Simply the Best

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about SimpleLegal is its ease of use and intuitive interface. Implementation was smooth and relatively painless.
What do you dislike about the product?
Keeping the platform simple has hindered the customization of some functions meaning we haven't been able to take full advantage of some offerings. However, we deliberately chose a package that had the functionality we needed without all the extra bells and whistles we wouldn't use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before SimpleLegal, we had little to no visibility into our legal spend. Having the data at our fingertips has allowed us to forecast our costs more accurately as well as negotiate better with our vendors.

Verification with invoice approvals; the spend dashboard is great for reporting.

Invoicing and Budgeting Streamlined

What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy the overall interface. It makes reviewing invoices and tracking spend much easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think that the matter budget feature could be improved. Compared to the rest of SimpleLegal's features, this page is more limited in its notification capabilities/customization options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SimpleLegal has allowed us to better monitor and review our invoices. It also allows us to keep track of discount rates and review historic spend. We've been able to increase oversight and reduce our expenses as a result.

What do you like best about the product?
The fact that it is easy to use. My attorneys picked it up quickly.

I wish the reporting was a little more robust.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The information is more accurate. With the few reports that we do run, I feel more confident in the information.

What do you like best about the product?
SimpleLegal has a winner product, a robust database, very well structured, and predicts future challenges for success. The platform is very much guiding the legal department on how to organize and structure the matter management and has better control over checks and balances. SimpleLegal has a very strong advisory team to take you through the business and technical issues
What do you dislike about the product?
I would expect more customizations to come as a part of the basic product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Matter management is the main part, while it can be to measure the full cost of the matter/actuals by account and practice areas. Accrual module capability to support finance team directly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great interface and intuitive for users/admins and vendors. Robust and fairly flexible platform to structure your legal transactions. Can be managed with minimal involvement of the corporate IT.
SimpleLegal allows Legal Operations to delegate work to other departments and releasing bottlenecks such as accruals and collaboration within other organizations within the company on Legal services invoices.

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to navigate for our users of all technological experience, and similarly reported to be easy and intuitive by outside firms using CounselGo.
What do you dislike about the product?
Need more custom features for outside firms. There are certain metrics we would like to track, but that we would need the outside firms to submit on the CounselGo side that we don't currently have a functionality for. This would greatly improve our experience if we could set customizable attributes for the firms to input and that we could then track spend by.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
System can be a bit clunky sometimes, and it would be helpful to be able to have additional information in the notification emails that are sent to attorneys to review invoices. However, having legal invoicing centralized in one location and with all uploads self-contained has greatly streamlined our process.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The point of SimpleLegal is to be "simple" so don't expect a massive suite of features. However, the array of features given the model of the platform is more than you might expect. The system is easy to use and adds value.

What do you like best about the product?
I like knowing the status of each invoice, the ability to download the invoice listing and accrual listings, as well as the ability of legal firms to enter their accruals by matter type. It's convenient to see the PDF's immediately of each invoice and also have the vendor listing available with correct contact information. Since I am on the accounting side, it helps to ensure our accruals are accurate and we don't have to email each law firm individually for month end estimates, they can just upload it directly into SimpleLegal.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like the fact that you can only see one year of data at a time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
From an accounting perspective, having accruals upfront ensures we have accurate numbers at month end. Receiving accruals in one place is convenient to go back and look at previous months for trends. Also, having a consistent set of approvers has been very helpful in streamlining the invoice approval cycle, and seeing each matter clearly and amount spent for each matter has been a huge help with budgeting and forecasting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
From an accounting perspective, if you are looking for a one-stop shop for all legal matters, SimpleLegal is easy to use, integrates perfectly into our ERP, and has helped us have greater accuracy around our legal budget and forecast.

What do you like best about the product?
How simple it is to set up matters, matter templates, vendors, and users and to review invoices and accruals. Also, the support responds quickly and handles any technical questions from vendors.
What do you dislike about the product?
A few workflows do require Simple Legal's support, but they're VERY responsive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Invoice workflow automation, billing guideline compliance, and soon, an integration with Workday.

Efficient e-billing and budgeting tool

What do you like best about the product?
SimpleLegal is an efficient tool that makes the approval flow of invoices run smoothly for all stakeholders and legal vendors alike. Invoices posted to the system go straight to their approvers, and we are in constant contact with vendors to obtain accruals - which is extremely helpful when we're planning the legal budget for the upcoming FY.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish we could assign approvers for specific sub-practice areas (currently we can only do it for practice areas). Moreover, the matter reports function doesn't have many filters - which makes us dig into huge spreadsheets to find information on a specific matter. It would be nice if vendors received instant notifications when posting invoices that do not meet our criteria for approval.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Budget forecasting, matter financial analysis, and exchanging intradepartmental notes on invoices. We didn't have these capabilities in our old process.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
SimpleLegal is an easy and effective tool for e-billing, but in regards to matter management, a company that needs to keep close track of specific sub-practice areas (for instance, 'HR support' under a general 'Employment Law' practice area) would be somewhat disappointed. The same goes for assigning approvers for sub-practice areas. SimpleLegal/CounselGo often offers training courses on various subjects, and users should leverage those materials.

What do you like best about the product?
Having the ability to submit invoices on behalf of vendor and moving invoices around to correct matter when entered to wrong one.
What do you dislike about the product?
The reports are not all that great...hard to understand...hard to capture the specific data that you need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to troubleshoot and catch areas of law spend that is outside of the agreed range. More closely managing matters, vendors and spend.
