PostHog: All-in-One Analytics Without the Headache

  • October 22, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really like several things about PostHog. First, their free plan is perfect for early-stage growth because it gives you powerful tools without high costs. What makes them special is their focus on privacy and security, which is very important for teams working with user data that needs to stay safe.

They also let you self-host the software, which is great if you care a lot about privacy or want more control.
I tried setting it up with Coolify, and it worked really well. Plus, many cloud services now support hosting PostHog natively, making it even simpler to get started.

What stands out is how PostHog combines different tools into one platform—like web analytics, product insights, and session replay.
The dashboard is also fully customizable, so you can set it up to show exactly the information your team needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Setting up PostHog on your own servers can be tricky, especially if you're not used to managing your own hosting. That's why I suggest looking into cloud providers—they often let you install PostHog with just a few clicks through their service marketplaces, which makes the setup much easier.

That said, I think some important features should come included in the basic plan.
For example, webhooks are really important for how I use PostHog, especially when moving data and connecting it with other tools. I use them a lot and hope they're easier to access by default.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PostHog has been really helpful in solving several problems during our product development. It lets you watch how users get started and track their whole experience, which is super useful for making better product choices. You can see website traffic as it happens and understand how people use your site.

One great feature is feature flags, which let you turn features on or off without changing your code — that’s perfect for testing and slowly rolling out new things.

I think PostHog is one of the best analytics tools out there.
A special and often overlooked feature is their toolbar for testing, which makes it easier to find and fix issues while working on the product. It’s surprising that tools like Google Analytics don’t have something similar, which makes PostHog a great pick for teams that want powerful, easy-to-use analytics.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
PostHog strikes an amazing balance between being powerful for developers and having an user friendly interface.

It was quick about to integrate the service with all the applications, compared to other analytics services such as hotjar, google analytics and etc. It is powerful, while giving all the features needed to deeply understand user behavior.
What do you dislike about the product?
There’s nothing I dislike at the moment about posthog
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It combines multiple analytics tools I was using into one place. It helps me track user behavior and identify which features or changes are working, and which are not

A Comprehensive Analytics Tool for Product Teams

  • October 21, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The first thing is that it's easy to implement with my JavaScript application. The best features are the session replay and dashboard view. We can customize our dashboard and save it as well. Another great feature is session replay—when a client reports an issue, we can easily review the session, respond, and fix the problem. We can also customize it using APIs. This morning, I raised a ticket, and by the afternoon, they answered my questions and even provided customization support.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main disadvantage is that they frequently release updates. Sometimes these updates are for bug fixes, which means we have to implement the new updates regularly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have maininly use it for two thing Dashboard and session reply. Dashboard is for reporting and session reply is for client's issue while testing like how this bug is raised and it's we have to fix. and it's too easy with session replyfunctionality.

I can honestly say using posthog for both for mobile and web apps has been a wonderful experience!

  • October 21, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The fact that it's open source and the features it gives you out of the box without any paywall is superb. My top 3 features are product analytics, session replay and feature flags.

Integrating posthog into Nextjs and React Native via their SDKs is very very straightforward
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI for the analytics dashboard. Wish it was a bit more cleaner / minimalistic. I think the colour scheme could be a lot simpler. Esapecially for the charts which have a mix of red, blue, orange which is an odd blend in my eyes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking key acativity of users in my apps. Being to create debug events to ensure the app is working correctly for our users. This has been espeically useful during early stages of development.
In addition session replay for web apps has been a real time saver for debugging strange UI flows

Fully packaged suite of behavioural analytics tool

  • October 21, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the fact that it contains everything I need to conduct good analysis and that everything works very well together.
What do you dislike about the product?
One downside may be that it's heatmap functionality is not as good, or as thorough, as some alternatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can see how users are using our internal application and what parts they use most, what parts they use least, what process they follow and how we can improve our front-end experience and make internal processes more effective.

Great open source analytics tool with self-hosted option

  • October 18, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We wanted heatmaps and session recordings, bu we also needed to retain custody over our data, PostHog checked all the boxes. They make self-hosting easy. Integrating with our site was easy too.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some features that are not available on the self-hosted version. For example if you want to monitoring multiple domains on one dashboard, then you'll need to pay.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed to see user behavior on a dashboard through sessions replay and heatmaps. We also needed to have custody over our data.

Tonnes of features executed excellently!

  • October 17, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I mostly use Posthog for Feature Flag implementation and A/B testing, which it does very well.
Compared to other offering the technical implementation was easy (in NextJS / Python), and the reporting features are great too!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes documentation topics can be duplicated with some articles being more up-to-date than others, which can lead to some confusion when implementing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Implementing A/B testing and feature flagging
