What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge offers an impressive set of design and engineering tools that make complex 3D modeling and drafting much easier. I particularly value its synchronous technology, which allows me to edit models quickly without being tied to a strict history-based workflow. The software is also highly versatile, supporting assemblies, sheet metal, and simulation, which makes it a strong all-in-one solution for mechanical design. Its user interface is clean, modern, and well-structured, so even beginners can gradually become comfortable. Integration with other Siemens solutions and compatibility with multiple file formats further adds to its convenience in collaborative projects. Overall, it helps accelerate the design process while ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
What do you dislike about the product?
While Solid Edge is feature-rich, it can feel overwhelming at first due to the sheer number of tools and options. The learning curve is steeper compared to some lighter CAD applications, which may require additional training for new users. At times, performance can slow down when working with extremely large assemblies or highly detailed models, which affects productivity. Licensing costs may also be a concern for smaller organizations or individual users, as it may not be as budget-friendly as other alternatives. Customer support is generally good, but response times could be improved in certain regions. These drawbacks do not overshadow its strengths, but they are worth considering.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid Edge is helping us address the challenge of creating accurate, manufacturable designs in less time. The synchronous technology allows us to quickly update and modify models without going back through an entire feature tree, which saves a significant amount of design time. The built-in simulation and analysis tools reduce the need for third-party software, ensuring that we can validate designs early and avoid costly mistakes during production. File compatibility is another problem it solves, as it easily integrates with different CAD formats, making collaboration with suppliers and partners much smoother. For my work, this translates into faster design cycles, fewer errors, better team communication, and ultimately a more efficient path from concept to production.

Solid Edge: Very Good Value, Needs Better Marketing and Promotions

  • September 17, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate Solid Edge's value proposition as a high-performance CAD tool, offering a very good price-to-performance ratio. It was intuitive to use and very capable in most features. Synchronous and ordered modelling is valuable. I also valued its strong functionality for piping environments in the add-on packages, providing specific tools that aren't common in more basic CAD systems. I am impressed at the pirce-to-performance ratio considereed when a few of these add-on have been purchased.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find that Solid Edge isn't marketed very well, lacking sufficient visibility in the CAD community. This affects its market presence and makes it less appealing compared to competitors with better promotions. A lot of customers jump to NX which is eating into SolidEdge profits, for those that don't need NX features, there is just too much competition from other CAD packages. Additionally, I feel that while setting up wasn't difficult, the file-based nature of the on-premises version requiring physical downloads for materials and toolbox packages was cumbersome. I'm sure this will have been address in cloud-native SolidEdge X which is certianly the future of CAD and a step in the right direction. Personal opinion, the user interface, though intuitive, isn't as sleek and sexy as that of competitors like SolidWorks or Onshape. Moreover, the documentation around unique features like synchronous modeling wasn't explained well enough, making it hard to fully understand and utilize these capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I found Solid Edge easy to use for designing mechanical parts as a student, but I did not use it to its full potential during this time. I see no real bottleneck in its featureset when I considered the simulation and routing add-ons that are available. There is an add-on for integration between 3D environment and a 2D P&ID environment which is rarely featured in CAD packages, especially impressive and should be marketted better, provided the PLM backend is smooth and foolproof.

Very capable CAD software

  • September 17, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The software offers a very wide range of capabilities for high-quality modeling. The modeling is very precise and allows extensive possibilities for design iterations after the initial prototypes. It supports virtually all relevant file formats. During the use of the software, Siemens has proven to be very accommodating, both in terms of software options and also regarding technical support.
What do you dislike about the product?
Drafting (2D drawing) can sometimes be unnecessarily complicated, limiting the possibilities in ways that result in a significant amount of time being lost on details. In addition, there are bugs with the user interface, particularly regarding the orientation of the 3D view. The solution is usually to simply restart the software once these problems appear.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to develop complex designs more effectively, regardless of the type of manufacturing used, thanks to a much more efficient way of iterating designs provided by parametric CAD software. In addition, through the use of generative design, we fully leverage the possibilities of additive manufacturing, saving both time and material.
