Top-notch software & responsive support staff
What do you like best about the product?
There are so many ways to analyze the wide array of variables we input in our data. When we initially purchased the software years ago, the support staff at IBM worked with us to customize settings to our system configuration - it was a big help!
What do you dislike about the product?
I have no negative feedback at this time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SPSS to analyze data that allows us to support clients in preventing social issues. The reports from data analysis help them display the effect of their programs, which aids in recruiting volunteers and receiving grants for program funding.
Great and very powerful stats analysis tool
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is one of the leading statistical analysis tool used in science and research. It is a really powerful tool with a whole range of analyses that can be used. It is able to handle very large datasets, as well as simple data for more basic analyses. It is very versatile.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is really difficult to use properly! It is hard to pick up and use without having quite a bit of training beforehand. The types of tests to use are completely up to the user, and it is very easy to choose the wrong test for the data, whereas other software can suggest types of tests based on the data used.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Basic scientific research and statistical analysis of significance of data obtained. It is one of the few go-to software for scientific and medical researchers. The software has been able to handle the smaller and larger data sets in my work, and still be rigorous in the tests.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is such a powerful tool, but think carefully about usability. It is very difficult to use well without prior training, and some other software may be more intuitive for early users.
Running analysis made easy
What do you like best about the product?
Organization of the data set is what makes SPSS great for simple analysis like correlations and ANOVAs. You can customize by measurement levels and name variables as needed. You can upload excel sheets from Qualtics or things Survey Monkey. Perfect for survey data!
What do you dislike about the product?
Only for survey data mostly and run simple analysis. You can see charts of your descriptives, which helps visualizing data. Never had any issues with SPSS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Running analysis mainly for survey data. Usually batteries of assessments. You can organized your data set by levels of measurements. Your variables can also be named. It's pretty easy to learn and train others on it. Lots of training opportunities online. I had contact SPSS, representative was very helpful!

Lots of training opportunities online. I had contact SPSS, representative was very helpful! Overall, very easy use for survey data. You can see descriptives as needed for simple statistics overview. Conduct linear regressions as well, pretty easy process to run analysis. Never had any issues with SPSS.
Understanding the understandable
What do you like best about the product?
I love how SPSS gives insight to my company on how my customers behave. I can create new strategies for my clients based on data and not on arguments. SPSS gives me the tools to perform complex analysis in minutes, compared on using an open source tool. I also like how the menus and the user interfase works. For someone who has used statistics before its very easy to use (if you know what you´re doing).
What do you dislike about the product?
I dont like that it is too technical. Not everyone understants statistics and how they work. There must be more graphics and more visual dashboards like the two step cluster dashboard. I leally like how i can show the data to my boss on this dashboard. It makes my work easier and faster.
There should be more tools that help me how to discover my data. The discover funciton is just fine, but it could be better.

In my compnay we need to understand how my cliets are alike in order to create new business strategies. SPSS helps me to understand my data in an easier way. Sometimes we need more insight about our customers.

Help menus shoulndt be that complex

What do you like best about the product?
To me, what is best about SPSS is the ease of use (if you know how to use it). The way it takes in all of the numbers and spits out calculations within seconds makes doing any sort of research easy and enjoyable. SPSS has made research, for students, a breeze and a lot less scary. There are tons of video demonstrations out there on the internet that will guide you step by step how to set up and complete an equation.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS statistics can be incredibly confusing at times. When I first opened it up, I was completely lost. If not for my book giving me step by step instructions, I would have gotten nothing done. Some of the important features are buried in tabs that don't make sense. It may take a little time for you to completely get used to. I know that it took me months to finally remember where every equation setup was. This could cause many users to give up early on the software and revert to another.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving the issue of calculating difficult. multi-step math equations. As a student who conducts research, SPSS has given me the opportunity to conduct numerical research with ease. I don't have to take the time to calculate equations by hand, nor do I have to depend on a spreadsheet to put out the results I need.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get a book that will help navigate through you the steps of completing certain equations. This will go a long way.
Taking the stress away from statistics
What do you like best about the product?
I am dyscalculic and struggle to manipulate numbers. This program allows a great deal of the stress I feel manipulating numbers accurately to be alleviated.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have so far encountered nothing in this program that I have a complaint about that isn't related to my own support needs rather than the program itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I would literally no be able to handle the statistical aspects of the course and job role I am currently engaged in without this program. I cannot see why anyone in this day and age would not utilize this instead of personally calculating.

Well worth the effort to learn to use all the functions

It has a user-friendly interface and allows for both GUI- and syntax-driven analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
Despite the option of using syntax, there is little flexibility in implementation of analyses relative to other programs such as R. Also, the code is not open source.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The software crashes frequently even when doing simple tasks such as data entry or reformatting.

Recommended if you are looking for ease of use but not flexibility for more complex analyses.

Complete Statistics Package Without Spending Hours on Coding
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS offer a robust set of analytics packages with a user-friendly drag and drop and approach. It performs everything other packages such as SAS and R without requiring the user to have extensive knowledge in programming.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be tough to find where to change defaults such as the alpha level from .05 to .1.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am solving issues with grouping observations into similar clusters. The two-stage clustering solution as well as the traditional hierarchical and non hierarchical provide strong insights.
There are better alternatives
What do you like best about the product?
There's not much that I like. It is good for people who want to rely on a basic GUI for stats and not have easy customization ability.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is expensive - not feasible unless you work for an organization that is able and willing to purchase it. It's clunky, data has to be in wide format, and it's difficult to customize visualizations efficiently.

I've used it for data analysis and visualization.
