed us to move from manual, repetitive drafting toward a more automated and scalable workflow.

  • February 10, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Everything is organised and perfect. I find it easy to complete task without facing any difficulties. I always suggest this product to many of my friends.
What do you dislike about the product?
Designcenter in Solid Edge is often disliked because its interface feels dated and unintuitive.
It can be slow to load and navigate, especially when libraries are large or stored on a network.
Searching for parts is inefficient and heavily dependent on strict naming conventions.
Customizing and maintaining company-specific libraries requires unnecessary effort.
It does not integrate smoothly with modern collaborative or PLM-based workflows.
Many users feel the learning curve is too steep for the limited productivity benefits it provides.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designcenter in Solid Edge solves the problem of repeatedly recreating standard parts by providing a centralized library of reusable components.
It helps maintain design consistency by ensuring commonly used parts follow company or industry standards.
It saves time by allowing quick insertion of pre-defined components into assemblies.
It reduces errors by encouraging the use of validated and approved parts.
It improves workflow organization by keeping standard components separate from custom geometry.

Approachable, Powerful CAD with Fast Synchronous Design Changes

  • February 06, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What stands out most about Designcenter Solid Edge is how approachable it feels for a professional CAD tool. The interface is clean and well-structured, making it easier to understand compared to some more complex alternatives. The synchronous technology is a big plus, as it allows for quick design changes without breaking workflows. It also integrates well within the wider Siemens ecosystem, which gives confidence in terms of long-term support, reliability, and scalability. Overall, it feels like a powerful yet practical solution for design and engineering teams.
What do you dislike about the product?
One downside is that there can be a learning curve for users who are completely new to CAD or coming from simpler tools. Some advanced features aren’t immediately intuitive and require time or training to fully understand. Documentation is solid, but certain workflows would benefit from more beginner-focused examples. Additionally, like many enterprise-level tools, licensing and configuration can feel a bit complex at first, particularly for smaller teams or individual users who just want to get started quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designcenter Solid Edge helps streamline the product design and engineering process by reducing the time spent on rework and design changes. Its ability to handle revisions efficiently makes collaboration easier and cuts down on errors during development. This is especially useful when designs evolve frequently or need input from multiple stakeholders. As a result, teams can move from concept to production more smoothly, improve consistency across projects, and spend more time focusing on design quality rather than fixing avoidable issues.

Reuse what works

  • February 04, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
speedup real work flows and it saves a lot for time, by just doing drag and drop instead to go folder by folder and spend a lot of time to find the right sketch or drawing
What do you dislike about the product?
If your file naming or folder structure isn’t disciplined, finding the right part can turn into a scrolling marathon. No smart tagging, weak filtering
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its helps me re-inventing the same parts over and over, and faster design cycle, and it has very good consistency with a probability of few mistakes which save a lot of time
