  • December 29, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Barracuda Email Protection is used for email protection and forensics.

What is most valuable?

The best feature of Barracuda Email Protection is that it provides protection for Microsoft 365. Barracuda Email Protection is totally integrated with Microsoft and provides protection for email, OneDrive, and SharePoint.

What needs improvement?

The solution's reporting mechanism is a little poor and could be improved. There is no reporting mechanism with regard to the incidents and the root cause analysis. The solution should provide full details about any incident that happens.

I rate Barracuda Email Protection a nine out of ten for stability.

Robust security features, scalability, and seamless deployment that ensure safeguarding against diverse email threats

  • November 30, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

As a system integrator, our focus lies in delivering system integration as a service. Our approach is customer-centric, tailoring solutions based on individual client relationships. Suppose a scenario where a customer was using Office 365 and noticed a lack of attachment security in their inboxes due to missing Office 365 E or E5 licenses. This resulted in an influx of spam emails, recognizing the significant threat posed by email-based attacks. In response, we conducted an assessment and recommended Barracuda Total Email Protection. We seamlessly redirected Office 365 traffic to the existing Barracuda solution, effectively addressing the attachment security concerns.

How has it helped my organization?

It stands out as a leading vendor in the market. Its prowess extends beyond mere email attachment protection to include file classification, identification of malicious URLs, and cloud-based isolation for enhanced security.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect includes attempts to spoof or compromise domains from external sources. In instances where these were not listed in the records already populated by Barracuda, this demonstrated the effectiveness of Barracuda's USB in addressing such security concerns.

What needs improvement?

Its stability features could benefit from continuous enhancement. There is room for improvement, particularly in reaching out to technical support during deployment.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate it eight out of ten. While stability could see improvements, I must emphasize that Barracuda Email Protection has been instrumental in safeguarding against various attack methods. In the realm of security, I would confidently give it a perfect rating of ten, considering its robust defense against a multitude of attack vectors.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution's scalability is noteworthy—it's a straightforward and highly scalable system. I would rate it ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Regarding tech support in India, historically, we used local or regional support channels. To enhance the support experience, it would be beneficial to tailor support metrics to facilitate easier access for deployment engineers and customers.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was reasonably straightforward. While not overly complex, having some familiarity with other email protection solutions and an understanding of how MX records and the system's PTA record function proved beneficial. If you're acquainted with these aspects, deploying the solution becomes a smooth process.

What about the implementation team?

Deployment time is contingent on various factors, particularly the complexity of the architecture and the specific scenario. We facilitated the provisioning of a tenant on the AWS portal for the customer. We suggested pointing the proposed records from there to the Barracuda side. Once activated on the backend, it took approximately twenty-four hours for the records, including A records and PTA records, to be fully populated.

What was our ROI?

In terms of ROI, I can confidently state that all my customers have expressed satisfaction, leading to successful license renewals.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Opting for a hosted solution would be a more advantageous choice for the customer. Managing all the equipment on-site carries the risk of potential failures and maintenance challenges.

What other advice do I have?

I highly recommend that customers explore all available options to leverage added advantages. Conducting a brief and successful trial can be instrumental in determining the most suitable Barracuda solution for their unique requirements. Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten.

The solution offers excellent support to help you secure emails within your environment

  • August 31, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We have a premium selection within our environment and use Barracuda. It stops threats and malicious messages but also detects stuff you don't want on your computer and in your environment, so we're really happy. You don't have to do anything. You get emails to notify you.

What is most valuable?

The built-in AI tool can analyze the behavior of people who write emails to you to provide impersonation protection. Barracuda also has a single dashboard and viewing pane, so it's easy to select all the features that Barracuda Email Protection has.

What needs improvement?

Barracuda Email Protection currently only works with Microsoft 365. It would be cool to see a more inclusive vendor approach where they should include Google Suite and other vendors like Amazon, for example. You also need complete admin access within your Microsoft 365 account to deploy Barracuda completely, so when you deploy the solution for a customer, it could be hard to transfer those rights from being an end user to a reseller. That's something they could improve.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've worked with the solution for one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Barracuda's stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate Barracuda's scalability higher than eight out of ten. In my company, we were pretty weird in our segments. We have clients with 50 users, but also clients with, like, 10,000 users. And we have all kinds of clients, such as the government and the health industry.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy, though it could be difficult for a non-IT person to implement the solution. Barracuda has a lot of support and training to get you started. You can take your time to get all the settings correctly. And when the solution works, it works great.

If you don't receive support, the initial setup can be rated a six and a half out of ten.

It takes one day to deploy the solution. When deploying the solution, you must have your Microsoft 365 account with admin rights. Then, you need to deploy all the inbound and outbound settings. You have to create a predefined set of rules, so you just click what you want and put in your email protocols. There are three email protocols, and you must fill in those IDs. You then have to verify your account settings, and they also need to be verified to be transferred through Barracuda Mail, and then it will be transferred back to your email. That way, Barracuda, the vendor, can see all the possible emails that you are getting. You can install these things to your wishes. You have to commit to a relink where everything is linked to Barracuda and your email server. You have to enable or disable the predefined rules and then finish. You can make the deployment as weird and as wild as you can. Those are the main steps, I believe.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the pricing a five out of ten since it is in the middle. We only pay for the licensing costs.

What other advice do I have?

We have 50% off on everything in our environment. We just calculate the pricing from Barracuda plus our margin for our clients.

I'm really happy with the product. I think it's amazing and rate it an eight and a half out of ten.

My advice when getting the solution is to get yourself certified to join the Barracuda campus. It allows you to train, and it's pretty important to know your product. But if you do not have the time to, I advise you to contact Barracuda's support because they're very qualified and will help you with any of your questions, even remotely, when installing it. If you do it independently without knowledge, using the solution could get messy.

Easy initial setup, stable and reliable cybersecurity features

  • June 08, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It's used by big companies, banks, and others. We provide technical support and solution design for them.

What is most valuable?

The best feature of Barracuda email protection is the technical support team.

What needs improvement?

In terms of improvement, the main issue is the price increase every quarter, which makes it expensive and less favored. That's why people are looking for a new product.

In future releases, there are many things to add because they have a fixed policy to send out emails. Moreover, there is less visibility on the algorithm. The policies are set up in Barracuda by default; we don't have any control over them. If there is a more flexible policy available, it would be more helpful. And the event tracking, delivery reports, and customized reporting. Those are not that good enough.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been supporting it here in Bangladesh for about 12 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Barracuda email protection is stable. I would give it a nine out of ten because of its strong cybersecurity features. Once the IT team implements the solution, they can handle it without needing further assistance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The number of users depends on the clients. We have a minimum of 200 and a maximum of 10,000 users.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support team is really good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy. We have a team that checks and handles various issues.

What other advice do I have?

In my opinion, I would recommend to explore other options. Expenses are a factor. Due to the increasing costs, we can no longer afford it. It seems that small clients are not receiving sufficient protection with the current management system. If they start with 100 to 200 users, they cannot afford Barracuda Email Protection.

Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.
