    Logistics and Supply Chain

One stop tool for the Discovery of heterogenous applications!

  • February 01, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing we felt about CAST Imaging is its breadth of Technology coverage itself - Mainframe, Distributed, Mobile, and so on. A single product that can help analyze heterogeneous solutions. Next comes the interactive browser-based drill-down capabilities, providing a seamless Top-Down discovery experience. Another commendable feature of CAST Imaging is its ability to automatically discover Transactions and Data flows, which accelerates the Discovery phases significantly. The ability to set up and customize Pattern-based linkage between components complements the automated Discovery capability. Documentation and Reporting capabilities are only getting better with newer versions of CAST Imaging. Pretty happy with the Product so far!
What do you dislike about the product?
Overall we are happy with the Imaging product. However, we want CAST to improve the browser performance when the number of objects in the view gets bigger. As we understand, it is in the Imaging roadmap. We are so looking forward to it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are primarily leveraging CAST Imaging for the accelerated Discovery of complex legacy applications. The product has been helping us accelerate the Legacy Modernization goals.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the insights obtained from imaging such as
1.inventory of all the components that are part of the application
2.Visibility into the interdependency between the components
3.Call flow analysis
4.Collaboration platform for developers
What do you dislike about the product?
I am interested in integration of imaging with jira to track the stories under development
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
1.Driving roadmap for modernization and tracking the modernization journey
2.Drive productivity improvement of developers by reducing application discovery efforts
3.Strengthen the test efficiency with transparent on precise details of what has changed in the code
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would prefer imaging for the technology coverage, scalability and repeatability

What do you like best about the product?
System development with CAST Imaging is a new way of application development. All systems architechts should know it.
What do you dislike about the product?
1, Expensive.
2, Technical support (CAST Help)
3, CAST Product Quality, specially CAST CMS and Analysis unit for C/C++.
4, Limited Functionality.
5, Difficult to implement and analyze code.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For refactoring, we need to understand;
1, Algorithm from the code
2, Specifications associated with the code
3, Architecture in terms of many different views
4, The people who create and use the code.

CAST Imaging - blueprints of your applications

  • January 14, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
CAST Imaging is a compelling and innovative product from CAST. If Organization implements it and methodically trains teams in a controlled environment for daily tasks, it may have a tremendously positive effect for the particular application team and the Organization in general if used by the majority of the applications teams.
Main idea of CAST Imaging is to provide visualization blueprints for applications developed and maintained in Organization. Repository of the code, including definition of the schema of the database (not data!) should be provided for the scanning engine. Scanning results are uploaded on the CAST Imaging dedicated internal servers and transferred to the visualization GraphDB (Neo4j technology part). Visual blueprint representation is reflected on the CAST Imaging web application provided to the team members.
CAST Imaging does not change your code or database. As processing is conducted on internal servers, there is no risk of intellectual capital exposure. Both scanned code and digest of the results remain in the organization. Your repositories remain the “master records.” A new scan will bring all new and modified objects and relationships between the objects, which will reflect the recent release. As such, you will have up to date architectural blueprint of the application, being updated as the application evolves along with new releases.
What do you dislike about the product?
Key to the success and maximal effect if you want to get the most from the product is control and encouraging the actual usage of CAST Imaging in Organization, starting from the very top. It implies SDLC process culture adjustments on the Organization level to integrate CAST Imaging for regular use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The application team can use it for a wide variety of purposes:
• As permanent self-updating architecture documentation of the application.
• Explore relationships and dependencies between different application layers and objects.
• Teach new developers, or brush up knowledge for existing developers switching to the new application areas.
• Analyze and predict effect and LOE for new development areas.
• Analyze replacement of particular modules and components and identify candidates for micro-services.
• Trace data flow from the screens to tables, identifying more efficient and optimal data management methods.
• To search components by the name of technology types and create custom views or export inventory of the objects related to the search parameters for further analysis or discussions with the team.
• To export visual architectural applications diagrams for sharing and discussions.
• To predict and plan accurate regression testing when there are changed business objects or fields in the database that can affect multiple screens.
• To plan modernization or component version upgrades, assessing the volume of work on the application level accurately.
• Document comment or intended actions directly on the CAST Imaging screen.
• It is even possible now to reflect found Possible Vulnerabilities on Open Source components in CAST HL and export this information to CAST Imaging to begin actual analysis for upgrade or replacement.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Organizations with dozens or even hundreds of applications will benefit the most.
Medium-Large-Huge Applications, legacy Applications with complicated code, applications candidates for the re-write, or partial upgrades will benefit the most.
