SPSS- Big Data
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS makes it easy to perform analyses for large set of data that would be hard to manage in other situations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the logic to get the specific tests you want can be hard to find and installing programs to do additional functions is a pain.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to perform the analyses I have to do in my role. I am able to complete projects faster and more accurately that way.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is a costly software but I feel that it is worth it for completing my job.
Incredible tool
What do you like best about the product?
How fast and efficient it is, and how it can manipulate complex data
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be finicky loading and opening, and looks archaic
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The need to understand data
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take time to get to know the product, it can be confusing since it can do so much
Experience with SPSS
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS makes is easy to work with Excel. You can download your data set you create in SPSS into an excel spreadsheet, or you can upload an excel spreadsheet to use in Excel. This is helpful because it does not limit the data sets that you can work with, and also makes it easier to save progress you have made in exploring your data so that you can hold onto the hard data before you start playing around with it.
What do you dislike about the product?
It definitely takes a while to figure out how exactly to use the software. If I hadn't taken a few classes on how exactly to use it. Even understanding statistics fairly well does not lend simple use of this program, but once you know how to use it you can do so much. I can't imagine there is an easy way to make it easier to use right away, but that would be my only suggestion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS is a huge help in large research projects or really any data analysis. I have used this both in class-related projects for graduate level classes or within the work place running through data analysis. It provides ways to build and save data sets for future use, to visualize the data that we are looking at, and to run different kinds of analysis that programs like Excel cannot do.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Although you are able to teach yourself the program, I would highly suggest finding guides online or even taking a tutorial class on how to use it. When I taught myself the program, there was so many useful aspects that I did not find on my own.
Amazingly quick and no need to set up (online version)
What do you like best about the product?
You can import Excel files and your date is not ruined at all. It is very convenient to use and plus it is free for me since my institution provided me with a free copy of it. When you use it online, you can access to your files from anywhere.
What do you dislike about the product?
The worst feature is that you cannot connect to your desktop on your personal computer when you are using a business online version of it. It needs to be connected to your office computer. So not very convenient and time-efficient in this respect...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have data from groups of students at K-12 level and we analyze their learning pace. This program is a classic! Although I use R, I find SPSS all the time the easiest to use and navigate. Probably it is because I got to using it, but you will come across more people like me who is familiar with this software rather than stuff like R.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just make sure that you save your data before closing a window.
Good for basics
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, pull down menus intuitive, interpretation straight forward. Conducting descriptive statistics easy and output clear. Help videos abundant online. Good for basic evaluation of different types of regression and ANOVA.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nuanced complex evaluations are not as straight forward. Graphing functions are difficult to figure out. Have to manually figure out conditional effects for moderation whereas Process macro already incorporates that analysis. Step by step guides would be helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Moderation, mediation, logistic and probit regressions for business research
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Limited in elegance and manipulation of data
Occasional User of SPSS Statistics
What do you like best about the product?
It's very simple to use in that it has only the necessary tools and no additional clutter.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing! I haven't used SPSS enough to determine if there's anything I don't like.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows users to analyze data statistically, and I have been able to further my research by using it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It has its limitations, but it is very useful!
SPSS: Short, sweet, and simple
What do you like best about the product?
It makes data easy to see and summarize.
What do you dislike about the product?
Has alot of features that I havent used!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are organizing and coding a lot of our data into SPSS, which has made our data a lot more concise and we can use the programs on it to portray our data in different ways, compare different things, chart it different styles, etc.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
save all your data files to reference later, can be a pain to retype the information over and over again
Easier to use online
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to access to my data and projects anywhere since my university provides free access to me. I do like it better than my older version app for SPSS. I think it makes sense to use the online one if you have both a desktop and a laptop.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you want to upload a file, it is harder to do it and sometimes using a cvc type file can create problems in the online SPSS (provided by my university). I guess it is nothing about the version of SPSS which is 23.0 but the connection or just the online environment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It works perfectly for me. It is handy, easy to access and practical when I need my data. I can just connect, stop working on a project and after break or going to somewhere else physically take it from there.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure that you use the online version if you travel a lot.
Easy to use statistical analysis
What do you like best about the product?
It’s very easy to use. Has a range of tests that can be implemented. Recommended for basic science research
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it lags when performing tests or making graphs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I analyze research data. The data ranges from scaled data to nominal and ordinal data
Used SPSS as an undergrad then grad student for 4 years, now moving on
What do you like best about the product?
The clean simple Excel-like layout with classic drop-down menus at the top.
What do you dislike about the product?
In spite of its clean and simple layout, it is not laid out intuitively, and many of the menu options aren't labeled in a way that makes it clear what they do. It's also ridiculously expensive and every researcher I know hates how expensive it is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used SPSS to analyze data from my neuroscience research with animal models as both an undergraduate and a graduate student.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
SAS, R Studio
