Quick Setup with Some Support Required

  • December 07, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Initializing the Post Hog script and making dashboard with insights was very easy to set up out-of-the-box.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is some polish required to resolve a number of warnings in the console from the out-of-the-box initialization. I waited over 2 weeks for a response and finally received one but in that time frame I did not know if I would receive support. I couldn't find anything online in the documentation or issues that helped me resolve the noisy console output.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are working data-driven analytics into our product and software design decisions.

OSS analytics FTW

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's OSS, very intuitive too. We integrated it in few lines, and right after deploying it worked.
It's become our dashboard for everything.
What do you dislike about the product?
the sql mapping is not really intuitive, it does not autocomplete the data i know it's there
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can track usage without being creepy, allowing anonymous users too.

Incredibly easy to setup product analytics suite

What do you like best about the product?
The onboarding experience was super smooth. It stepped me through how to integrate posthog into my app and confirmed everything was working which gave me confidence to try more features.
What do you dislike about the product?
The navigation is quite jam packed. I'd prefer if it was stripped down to only the features I'm actually using.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm able to understand how users use my app, where they spend time and what percent complete specific journeys.

Posthog has made everything easy

  • December 03, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Autocapture has been such a game changer for our company. With other tracking products, we'd have to work out what we wanted to track upfront, and whenever that changed. We'd have to wait weeks for data to catch up once we add a new tracking event.

Autocapture with retroactive event defining has been such a big improvement for us.
What do you dislike about the product?
Wish that session replays were available on Android too.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We found a lot of other analytic platforms really clunky and cumbersome. Posthog just makes everything easy and helps us surface the insights we need, without hassle.

A lot of our Posthog usage is understanding how people find our site, and then monitoring their progress through our signup -> onboarding -> conversion funnel. Being able to quickly visualise these funnels has really helped us work out what parts need optimising and different approaches.

Posthog: The Analytics Behemoth

  • November 30, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love how easy it is to use it and to integrate with the code, also it suports a lot of frameworks. I was surprise by how useful insights and the dashboards are. Feature flags is also another feature that I use a lot and that allows me to ship to production fast
What do you dislike about the product?
I think the pricing for events is a bit expensive, also the free tier could have a bit more events, I am manly comparing to Mixpanel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps to ship faster to production, and with more confidence. We can fix most issues quickers and deactivate what's not working using feature flags. We also can understand the pain points of our applicatio.

Easy AF - A bit pricey

  • November 27, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Disclaimer: I've only utilized PostHog as POC and we ultimately decided to go with another company due to pricing.

Pros:
- Easy to implement (docs are well written and straightforward)
- Works with legacy platforms/projects (huzzah!)
- Just goes once you've done minimal setup. It's nice really.

I haven't tried all features. My company was focused on feature flags and A/B testing as a starter (we use another company for replays and other things). The features I tried were simple to add to the project and easy to see results from.

All in all - they are exactly as they claim - simple to setup and get going, and get results.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cons:
- Pricing structure is complicated (which it's hard not to be with the model they have, but it makes it complicated for us to estimate)
- The fact that all site hits count against the quota makes it hard to swallow things like page views and page leaves that just rack up cost - especially when there are so many other (free) options for these things. I'd rather cut out page views and page leaves and leave them else where . . . but then you're piecemealing for pricing and that's never a good idea.

And I am concerned about the longevity of the company. It doesn't seem like they're focusing on customers currently - more their own internal team (which is a great period of growth for any company, so kudos). I feel like they've mostly "set" their feature set and are working on internal growth at this point.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Needing me to write your executive summary? :D

PostHog offers a solution for us to create and implement feature flags for A/B testing quickly and easy. I was running a test in less than an hour.

Plenty of features and a generous few tier

  • November 21, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
PostHog brings a whole toolbox of things one needs when running an early stage business - all with a generous free tier so one can really experience the product before switching to a paid plan. That they're OSS also gives me the peace of mind that i can self host if things go bad. Their SDK is easy to add, and they have a comprehensive API should you want to automate things further.
What do you dislike about the product?
None so far really. I suppose competitors like Amplitude have more features, but that hasn't been an issue for me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Easy to setup, privacy friendly user metrics, along with a host of other tools (feature flags etc)

I've used PostHog for a bit and I can see myself using it for every future project when I can

  • November 21, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really like that PostHog is developer friendly. Everything about it makes me love using it. It's very very easy to integrate in my projects and the documentations are top notch.
What do you dislike about the product?
Hmm, I think there's a lot of features that I haven't had the time to explore them fully.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We really wanted a way to track different aspects about our users including if they accomplish various tasks or events.

PostHog is a great solution for on-prem deployment.

  • November 20, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like PostHog best due to its powerful open-source analytics platform that provides in-depth insights and data on user behavior. The user-friendly interface, event tracking, and funnel analysis capabilities make it easy to identify my website's performance. I choose posthog because it is the most mature opensource user analysis product after a investigation on about 5 different candidates.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am using the self hosted version of posthog. It has some limit like you can only create one project and can not use group analysis. but since its free, I am OK with these limitations.
BTW, while using it, I encounter a bug that I can not delete my project on the panel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PostHog is solving several problems related to product analytics and user behavior tracking on websites include:

1. Privacy: PostHog is an open-source and self-hosted solution, which helps protect user data. User data are only stored in my own database, and I can delete them anytime I want.

2. Tracking website performance from basic pv/uv to user actions: PostHog provides a comprehensive set of features for tracking user behavior on websites, including page views, clicks, form submissions.

3. Easy to integrate with other system. It provide a simple API for data ingestion and data export. I can export the insights to other system for further analysis and visualization.
