Getting worse instead of better

  • April 10, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simple tools for fast creation of models. Simple tools for creating model assemblies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since Siemens bought the software they have been removing functionality gradually making it more difficult to use. Examples: 1. When drafting and in Draw in View mode you can no longer modify your sketch by placing dimensions on the sketch and changing the dimension. 2. When modifying a part inside of an assembly the Update command no longer updates the relationships in the assembly. 3. Can no longer change an 'inches' dimension by adding or subtracting mm's. (units must be in inches). 4. Can no longer save files in ASCII format. I imagine the functionality was taken away so that they can get more people to buy upgrades. Greedy or just incompetent?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mechanical design problems. Creates needed drawings for manufacture.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Good if you want to pay max price for the highest function module. Check out other software first if max functionality is not needed.

  • March 05, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Solid Edge makes creating and editing 3D product designs faster and easier through our unique synchronous technology—combining the speed and simplicity of direct modeling with the flexibility and control of parametric design
What do you dislike about the product?
nothing much to say, it should catch up NX for complex sheet metal drawings and improve performance
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
complete sheet metal design system with support for the entire design-through-fabrication process

Solid Edge Review

  • December 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The part modeling is easy to use, very easy to switch to from solidworks. Making modifications to existing parts is simple.
What do you dislike about the product?
Creating assemblies with relationships can be tricky and are very easy to break the relationships if you aren't careful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm able to create complete models of our final product and see any potential fit up or interference issues.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Very good software for creating parts and assemblies. Easy to switch to from solidworks.

Solid Edge the Future of mechanical design

  • October 10, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This tool has technology no other MCAD tools possesses. Being able to design parametrically and with direct modeling makes designing from conception to final release extremely easy and fast.
What do you dislike about the product?
Transitioning from history based design to synchronous can take a little time. But once learned you'll never go back.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing complex shapes in true 3D space is a lot fast. Making edits well into the design is simple. I don't have to worry about what else is being effected.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want to design faster with less headache this is the tool to use.

Easy to use

  • May 18, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is very easy to learn and use and I like the ability to switch between synchronous and ordered modeling environments.
What do you dislike about the product?
Solid Edge can act up sometimes when integrated with our insight server. It can confuse itself and break links which can be tedious to fix.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solid Edge allows us to quickly create engineering models and drawings to very accurate degrees. We are able to quickly update drawings when a new revision is necessary. We are a company that has to have a quick turn around on products so ease of use is extremely important.

2D version is powerful but takes some getting used to

  • November 28, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is limited to 2D and it is free; can't beat that price! It imports DWG files well most of the time, though not perfectly. The smart cursor (snaps) is really powerful and intuitive. When used along with manual entry of dimensions, it can be efficient and powerful. It uses tabbed views (for model space and drawings), similar to most other CAD programs on the market today. Interface can be customized. It runs smoothly. It was developed by a large company, which means it should be around for a while.
What do you dislike about the product?
It functions differently than other CAD programs I've used, so it takes a while to learn. Drawing templates that come with the program are limited, but it is easy create your own. Occasionally it has trouble importing DWG files that have 3D elements, but not any more than other CAD programs I've used.
It doesn't use vector fonts, opting for the use of TrueType fonts within Windows. This doesn't bother me, but some old-school cad drafters may find it frustrating.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Inexpensive CAD program for opening and working with DWG files. It has worked well on different Windows computers, including laptops.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider using this to import and work with other file formats. It will give you an opportunity to get acclimated to the interface and how it functions. Then you can appreciate the power of this program and possibly find it useful for creating 2D (or 3D if you want to step up to the full version).

What do you dislike about the product?
In the current version I am using it laggs sometime, I do not know if it is my computer or if it is the software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main use I have for this program is to model different designs I made for the indusry of furniture and toys..
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I remember when I first use this program, I alredy knew AutoCad and it was not too different for what I alredy knew. Do not hesitate in changing to Solid Edge you wont regret it.

CAD Instructor switch Solidworks for Solid Edge

  • June 13, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Having worked with several different packages, I find Solid Edge to be one of the easiest to use. It is a powerful program that companies need to take a hard look at. ST is awesome to work with, what would normally require me to drill to the part level at some point, I can do at any level with little to now worry about annoying external references and sketch failures. I have 4 certifications with Solidworks and while I have taken a lot of joy in using it, I find SE to more impressive.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am a K-12 CAD instructor who has switched from Solidworks to SE. how ever the market presence is much smaller. Sales needs to take a much more aggressive approach in the US.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Users will get the direct modeling and feature-based modeling experience. Students are able to pick up modeling easier.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When reviewing software for your business, Solid Edge should be among the list of competitors for your business. Big or small products, the ROI will be substantial and user experience will be good. Customer service has always been great for me.
