Works ok overall, but GitHub integration and Markdown support is spotty
What do you like best about the product?
Integrations got better over the last year, namely with GitHub. There are still some issues with it. Changes in configurations quickly hit the GitHub API rate limits, and forces the content to be fully re-processed again, which tends to take a bit to time to get it done.
Although the interface seems a bit outdated, it simply works. It seems that function over aesthetics is the option, which is positive.
Pricing tends to be high, namely for AI based translation, which becomes highly expensive quickly. So if you are looking at Smartling to have it for a AI translation only tool, do check the pricing, there might be better alternatives for AI powered translations. When we used the AI based translations the quality was ok-ish. Our content tends to be more on the technical side, and sometimes it would be a hit and miss.
In terms of support and customer success or account managers, I'd say that the rotation is high and frequently changes. On the support side of things things tend to be solved, however sometimes they just take time.

What do you dislike about the product?
Some issues, namely with the GitHub integration have been reported for several years. Markdown support is spotty at best. We ended up developing a custom transformation to another format that Smartling handles better.
Although it is mentioned that Smartling supports the GitHub flavored markdown, that is not entirely true. Task lists, and others are poorly supported and end up messing up the content.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For us, at this point Smartling is a tool to support the human translation process. By using the GitHub integration we were able to build a fully automated pipeline that takes translated content and publishes on the website. On the other hand, every time the source content is changed, the updates are pushed to Smartling automatically.
Great Zendesk Connectors, but a Cumbersome UI and Weak Search
What do you like best about the product?
It's nice that Smartling can connect directly to our Zendesk instance. The connectors it provides are valuable.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface isn't always great. It's cumbersome to switch between products and the search feature is really bad. I had to submit 92 dynamic content for translation and it took me over two hours because of the search function.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling is allowing us to localize to many different languages. This allows us to offer our products in more countries.
Powerful Localization Tool
What do you like best about the product?
I use Smartling for the localization of 70+ software products, which helps streamline and optimize the process. I find the CAT tool to be powerful, and I appreciate the great visual context and linguistic assets it provides. Our initial setup with Smartling went well, and we've been using it for over 10 years, connecting it to our internal CMS, Braze and Figma.
What do you dislike about the product?
I’ve found the AI implementation isn’t fully adaptable, and it took a while to get to a point where it’s now working mostly well. That said, their business model of charging per word feels counter-intuitive in a fast-paced AI world, where you generally want to ship more—and faster.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling helps streamline and optimize the localization process for over 70 software products in a steady and well-performing environment.
Job Transparency, Needs Visual Improvements
What do you like best about the product?
I use Smartling for the translation process in our company. It quite nicely gives me an overview of the translation phase and jobs. I like the overall look and feel, with great use of space. Pretty much everything is quite accessible, making it a breeze to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are a lot of columns that feel redundant or require too focused input. Job transparency is great, but when you are actually in the job it feels quite overwhelming due to so many strings and little to no visualizations. It doesn't feel like where and how the context will be placed. Also, the initial setup was challenging.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling provides a good overview of translation phases, making everything easily accessible at any step, though some visualization of context placement would be helpful.
Great Connectors, But UI Needs Work
What do you like best about the product?
I like that Smartling supports various connectors, such as GitHub, Contentful, Google Drive, etc. These connectors help us streamline and automate as many workstreams as possible and allow us to minimize manual updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI can be confusing. I wish there were better notifications or tooltips within it. The search is not great. If I look for something with special characters, it doesn't work well. The initial setup was okay, but I wouldn't say it was easy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling supports our localization program with various connectors, streamlining and automating workstreams, minimizing manual updates.
Fast, User-Friendly AI Hub with High-Quality Translations
What do you like best about the product?
It is fast and user-friendly, and the AI Hub is just so easy to set up and use. I was able to set up a profile and workflow with my company Gemini key in minutes and the raw translations we get are of great quality. A feature I also love is that Smartling shares the name of individual translators, so I always know who is giving us great quality and who needs more coaching.
What do you dislike about the product?
TM capabilities for bulk updating TM content are not great. Also, when using the LQA Suite for off-production LQA, there is no easy way to see the instructions that the original translation job had (you have to go back and forth between the original job and the LQA job)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Smartling both as a TMS and for language services, so my company is virtually run on Smartling.
Easy-to-Use Platform That Saves Hours on CRM Translations
What do you like best about the product?
The platform is easy to use, and it saves me hours every week. It’s one of the best tools for powering through translations for our CRM tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform can feel slow at times, and although the interface looks modern, navigation can be difficult. For larger projects, the translation editor also feels limited, with not enough customization options to work efficiently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For me, Smartling addresses the inefficiency of manual, fragmented localization processes by streamlining and automating key workflows. It integrates directly with content platforms and leverages AI/machine learning to accelerate translation, helping reduce costs and shorten time-to-market.
Smartling’s Translation Memory Speeds Localization and Cuts Long-Term Costs
What do you like best about the product?
The translation memory feature in Smartling is very useful because it helps avoid repeated translations, which saves time and reduces costs. Overall, Smartling speeds up localization, improves translation quality, and helps lower long-term costs for global businesses.
What do you dislike about the product?
Updating translations in Smartling is a big issue for me, because I have to update them manually for each individual string, one by one.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It’s a quick way to get optimized translations in any language, with the option to add a review step using our local employees when needed. It supports the localization of our products at a global level and helps us keep the content aligned for different markets.
Easy to Use with Fast Outputs and Plenty of Features
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, fast outputs, multiple features
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not have any negative thoughts or comments
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Website translations, multi regional campaign translations, helps us focus on other work
Efficient Translation with Trustworthy Results
What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to submit a request in Smartling and immediately get a cost estimate and an approximate time it will take, with the option for a rush order if needed. It's great to feel confident using Smartling for our complex pages. I appreciate that you can have different buckets for projects, which works well since marketing and I have separate tasks. I also like getting emails when a source string is opened, allowing me to quickly see and respond to issues. It's reassuring to know that a person is reviewing my articles and sending feedback.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do think the interface could be a little more user-friendly. There are different buckets, and once you get in, every once in a while, I'll get lost and have to go back to the main page, where I'm familiar with the path to get to my items. I also wish that the source string that it were a little easier to view when you go to the content page. It's usually a muted color, and I wish that wasn't the case.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartling makes it easy to submit translation requests and get quick cost estimates and timelines. It offers rush options and handles complex pages, which gives me confidence over using alternatives like ChatGPT.
