Easier to Use Compared to Other Online CAT Tools
What do you like best about the product?
Smartling is a very intuitive and user-friendly CAT tool. The interface is clean and easy to navigate, with features like Content, Search TM, and Glossary neatly organized into separate tabs, making each function easily accessible. Opening issues is also simple, and the overall layout is easy on the eyes. One of the biggest advantages is the notification settings—each user account can customize them in detail, which is a huge plus.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally, I notice that relevant translation memories appear in Search TM but don’t show up in the right-side panel. It’s a minor issue, but it can be a little confusing at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a freelance translator, I really appreciate that I don’t need to download any materials each time I work on a project—everything is accessible directly in the platform. Another big benefit is the ability to access Smartling from my smartphone, which allows me to quickly check assigned projects or available ones to be claimed even while I’m on the go.
Efficient and straightforward design for translators
What do you like best about the product?
It is equipped with all the necessary functions for localisation work flow and is easy to work with. It also enables more efficient communication between translators, PMs and clients. Notifications and reminders are automated, which is very helpful for freelancers to avoid missing important messages or due dates.
What do you dislike about the product?
The word count report is not very useful, since it doesn't display a summed calculation. The user-facing stats could be organised more thoughtfully.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides more contextual and explanatory information for the localisation process, which benefits the translator in better understanding the expectations from clients.
Great Foundation with Opportunities to Improve
What do you like best about the product?
The UI is user-friendly, and having a dedicated “Context” tab with the source text in the editor is very convenient. I also really appreciate the “Issue” feature. It’s a great way to raise linguistic queries directly within the platform, without needing to reach out through external channels.
What do you dislike about the product?
When running the QA check, there's no option to "ignore all" false positives, which means I end up spending a lot of time dismissing them one by one. It would be a huge time-saver if the platform allowed us to bulk-ignore these.
Also, it would be really helpful if a PO could be issued for each project upfront, so we can confirm the payment amount in advance.

It integrates pretty much everything that a translator needs to work on a project, but there are some gaps as well.

Regular work, easy work flows, automated work assignment, usually quick responses to my questions.
What do you dislike about the product?
When clients reduce their word count without notice and I have already reserved time for their tasks.

Easy to obtain work, less communication needed = efficient work and good time management

What I like best about Smartling is its clean, intuitive interface that makes navigating through projects super easy. The real-time context feature is a game-changer—it allows me to see exactly how and where the translation will appear, which drastically improves accuracy and tone. I also really appreciate the integrated translation memory and glossary tools, which help maintain consistency across large volumes of content.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing I find a bit frustrating about Smartling is tag placement—it can sometimes feel finicky, especially when dealing with long or complex strings. The tags don’t always snap into place easily, and moving them around without accidentally breaking the formatting can be a bit tedious.

It eliminates the chaos of scattered files and endless email threads by keeping everything organized and accessible in real time.

Easy to use and great functionalities
What do you like best about the product?
Startling is very user friendly, it's easy to get an overview of your work and access your projects. The TMs are usually really good and AI suggestions very accurate.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be great if we could contact project managers directly through PMs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Simplicity! All is in one place, including translation tools and invoicing
Intuitive tool
What do you like best about the product?
I love that it's so intuitive and has all the shortcuts that you would need the most. Even with small jobs, it's no hassle - once you're logged on, you just click on the job and start working. There's no downloading software, there's a query feature, and the glossary is well integrated.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish we could join jobs from the same project in stead of having to work on lots of small jobs with 1-50 words separately. We used to be able to do this, but this feature seems to have been deactivated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Well ... I'm being hired to translate and/or edit jobs, so Smartling helps me do that :)
