Gone with the old in with the new
What do you like best about the product?
One of the biggest changes in NTA is the new chart styles. Gone are the old static charts, instead NTA now has charts that can be dynamically changed for custom date ranges on the fly using a sliding scale below the chart.Checkboxes allow to turn on or off the display of different chart elements, making it easy to simplify the view by removing unwanted data.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not available as standalone product – Orion Network Performance Monitor required
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring the bandwidth utilization for better QOS assignment.
Orion monitoring is a helpful aid for monitoring our environment.
What do you like best about the product?
Notification system is excellent. Orion offers up fast notifications when it detects something different than the rules we set.
Lots of notifications are offered - IE, reboot warnings, offline machines, resources and data shares getting a certain % to capacity. So easy to choose what notifications apply to where, etc.
How easy we can configure user access (using AD authentication).
Configure actions to occur (like restarting services) on certain problematic servers and software.

What do you dislike about the product?
Although the notifications are super handy, sometimes the emails will continue to spam. For example, if a resource hits 80% to capacity, and increases again by a few MBs, another notification will spam you.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Machine and data share monitoring for computer / server objects and data resources. Spams emails to our staff to notify when something is awry. Allows pro-active notifications to resolve issues potentially before they happen.
Can also involve non-technical teams that may look after certain products. We can notify them without having to grant them access to server resources. Or allow them to engage a technical resource for troubleshooting.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking at this product, start pro-actively documenting what resources you need to monitor, and what about them you want to monitor.
Works but could be more user friendly
What do you like best about the product?
Allows customization
Bandwidth and utilization on the network links can be monitored for a period of time and can be easily customized based on interfaces.
give a overall view of several statistics on a single page in a grid view.
several items can be monitored at the same time

What do you dislike about the product?
hard to keep track of down nodes, one pops over another, could be tied to a ticketing tool to auto generate tickets on certain links of nodes being monitored.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
network management
I have used SolarWinds for over 1 yr now. Once you get past the learning curve, it works great!
What do you like best about the product?
The parts of SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor that i like the best is that it is so customize-able. You can create so many different custom monitors.
What do you dislike about the product?
What i disliked the most was trying to grasp the work flow and how things worked it can seem complicated at times until you understand what exactly its doing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We monitor over 100 servers with many customization's. We now feel secure that we have a better grasp on our infrastructure. We now have a 24/7 monitoring in place and have had next to no issues with the product.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
dont give up on learning how to use it. keep at it!
Great monitoring tool
What do you like best about the product?
The email alerts are great for after-hours notifications. I also like that it is able to automatically restart services.
What do you dislike about the product?
The SolarWinds agent service reports an unknown state periodically which generates false alarms. We have to connect to the server and manually restart the service to resolve them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for monitoring enterprise level multi-tier environments. This has been very helpful in allowing us to increase both the number of environments that we are able to monitor and the level of monitoring without requiring any additional staff.
Hosted monitoring tool for current environment
What do you like best about the product?
I like that solar winds is able to monitor disk, cpu, up/down times, and is able to notify us of any issues that we are seeing in our environment. This allows us to get a jump start on these activities and to not take any unnecessary downtime
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that we have to restart the solar winds agent somewhat frequently as it appears to go down and then come back up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are helping our customers maintain an SLA uptime that they have agreed upon with us by using solar winds to monitor our environment.
Extremely Useful Monitoring
What do you like best about the product?
We take full advantage of this software. It enables us to monitor key Windows Services, as well as performance metrics of our environments.
What do you dislike about the product?
Intuitive. There are a great deal of options to familiarize yourself with. Not so much of a con, just a ton of great options available.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By Monitoring, and automatically starting failed windows services, we reduce the impact to environments, and notify parties involved.
Brilliant software which help my company to monitor our network
What do you like best about the product?
Librato offered me the possibility to monitor in a single dashboard webpage most of my services. Best two features are:
- Real time monitoring
- Possiblity to slide back in time easily

- Possiblity to slide back in time easily
What do you dislike about the product?
I like everything, I would rather say I would create the mobile application to have much more control during the day.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm monitoring the health and performance of my redis server used to store information about websockets.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Highly recommended to everyone who need to monitor more than one service. Extremely useful because is "packed" everything in one single live dashboard.
Solarwinds makes for a slick product, with a few caveats.
What do you like best about the product?
Solarwinds is quick and easy to use. Monitoring is excellent and mostly works great. Support is generally very helpful, although sometimes slow to respond.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve is a bit steep and the interface can be clunky. Everything is extremely expensive to maintain and acquire.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Better insight into issues before they become bigger issues. We were able to identify a firewall that had a high CPU spike.
Expensive, but still the best product we've used.
What do you like best about the product?
Great way to aggregate our logs from both AWS and our applications directly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost. We know they could charge a lot less, but you have to really fight with their billing department to get them to come down in pricing. There's also no way to drop "unimportant logs". For example, we want to send everything, but only certain things need to be kept for longer then a few days.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Digging into any issues, tracking usage, and generally managing our server log files and application logs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
WIth the addition of the live-tail client, Loggly is now the best solution I've found for the price. Although we've also evaluated using LogEntries as an alternative, LogEntries is similar in pricing and doesn't have the polish that Loggly has.
