Would like more integrations with other platforms
We have an older plan to keep a rate that is affordable for our small organization, but wish we could access some of the more advanced features on the higher fee plans.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to house all application materials – documents, external links, narrative responses – in one window. We use Submittable for application review processes for festivals, grants, and residencies. The platform supports all of the different types of programs well. As a small staff, using Submittable allows us to keep these programs and the communication with applicants streamlined and organized.

What do you like best about the product?
Submittable has proven to be an exceptionally user-friendly platform for both our artists and grant applicants, who consistently report that the submission process is clear, intuitive, and stress-free. Our independent review committees appreciate having streamlined access to their assigned applications and find the scoring interface especially helpful, since they can view the full application and rubric side-by-side. The platform makes it significantly easier and faster for our team to create new projects, track submissions, and manage workflows. Customer service is excellent -- responsive, supportive, and solutions-oriented. Submittable also provides improved data access and reporting tools that help us evaluate impact and make stronger decisions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Reporting tools, although much better than before, can still feel limited when attempting highly detailed or multi-layered data pulls. Occasionally, updates introduce small changes that require adjustment or retraining for staff. Additionally, affordability can be a challenge for small nonprofits like ours; although the platform is highly effective, the cost can feel difficult to sustain within a modest operating budget.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Submittable streamlines every stage of our grantmaking and artist application process, solving challenges we previously faced with workflow management, reviewer coordination, and applicant experience. It provides a clear, user-friendly submission portal that reduces confusion for applicants and minimizes staff time spent troubleshooting. Our independent review committees benefit from being able to score applications and view rubrics side-by-side, which increases accuracy and consistency. Internally, Submittable centralizes our data, making reporting and analysis significantly easier and faster. Overall, it saves us time, improves clarity, and enhances the experience for applicants, reviewers, and staff alike.

Incredibly User-Friendly and All-in-One Solution for Non-Profits

What do you like best about the product?
I used Submittable for a few years at my last organization, and have since got my new employer to start using it. I find it incredibly user friendly (for both admin and front end users) and value the workflow and reporting I can track all in one place! I can quickly and easily put projects together, assign jurors, and analyze results. I really enjoy that everything is kept together for each submission - I do not have to hunt down forms or notes or images; it is a one stop shop from start to finish. I have used this platform for exhibition submissions, grant applications, retail events, and so much more for our non-profit arts organization. The platform is intuitive, even for those who do not consider themselves computer-savvy. Customer support is always great too, they have a wonderful team on staff.
What do you dislike about the product?
I struggle to identify downsides. There are a few features I look forward to in the future such as token integration within some form questions, but it really covers my needs well as is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using the software to collect and juror submissions for exhibitions, class proposals, grants, and scholarships. The software also has wonderfully easy to use and customizable reporting features that help streamline the review process.

Excellent Customer Service, Easy to Setup and Use

What do you like best about the product?
Submittable has excellent customer service. I've experienced it as an administrator, working with a dedicated Submittable staff member to set up our organization's program (an application for a fellowship) and throughout administration of the program. I always received quick, thorough responses via their chat or email customer service. Often, I could find the answers to my questions in their online library of "how-to" articles. This allowed me to use Submittable effectively and confidently.
Their customer service extended to applicants/fellows, meaning that I did not need to answer their questions but, rather, they could contact Submittable and receive a quick, accurate response.
I used Submittable daily to create an application and administer the program, throughout the application selection rounds and with the chosen applicants, who became members of the program.
What do you dislike about the product?
Submittable reports export only to .csv or Excel files well. They do not export well to PDF in that you cannot modify what information is/is not exported to the PDF. Since applications in Submittable can include personally identifying information or details beyond what you need in the PDF, not being able to modify what is pulled from the platform into the PDF is an issue. Also, the PDF has the Submittable logo at the top, not your organization's, so it cannot be used externally. The ease of integrating Submittable with Adobe Acrobat can therefore be improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Submittable made contacting applicants and successful applicants (who became fellows) very easy. It eliminates the need for mailing or marketing lists/bulk emails from Outlook. When I needed to collect additional information from applicants and/or successful applicants (fellows), I was able to create the right type of form in Submittable and email it to an individual user or in bulk to a list of users of my choosing. This also demonstrates how easy it is to create and format emails in Submittable's messaging system. Submittable even allows you to create email templates. I used these for monthly updates to applicants and for periodic update emails to bulk groups of users (e.g., end of application and not selected).

While the platform is very functional, some advanced customization options require extra effort or support from the Submittable team. Reporting features could be more flexible, and the pricing can become steep for larger programs or growing teams.

What do you like best about the product?
Submittable keeps track of the submissions to Writer Advice's Contests. Their people have been very helpful when I couldn't get things to work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've had some trouble setting up new contests without help, since technology isn't my strength, but I've gotten some good help. I miss the newsletter that listed our contests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not sure this applies. FYI, I still use it for submissions to our writing contests, but that wasn't an option.

What do you like best about the product?
The process was relatively simple and the agent was friendly that assisted me.
What do you dislike about the product?
When trying to submit my application the screen was not sized properly on your end, making it where the application butten was hidden.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I requested assistance due to a natural disaster in my area.
