SPSS Statistics

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of using the software. It provides a menu that is pretty intuitive in its categories and includes most common tests one performs. There is of course the option to do more than the menu affords.
What do you dislike about the product?
I admit I am not fond of the price, for example compared to R (free & open). However, since it is something I do not pay for personally in the context where I use it, that is less of an issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly analysis of test data in a higher education context, including reliability analysis and graphing. We also use it for more in-depth analysis

Review of SPSS

  • December 22, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The part I like most is having concrete results.
What do you dislike about the product?
The most difficult part of SPSS is analyzing the results.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS for graduate school research. The benefits I have realized are that it's fairly simple to navigate once you have taken a course on it, and you can send files to others and they can work on it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Watch tutorials before trying to use SPSS.

What do you dislike about the product?
The least favorable feature is it's non parametric abilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Usually running ANOVAs and pairwise comparisons, t tests, outliers, and other dasta.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use online guides for help.

What do you like best about the product?
exceptional data tracking and analytics
What do you dislike about the product?
use of the syntax is not very user friendly and takes quite a while to learn
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
it's a great research tool for multiple admins to get the data they need and derive results
Recommendations to others considering the product:
terrific tool for data scientists

SPSS is my life

  • December 20, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is relatively easy to use, and it remembers the tests I have run. with the click of a button on the tool ar, I can rerun those tests without bothering with the menus again. Syntax is also a lifesaver as it speeds up the time I would be spending rerunning analyses.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not as user-friendly as Excel. You cannot manipulate cells or format tables as easily as you can with Excel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It speeds up my data analysis. It is also easy to learn, and easy to problem solve because there are so many youtube tutorials on different SPSS topics. love that i can save my syntax and reise it over and over again.

What do you like best about the product?
Its ability to let you do point-and-click analysis with the option of being able to paste syntax. Helps in learning the syntax.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be quite difficult to use for a novice user. Nonetheless, theres a lot of tutorials.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
None.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Youtube and google instructions on how to run particular syntax.

User Friendly Research Tool

  • December 14, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's user friendly and easy to learn. Great for one has no programming background to use for research projects. Good Tech support person to work with when something goes wrong (not often).
What do you dislike about the product?
Structural equation modeling is not included unless you purchase AMOS. Affordability - It is expensive without any academic discount and you must purchase add-on features more advanced capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use IBM Statistics and IBM SPSS Text Analytical for Surveys for social/education and market research projects.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a good starting/Intro. level software for studnets or anyone who wants to foucs on data analyses.

Great program for social scientists across the board

  • December 14, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that it is a well used software that you can find answers to all over the internet. While it does have a cost, the student cost is reasonable when you buy from a third party seller. I like that you can use the pretty intuitive user interface clicking drop down menu options, but that you can also use syntax to do your analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that you have to buy a new license every year, or up to 3 years depending on your license.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use this for my personal research, my professional work as well as a data/research analyst.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a good software to do all 'basic' statistical analyses this is a great software to go to. You can use it at a pretty basic level, it's quick to learn, or you can learn the syntax and even learn python to use with this software.

Easy to use once you learn the idiosyncrasies

  • December 14, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Nice graphical interface and a fair number of analyses available. The spreadsheet-like data manager is nice to work with for those familiar with Excel etc.. Has the ability to program additional analyses if you've got the chops to do so.
What do you dislike about the product?
Has a fair number of funny little idiosyncrasies, including the variable naming conventions, analytical procedures that aren't always easy to find, and minimal graph building options that can be a little janky to work with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My go-to statistical software package for most of my research projects. Handles most critical things well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Reliable and generally well-accepted by the academic community. Good for most traditional analyses but more complex analyses require either plug-ins or different software packages. I use SPSS, MPlus, RUMM2030, MatLab, and Excel for different functions depending on what I'm doing. Consider your uses carefully before purchasing. Also note that the version iterates every year, so you may find yourself purchasing new versions every year if you always want the most up to date version. Though, for what it's worth, that's rarely necessary as the iterations aren't that dramatic. Has yet to have a good big data analysis mechanism baked in, and the SEM options require the AMOS plug in, and AMOS isn't the most robust SEM program (I use MPlus for that reason). The GUI approach is nice though, you can do most analyses without having to write a piece of code which is great.

great for social and behavior science

  • December 14, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, you don't need to have programming experience
The tutorial video is super useful too
What do you dislike about the product?
Not good for large dataset or repetitive analysis
Can be slow and not much flexibility to get customized results
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For some of my courses with medical students or non-pro analysts
it's a step up compared wot Excel
