How do you Replace AD, add Security, and introduce new services efficiently? JumpCloud is how!

  • February 19, 2021

What do you like best about the product?
The single portal for everything is the key here. I spent weeks researching different Identity Providers, MFA Providers, and Platforms to manage tasks for our organization. Our need was for a cloud-based solution to replace an AD authentication method that would integrate with Users, Devices, VPN, WiFi, and any other hardware devices that we currently have on -prem.
Our timeframe was accelerated on the purchase and implementation phase, and the cost of building a new cloud-based AD, not to mention the time associated with testing, managing, and maintenance was not attractive. I started a demo of JumpCloud, quickly set up a test-bed of users, and was blown away at the additional features that JumpCloud has.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not a single thing I can pinpoint that I do not like, but the addition of WIndows based MDM would be a very nice feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have been able unify our user logins, across multiple systems, hardware, integrate WPA Enterprise, MFA, gain insight into user devices that we have never had before.

LDAP in the cloud

  • February 19, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The webgui means there's no need to learn how to write LDIF structures first.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's got to be limitations, but I haven't hit any yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No need to manage our own OpenLDAP server anymore: no more expert knowledge required. And as a SaaS solution means it's much easier to integrate with other SaaS and on premise products.

A dead-simple solution to a problem I thought would be a lot harder to solve

What do you like best about the product?
JumpCloud works exacts as advertised. Every feature I’ve used has either worked the first time or failed in an expected way, which is saying a lot when managing Windows machines. I was able to roll the the JumpCloud agent to a host of machines with relative ease, and within minutes they were all accessible within the JumpCloud portal.

I was delighted to have been able to sync users from Google Workspace so easily, and rolling those users out to the Windows machines was just as easy. The offices I am managing went from using a single, shared login (an Admin account!) to separate logins with standard user privileges.

I love that JumpCloud supports SAML2 integrations. This means with a bit of configuration I can provide an SSO experience with a huge host of available software apps. They’ve even made push-button integrations with third parties available as much as possible with clear indications on which integrations do and do not provision user accounts for you.

JumpCloud support has been very good as well. I’ve had multiple questions about pricing and features, all of which have been addressed. I’ve even gotten to meet a JumpCloud platform developer who was kind enough to answer all my questions and then some.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would love to have a mobile app and more mobile support in general. I’ve been told mobile browsers aren’t supported, but I am able to perform management tasks in Firefox on my iPad. So there is _some_ mobile support. Of course, Firefox is just a great browser in general.

There was also some initial confusion for me about how to manage software. The software management part only supports applications in Chocolatey, but I didn’t know I could install any software using Commands. This knowledge would have saved me some headache when I had to roll out a driver for a hardware device that was available as an MSI. Perhaps some text on the software screen to point people to the commands section would be useful?

I’d love to have a more unified view of system events. It takes a fair amount of digging to determine the state of a system, though the information is more or less all there.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am providing IT support for a 3-office tax business with less than 20 computers. This business is brand new and very low on cash. JumpCloud has given the business a technical edge without requiring thousands of dollars up front, and it has worked well. I am able to respond to support requests and roll out policy changes that help keep the business in conformance with IRS requirements for tax organizations, and I can do a lot of it remotely. There’s a lot of peace of mind in that!

JumpCloud fit the bill

  • February 19, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We needed a solution that would tie together laptops across Windows, Mac, and Linux, along with a cloud-based workload with zero on-premise hardware; JumpCloud met that need, at a reasonable price. Console access is easy to navigate, and powershell/API connectivity is excellent (anything you can do, you can automate).
What do you dislike about the product?
As the service is still growing, there are things we'd love to see that simply aren't done yet or aren't part of the immediate road map (Our assets are already tracked as they are enrolled, but a full-on asset tracking functionality hasn't been created; other larger/more established competitors can offer niche solutions for edge cases already, as examples).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using it provide centralized authentication and authorization, policy enforcement, and gather metrics across laptops, servers, and cloud-based systems. We're using it extensively for SAML2 integrations with every 3rd party application we use.

Jumpcloud saves me so much time with remote management and policy enforecement.

What do you like best about the product?
We are a distributed multi OS small business. JC gives me the ability to remotely manage all the machines from one spot. Controlling policies, unlocking accounts and auditing are fantastic features to leverage. The ability to remotely set up new systems and add users from different geographic locations to a machine really acts as domain controller that we lack. Love it.
What do you dislike about the product?
I love the product, would like to see an app in the future so that remote unlock and password management could be even easier. Honestly I don't have many dislikes. I did have an issue with a Mac system that fell out of love with JC, we tried to recover it but it was caught in a vicious cycle of not knowing if it was a member of our org or not, we worked on the phone with a tech support dude to get it up and running. He solved our problems, so no complaints really. The number of small businesses that could utilize this product working towards CMMC level 3 seems to be an incredible spot for JC to excel. I'd love to see a specific focus on that area in their business, some POC's, experts, webinars, checklists.. etc... great growth market.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Remote management and policy enforcement is key. Streamlined integration with google workplace!! Saves me time and money. The remote management is key especially in a year when most employees are remote anyhow. The continued evolution of the JC interface and features are nice to see. There are a number of small companies that could leverage JC in their infrastructure towards CMMC compliance.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Leverage this product to ensure remote policy enforcement and clawback of company data or wipe when needed. Also, the ability to unlock accounts, reset passwords etc.. while on the go is a no brainer.

Excellent tool for managing assets!

  • February 19, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Managing assets has never been easier. Whether it's a laptop of a desktop, I can easily manage content and users individually or by groups. It's also very fast at sending changes from console to devices.
What do you dislike about the product?
We use Office365, changing users passwords when forgotten doesn't always sync for some reason so I end up having to change in both systems. Users can change no problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Auto Distribution of software through commands. Especially now with everyone working remotely, the ability to change a user account to admin allows them to install needed software without remote intervention by me. Once installed, I simply change back to standard user.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want a central place to manage user security and your company's electronic assets. I recommend JumpCloud is for you.

Great unified directory solution for a business without AD

  • February 19, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Using Jumpcloud as a unified directory and syncing with other directories (Microsoft 365 or Google Suite e.g.) just works. We don't need to bother with an on-prem AD and we still get a great identity management solution. Provisioning of new users and deprovisioning of users is a breeze. With the advent of Cloud services and remote working, traditional ways of managing identities on-premise (e.g. with an LDAP Server) just didn't work anymore for us.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occassionally, we ran into issues with the systems agent on macOS, which is probably due to changes in macOS Security aspects (mainly regarding password changes and Filevault). The Jumpcloud support however was stellar and made sure these issues could be solved quickly.
Another aspect, that we had not previously realised, is that the implementation of SSO often depends on the service level/contract with the Service Provider. E.g. you won't be able to use SSO with an Adobe Team subscription. This is however not a limitation on Jumpcloud's side.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We spend much less time managing users and credentials and users often can solve their Identity/Access related issues themselves. We're mostly using directory sync, the systems agent, as well as LDAP and RADIUS integration. So far, we're not using Jumpcloud for SSO and we're using a different provider for Mobile Device Management (MDM).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jumpcloud is in my opinion one of the best options for small businesses like us for Identity Management, especially if they do not yet have an Active Directory (e.g. for Mac-only places).
