Xero is great (except for lack of support)

What do you like best about the product?
The simple interface
Reliable performance
Customisable reporting
What do you dislike about the product?
There are features which are hidden (e.g. Trust/Fund reporting) from people who are not tax agents or registered accountants.
The support is only delayed/online - you cannot call, chat or email a real person! There are some irate people in the Xero Community discussion forums and some who have had to move to other products because it was too frustrating for them (I was ALMOST one of those myself, if it had not been for my superb financial controller who got us out of a jam).
The multi-currency FX feature exists but NOT for expense claims (the most common need my business has for FX)!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Management accounting and reporting
Tracking of income/expenses by asset
Statutory reporting
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you know your CoA, your business and are self-sufficient with accounting/admin

Great for small business

What do you like best about the product?
I like to Xero on my mobile to create invoices and receipts. It's quick and easy to attach the receipt photo so I don't have to keep the print copy. I can also see when a receipt has been approved for payment. It's a great tool for our company.
What do you dislike about the product?
For the amount of use that I have, and the type of use, I can't fault anything.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can give different access level to every employee, allowing them to launch their expenses without having to go through time consuming and clunky accounting systems.

Consult your accountant.

Easy Accounting

What do you like best about the product?
I like how user-friendly Xero is. I can categorize all my expenses using the app, very quickly and easily. I'm still learning the ins and outs of the detailed reports, but I like that I can run a report about basically anything.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's not much I dislike. Other than the monthly fee :-) I guess the reports are a little tricky, but that's coming from someone with zero accounting experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm able to keep up with all of my income, expenses, assets, and liabilities as they occur. So come tax time, everything is already organized and ready to go.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're like me and new to accounting, get a personal accountant or bookkeeper to help you at first. I definitely needed help with the set-up process. But now, maintenance is easy.

Lacking in functionality and move very slowly

What do you like best about the product?
It is online and reasonably easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The product is incomplete. it is missing a lot of features that the community have been asking for for over 3-4 years and they have not made any progress. No changes, updates or improvements except at the high end obviously for their favouritre "large" customers.
Then they implement price increases on the lowend users who've received no improvements at all
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
trying to run my business accounts.
only partially solved them - a lot of manual workarounds required
Recommendations to others considering the product:
make a lit of your top 5 most important requirements and ask the community first.
If you are a small business, you will find this lacking in what would be considered must have.

What do you like best about the product?
Very smart system, super easy to use. Connections to accounts are seamless. Great reports

I do not dislike anything about Xero. Much better than my former "solution", Quickbooks

Keep my accounts under control. Tax reporting

What do you like best about the product?
I liked the fact that you were about to reconcile your bank accounts from within the platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although I liked the reconciliation function, I wish you were able to input the data directly from your bank account by syncing it instead of having it upload and you having to review it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's great for accounts receivable and accounts payable. I was working at a co-working space so I was able to issue invoices, have them paid and then documenting them through Xero.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
IF you understand accounting yes, if not it will appear difficult to use. It is definitely professional grade accounting software.

What do you like best about the product?
I like Xero's cloud base accounting software - that I can log-in from anywhere.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of inventory/job costing interactivity.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are putting small businesses on Xero, especially those with younger owners who appreciate the cloud based nature.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go through the certification process to become comfortable with Xero.

What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate the support received for this product. I love the ease of use and organizing all the business categories we need.
What do you dislike about the product?
At first, it can be intimidating to use, but with the help of support, I was able to figure it all out!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were doing everything in Excel. That's great for the first year and if you don't have many transactions. But we started to grow fairly fast and wanted something that was online too.

The overall format is a little annoying.

Staying organized! Xero has helped me figure out where I am losing money in my biz and the areas that I can improve on.
