Brings your ideas to life!

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The utmost ease of this useful tool; ready for beginners to jump right in. It tops the dread of eliminating tedious steps by each movement being contingent on the previous move.

Easily click, drag and drop for seamless use as you build out your idea as well as inspired with other ideas as you create.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initially, I was experiencing some trouble locating particular shapes. I later discovered this may have been due to the level of access I had.

Additionally, the original page setting, even though it is set up to provide the graph of the view, as you add the page will extend; if there is a way to have an overall background instead of the one basic page that would help in extending charts instead of rolling it across.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My current projects require a variety of clients, which provide individual products. With the use of Lucidchart, we are compacting a type of wiki overview of each client and the various products. Creating a wiki of particular products gives an overview of step-by-step processes taking place in the flow of business operations.

    Computer Software

Very comparable to Visio

What do you like best about the product?
I've been a long-time Visio user, back to when it was owned ShapeWare and came on a single floppy. Yes, it's been a while. I'm entrenched and really like Visio. So maybe it's time for a change.

So my current employer is using Lucid as a drawing tool. OK, I say, I'll give it a go, Partially in the name of learning something new, partially to keep things constant with everyone else. So off I went.

Creating my first drawing (a swimlane sequence diagram for one of our software processes), I was struck by how easy it was to translate my skills from Visio. Shapes are on the left; the drawing tools are on the top, and the drawing surface is where you'd expect - front and center. Drawing and highlighting are straightforward, and page operations are also easy to figure out. The lassoing of items on the page is slightly different (touch versus enclosing), but that didn't take too long to figure out.

Printing is also relatively simple. It generates a document and opens the standard print dialog to send it to a printer. It looks like it supports most paper sizes and also custom sizes if you're sending it to a plotter or other device to print non-standard paper sizes.

The capability to edit documents anywhere is excellent. Visio I was locked to a workstation, but Lucid, being an online application, allows me to swap to another workstation, use my tablet, or pretty much any other device. There are apps for the iPad (and the iPhone) that can also allow editing, though I haven't needed to use those for more than some viewing so far.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the primary things I used Visio for is database modelling. While you can do this in Lucid, the feature in Visio allowed you to connect to an existing database and create the diagram. I am sure that Lucid will have a solution to fill this gap, along with other tasks that involve working with external data sources in the future.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am primarily using Lucid for documenting current processes for other developers to learn about how our systems work and interact with each other. Currently I amd drawing a lot of sequence diagrams, it also involves database diagrams and some object modeling.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get in there, play with it, draw something simple. Learn where things are, and then get more complicated.

Helpful tool for software architecture

  • May 26, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like all the features when deciding what different things I want in my diagram. I also like many of the additional icons that they provide that I can include in my diagram so that I don't have to go online and get them myself. Also, the user interface is super simple and easy to understand.
What do you dislike about the product?
The connections between the boxes can be a little finicky at times. The lines can become difficult to manage and move around, and I'm still not quite how they work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am creating software architecture diagrams on Lucidchart and it has really helped the team better visualize the workflow of the application.
