SPSS Statistics
What do you like best about the product?
Very usefull tool that we use at HCA to manage quality outcomes.
What do you dislike about the product?
The software download, Key Center and documentation are located on different parts of IBMs website.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analsysis
Recommendations to others considering the product:
SPSS Stats is a great product.
Works well in our Education Labs
What do you like best about the product?
Straight forward licensing and configuration
What do you dislike about the product?
Needs better configuration around remote and virtual licensing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Higher Ed use in classrooms, labs and research
Statistical analysis in one click!
What do you like best about the product?
I am doing data analysis for my job and I think SPSS is the easiest user-friendliest software I used. I also teach basics of experimental data analysis and students prefer to learn SPSS since it is intuitive and provides all the necessary results/figures.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think it is not suited for large-scale datasets. Might be also hard to modify any data, namely create new variables. It also has only basic statistical methods implemented. For more advanced techniques I have to use the other tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Comparing control and treatment groups and see if the intervention had any statistical impact. I am personally working with Org Design related research hypotheses and use SPSS for analyzing the experimental data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Has great graphical support and immediate output. Suited for small datasets and basic analysis (e.g. T-test).
Very user-friendly, especially for beginners in statistics
What do you like best about the product?
This software offers an easy to use interface where users can point and click to carry out common statistical tests. The help files are very useful for guiding users through the different functions of the software. User support is also excellent!
What do you dislike about the product?
The software doesn’t as easily implement some more advanced statistical tests. Other software, such as R, is becoming more frequently used because of its flexibility and it is open source.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The software has helped me to train new students to run relatively straightforward statistical tests. It has also helped me to analyze data for research purposes.
SPSS is the standard for statistics
What do you like best about the product?
The program’s functionality is limitless. All kinds of charts and analyses can be generated, depending on what type of data you have. The interface is pretty straightforward once you learn your way around the different functions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Data has to be input a specific way to generate the chart or formula you want. Sometimes typing formulas in manually is easier, but it can be testy. Also, it takes a lot of exploring to figure out where certain functions are in the menus. And of course the program itself is so massive that I can only use it on the designated computer at work rather than downloading it for personal use on my own system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides efficient data analysis for large amounts of data, and it already has built in formulae for every type of statistics we use. It’s great for generating visual representations of data for academic writing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you’re trying to do basic analyses on a personal computer, it might be better to stick with excel because of the expense and hard drive space required by SPSS. But it really is the best program if you’re going to be doing substantial work with statistical data.
Makes things easier!
What do you like best about the product?
Makes the use of statistics easy! Takes away human error and allows for quick analysis
What do you dislike about the product?
The layout of the main spreadsheet could use better labeling for consumer use
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes no human error
Learning basic statistical analytical techniques for studying college campus patterns
What do you like best about the product?
The functions of this program, I find, tend to be very user friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
It’s compatablitly with other programs can lead to issues at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Student retention for higher education
When it comes to regressional analysis, IBM is tried and true
What do you like best about the product?
This is the statistical suite I learned on in graduate school. Honestly, I didn't pick it, my professors did. When it came time to purchase a statsitical suite for my private sector role, it was natural that I used the one I was already trained on. Yes, it's expensive (and there are free competitors). But, once you learn how to use it through the GUI, it does everything you need to do.
What do you dislike about the product?
The cost! Oh man, this is expensive. You will need to explain the definitive business need for the software to management. Due to the nature of stats analysis, you may not be SURE you'll add sufficient value to cover the cost. Plan on that!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm a statistician by trade. I can add high end data analysis to any project I undertake. I need a statistical suite like IBM SPSS to do that. I've realized the benefit of advanced stats insights into otherwise really dense and inscrutable data sets.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have a look. IF you can't use R or a similar free non-GUI or GUI-light package, IBM SPSS has a number of nifty tools and quality support.
SPSS is an easy-to-use software for statistics
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is a program that lends itself well to both beginner statisticians and experts in the field. It allows to user to upload large amounts of data and then run many different statistics and create charts for data visualization. I prefer the charts generated by SPSS over that of Excel.
What do you dislike about the product?
The program does not run as quickly as I'd like, and takes some time to process data and run statistics/generate charts. Users may not want to import huge amounts of data at a time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been able to chart frequency distributions of the incidence of disease, such as meningitis, and I have realized the benefits of being able to single out certain variables that may uncover different trends.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider switching from Excel to SPSS.
Neccessary for Data Analysis
What do you like best about the product?
As a social scientist, this is my go to application for analyzing my data. It allows me to run my analyses, and display my results in an appropriate way for the work that I do. I can also customize and organize my data in a way that works best for me, allowing me to do the best research possible for myself.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a bit of a learning curve with SPSS, and there are some extensions you will need to buy or get a code for (i.e., bootstrapping), but outside of that it is a very thorough program. If you are new to the program, there are a plethora of resources available online that will walk you through how to execute what you need to as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With IBM SPSS Statistics, we are able to collect, organize, and analyze data from the research we do in order to make sense of our findings. With SPSS, we are able to run analyses on our data effectively, and in turn present that data with the world.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It does take time to learn to use SPSS in a way that works best for you, but take advantage of the resources IBM gives you, and other resources available online (there are plenty!). If you are in the social sciences and looking to analyze your data, I would highly recommend it.
