Easy to use

  • May 18, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is very easy to learn and use and I like the ability to switch between synchronous and ordered modeling environments.
What do you dislike about the product?
Solid Edge can act up sometimes when integrated with our insight server. It can confuse itself and break links which can be tedious to fix.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid Edge allows us to quickly create engineering models and drawings to very accurate degrees. We are able to quickly update drawings when a new revision is necessary. We are a company that has to have a quick turn around on products so ease of use is extremely important.

2D version is powerful but takes some getting used to

  • November 28, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is limited to 2D and it is free; can't beat that price! It imports DWG files well most of the time, though not perfectly. The smart cursor (snaps) is really powerful and intuitive. When used along with manual entry of dimensions, it can be efficient and powerful. It uses tabbed views (for model space and drawings), similar to most other CAD programs on the market today. Interface can be customized. It runs smoothly. It was developed by a large company, which means it should be around for a while.
What do you dislike about the product?
It functions differently than other CAD programs I've used, so it takes a while to learn. Drawing templates that come with the program are limited, but it is easy create your own. Occasionally it has trouble importing DWG files that have 3D elements, but not any more than other CAD programs I've used.
It doesn't use vector fonts, opting for the use of TrueType fonts within Windows. This doesn't bother me, but some old-school cad drafters may find it frustrating.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Inexpensive CAD program for opening and working with DWG files. It has worked well on different Windows computers, including laptops.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider using this to import and work with other file formats. It will give you an opportunity to get acclimated to the interface and how it functions. Then you can appreciate the power of this program and possibly find it useful for creating 2D (or 3D if you want to step up to the full version).

What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge is very esay to use ones you know how. It is very intuitive and very user friendly. I like that you can customize the apperence in order to use improve the way you use the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the current version I am using it laggs sometime, I do not know if it is my computer or if it is the software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main use I have for this program is to model different designs I made for the indusry of furniture and toys..
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I remember when I first use this program, I alredy knew AutoCad and it was not too different for what I alredy knew. Do not hesitate in changing to Solid Edge you wont regret it.

CAD Instructor switch Solidworks for Solid Edge

  • June 13, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Having worked with several different packages, I find Solid Edge to be one of the easiest to use. It is a powerful program that companies need to take a hard look at. ST is awesome to work with, what would normally require me to drill to the part level at some point, I can do at any level with little to now worry about annoying external references and sketch failures. I have 4 certifications with Solidworks and while I have taken a lot of joy in using it, I find SE to more impressive.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am a K-12 CAD instructor who has switched from Solidworks to SE. how ever the market presence is much smaller. Sales needs to take a much more aggressive approach in the US.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Users will get the direct modeling and feature-based modeling experience. Students are able to pick up modeling easier.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When reviewing software for your business, Solid Edge should be among the list of competitors for your business. Big or small products, the ROI will be substantial and user experience will be good. Customer service has always been great for me.

The best parasolid software !

  • April 24, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I appreciated the most about SolidEdge is the user interface which makes it really easy to learn.
Way better than Solidworks I think!
Lots of nice features, and my experience showed that it's easier to put a model into production thanks to SolidEdge than to Solidworks (Sorry Dassault systems ;) )
What do you dislike about the product?
Well the only thing I could dislike with solidedge is its Surface design mode which is not really intuitive yet and could be improved a lot, even if it's not the main feature and reason why we use SolidEdge.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Thanks to SolidEdge I was able to put a 3D model from the first phase to the production model.
SolidEdge was able to tell me how I could improve my model to make it feasable for the molding.
I highly recommand this software if you want to do precise modelling and production/feasible models.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get the tutorials from Siemens :)

Solid edge has made modeling easy

  • April 15, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the tools and how easy it is to use. It has a decent user interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dont like the whole idea of assembling the models as layering would have been an easier option. Assembly takes huge amount of time. renderings should have better material options and colour options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am experimenting and exploring different tools to improve my set of skills.

Industrial designer, have used Solid Edge since birth

  • April 15, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is accurate, it communicates well with me and the customer, the rendering is quick. I have used Solid Edge almost since the birth of the program.
What do you dislike about the product?
Surfacing tools, it is not intuitive, it is difficult to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am an industrial designer. My customers needs to see every detail of the product before starting production. this we do in the 3D files and on the renderings. I send the 3D files directly to the constructor/producer and Solid Edge is a great tool for both communicating and get a good process and for the product development itself.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take courses in the beginning.

User friendly interface

  • April 15, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Once you know the interface is very easy to use and there is several ways to do the same object depending on what are your own personal methods or preferences
Also I like the tool of the "explotion" mode to show the parts of an assembly, that has been very useful to me.
What do you dislike about the product?
The quality of the renders, it's very basic, it's ok for internar purposes but not for a final presentation
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have only used it for my studies until now but even at courses where no specific software was designated I decided to use Solid Edge over other modeling softwares
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are plenty of tutorials available, so if something doesn't seem clear, I always take a look first on the website of SolidEdge and if that still doesn't answer my problem I have always found answers to similar problems.

Solid Edge ST2 - College and Early Career

  • April 14, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Solid is a very good solid modeling program. It is easy to understand and the interface is clean and functional.
What do you dislike about the product?
ST2 was somewhat difficult to use in a Industrial Design surfacing environment. I'm not sure what they are offering now.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
At that time, I was doing ID/Mechanical design work. I was able to easily create parts and advanced assemblies using solid edge.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This program is great it you do not need to do advanced surfacing techniques.

Solid Edge ST8 - It gives me the edge on the competition

  • April 14, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is wonderfully intuitive and has so much to offer in designing and sculpting. To be honest it has far more features than I could ever need. I have been using Solid Edge since its old version 3, 25 versions ago, and I couldn't do without it. Also the vendors I bought it from - Majenta PLM, are very helpful and respond very quickly to any queries I may have. It also meshes seamlessly with Key Shot rendering software.
What do you dislike about the product?
My only dislikes are that a lot of the development between upgrades is to suit engineers, which I am not. It is also quite costly to keep the license up to date, however it is a tool I need for my trade.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am a freelance design consultant working mainly in the luxury goods market, designing anything from writing instruments, bags, hardware, watches , clocks, furniture and retail design. Solid Edge allows me to work very quickly and precisely. It also allows me to interact very effectively with manufacturers and tool makers alike.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The vast bulk of the design world, who can afford it appear to have gone over to Solid Works, however I believe that Solid Edge has, as it were, the edge on Solid Works. I find it easier to work with and is more intuitive.
