Smooth and uncomplicated workflow; proactive and responsive people

  • September 15, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Their workflow is smooth and uncomplicated, and their people are proactive and responsive. I like that we can send our queries and see those of other linguists' as well as clients' answers for them.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes during work I get confused about repetitions, fuzzies, and 100% match. Also, I get confused when I save the page I'm working on and the segments are refreshed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The workflow is uncomplicated. It also improves my productivity.

Nice people and good platform

What do you like best about the product?
The Smartling team are very nice and helpful. Rates are fine. There's plenty of work, I'm logged in every day, usually twice. Many jobs are assigned directly, so no need to be the first to claim jobs. The CAT tool itself is easy to learn.
What do you dislike about the product?
The CAT tool can be a bit tricky and confusing when working with longer, unsegmented strings. 100% matches only seem to auto save if you change something in the string.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It gives an easy overview of changes in partial matches from TM. It's easy to search the TM.

The UI gives clear layout, and accessing string/text content is fairly straightforward.
What do you dislike about the product?
Auto translations often require a lot of manual post-editing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The built-in QA checks which flag errors during translation saves time.

It's great to be able to focus solely on the translation work.

What do you like best about the product?
As a freelance translator, constantly exchanging emails with agency project managers to complete a single job is always exhausting. Attaching and sending the completed translation files one by one is especially so. While many agencies have recently systematized and automated this entire process, I find Smartling to be the most optimized for translators. For web-based CAT tools, it not only handles term bases and translation memory searches but also provides real-time previews of webpage files, Word documents, and PowerPoint files for context verification. It also excels with auxiliary features like highlighting related sentences, making it highly satisfying to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
While it doesn't happen often, occasionally when all translators within a team decline a specific task in the system and the project manager fails to notice in time, work tends to pile up on a small number of translators. If even those few translators decline the work, the tasks do move to the “Available to Accept” menu item so any translator can freely claim them. However, this process feels somewhat clunky.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling is helping me quickly and efficiently handle translation work for other clients. Thanks to Smartling's CAT tool, I'm managing translation projects more effectively than usual.

OK but I can't help feeling there's too much focus on AI and profit rather than quality translation

What do you like best about the product?
Fair, quick pay and the software is mostly intuitive
What do you dislike about the product?
They seem very keen to squeeze translators to do quick post-editing of AI, which cannot possibly lead to a good end-product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Question not relevant to me as a translator - Smartling helps me pay my bills

All-round efficient platform for translators

  • September 15, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have been working as their translator for quite some time. The platform is clean, easy to use, and packed with helpful features such as automatic glossary checking and a solid AI engine, while still remaining uncluttered. Payments are automatic and seamless—probably the best payment system in the industry.
What do you dislike about the product?
The language I translate into, Thai, is not fully supported by the platform, as it erroneously flags a large number of Thai sentences as containing spelling errors. This is merely an inconvenience since I can easily ignore these alerts. Otherwise, there are no real downsides to working with Smartling.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling streamlines the entire translation workflow by providing an integrated platform with automated quality checks, glossary enforcement, and AI support. This reduces manual review time and helps maintain consistency across projects. The automated payment system also eliminates administrative work, ensuring I can focus entirely on translation without worrying about invoicing or follow-ups.

Smartling is easy to use and more efficient than Trados

What do you like best about the product?
Lots of useful filters and translation offered by AI is helpful sometimes
What do you dislike about the product?
It works slowly with big files. I would ask managers to break big files to speed up the translation process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling offeres a prompt reply from the client in case I need to clarify the source text.
