Vimeo is the best and secure platform with many minor issues

  • March 18, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1. Hide from Vimeo; secure embedding options.
2. Video trimmer and text based trimmer
3. Folder options to keep videos organised and segregated.
What do you dislike about the product?
1. Videos are not loading quickly on the viewer’s side (tested on MacBook Air M3, 16GB, with a 100Mbps broadband connection). Especially when a viewer tries to fast-forward the video or watch at 2X speed, the video does not load quickly.

2. Payment Gateways: While making a payment, it is not asking for OTP authentication. In India, most banks/cards do not work without OTP. Additionally, there are transaction limits for international payments due to security reasons. PayPal also does not allow wallet recharges; it redirects us to cards/banks instead. We were unable to complete a payment of around $920 (tried with 5-6 different cards).

3. Why are there different plans for old customers (which are slightly more expensive) and different plans for new accounts (which are slightly less expensive)? We had to migrate to a new account to access the new plans.

4. Recently, customer support has been slow and does not respond for several days.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can securely embed videos on our website, ensuring they can be played only on our platform. This helps educators like me protect our content and sell courses through our websites and LMS. Additionally, we can embed livestreams securely.

Features like video trimmers and text-based trimmers are also beneficial. Video transcripts have been particularly useful for creating lecture notes.

Organising and segregating videos into folders has been extremely helpful for me. It allows me to categorize videos by subjects and topics and easily edit or replace them whenever needed.

Sleek and Seamless

What do you like best about the product?
The most recent update fixed a lot of the issues I previously had with Vimeo. The sign in process is smooth, the interface is visually appealing, the settings, options, and features provide a wide range of uses whether it is a simple video review platform, or a home for an embedded video on a website or mass email. The simplicity of it on the surface encourages new users to try the platform, and the robust settings and features keep people around.
What do you dislike about the product?
I upload to vimeo almost daily for work and one thing that is frustrating is the time that it takes to optimize the video before the link works to view the video. I understand that compressing and storing the video on Vimeo properly is important, so I don't mind that it takes extra time to optimize the video, I just look forward to the day when that can happen a little faster than it currently does.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Library, archive, and host for our employees to view and share our videos.

Does everything we want and more.

What do you like best about the product?
Scalability - from hosting videos on private links all the way up to running full live streams without needing anything other than a browser!
What do you dislike about the product?
Awful, awful pricing structure. Need a little extra space, sign up for a new subscription with lots of other stuff you'd never use. Happy with subscription but want more caption hours, tough luck - there's no way to add that without you signing up for a completely different package.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a streaming and on-demand hosting company, we need a failsafe video host. We looked into our own server but the cost was high and we'd need to code a lot of it ourselves. Vimeo fills that gap really well.
Primariliy we host private videos that are locked to our domains (easy to set up, thank you Vimeo!) that we then link across to our platform. Really easy to do in vimeo, no watermarks (unless we want them) and without people being able to access the back-end host to download them (that I've found - and believe me I have tried!)
We also use their live streams, all as sending a RTMP stream to Vimeo to transcode and host. Never had an issue with Vimeo ever. Player is easy to brand, captions can be enabled (but don't ask if you can buy more caption hours!) and the whole lot can be recorded onto your Vimeo too (or not, it's an option) so you have a back up in the cloud almost immediately.

Uploading to Vimeo is a bit of a faff if you use their uploader (one file at a time, have to keep the web page open and if you get updates, you start all over again) BUT Vimeo will let you integrate with OneDrive/Google Drive etc. so you can leave files uploading to your hosting service before running the Vimeo web apps to transfer the files within SECONDS! - you also get a handy 2nd back up on your cloud host too. Nice one Vimeo :)

Their on-line tools are basic, but do what you need. If you're chopping the start and end off a recorded stream/uploaded video that's really easy to do. There are other options, but if we're heading down that line we're going to do it properly via Premiere!

It's a shame that some options don't follow through to all levels of subscription - when we had a basic low GB subscription we could share folders with our clients that they could download. Now we're on a Pro account, that's impossible (!?). But as mentioned earlier, as we have a back up of everything on the Googs Drive, that's how we share nowadays.

All in all, Vimeo is the best video host/CMS that I've found for small businesses.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it has a teleprompter and the ease of augmenting content. All of my support has been answered in a timely manner with acceptable solutions. We have had no issues implementing and integrating it into the K12 environment. We are growing in active users and content creation.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish that we could get a PII agreemement with them to enable us to upload student made content.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This is providing our users with an intuitive product that creates high quality content with ease.

Vimeo - GREAT Integrations & UI

  • January 10, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We've used Vimeo for a number of years now and still love it, even with a pretty hefty stack of other digital tools and platforms. We are a larger business and use it for hosting our videos. Our video and creative teams find it super easy to navigate, upload, download, etc. We were also pleased that it integrates with MediaValet now, our DAM, which is an added bonus. Stakeholders and team members are both happy and we will continue to use it!
What do you dislike about the product?
Currently, I don't have any constructive feedback to pass along.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Making it easy for our team to share videos across channels, customers and platforms.

The best video hosting software I have used

  • December 20, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
vimeo is probably the best video hosting software I have used so far. We tried to shift for other video hosting platforms to save cost but couldn't find any of them as worth as vimeo. Its truly great. Its easy to use, very easy to navigate, UI is simple and great. the pricing plans are also not that expensive. You can upload the videos easily and control everything. We use it almost daily for our office use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The free plan is too restricted. Didn't like that part.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem vimeo is solving for us is video hosting and using it easily on any other platform. We have a course platform where we can use our vimeo videos easily by using its link, on our landing pages, we have used vimeo's video link instead of uploading it on the platform, which increased the website speed. It has a lot of positive features we love.

Protection, quality and customer support: three reasons why I chose Vimeo

  • November 13, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Vimeo is very easy to use, uploading audiovisual content is fast, the interface is user-friendly and the customer service is exceptional. What I highlight the most is the ability to customize access to content, either for videos to be viewed only in viewing mode or blocking unauthorized downloads.
What do you dislike about the product?
No complaints, it meets my expectations and provides easy usability without technical obstacles. Vimeo responds well in terms of loading, playback and content organization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
First of all, its protection against unauthorized access is excellent for maintaining the confidentiality of my materials and another great point is the HD quality of the content, which allows my shared visual materials to look sharp and well presented.

Vimeo review: high quality without ads

  • November 07, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Vimeo not only allows me to organize my resources efficiently, but it also makes it easy to share specific videos privately and securely; I love that I can password protect my videos and share them only with the group of people I choose; plus, the fact that Vimeo doesn't show ads is a big plus!
What do you dislike about the product?
When I'm away from home or on campus, I've tried uploading videos from my cellphone, but the experience has been a bit of a hassle
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Vimeo has transformed the way I manage and organize my content, saving me time by having a well-structured and easy-to-navigate library. Because of all the advantages I have mentioned, I have more than once recommended Vimeo to friends and colleagues at my university.

Great and reliable platform for videos

  • August 09, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, lots of storage and bandwidth, great customer service on the enterprise plan

Privacy controls to embedded videos or to make them public, private or only with password

Easy to implement and integrate on web designing and development projects through the API
What do you dislike about the product?
Some features that are a given on other platforms, here are paid features, for example, translated subtitles to different languages, which are free and automatic on Youtube, here you need the enterprise + AI package that costs $20,000USD a year (yes, it comes with other features like dubbing, but if you only care about subtitles, thats the fee)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
make videos private and only embeddable on our website
