does the job but hard to understand at first
What do you like best about the product?
it is easy to use once you understand how the software works. great graphs. very easy to choose what you do and do not want to show up when analyzing data. easy to change data output names for better understanding if your results if you are creating a large number of data outputs all at once.
What do you dislike about the product?
hard to understand when first using the software. not too many tutorials out there on how to use certain parts of this software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
great at analyzing data and learning the different results that can come out of the data inputs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
consider creating a forum for users to better understand how to use the software. it is not clear on how to get from one point to another without having to look it up or take hours learning.
SPSS review
What do you like best about the product?
ease of use - easy to teach in graduate classes
What do you dislike about the product?
updates are not as frequent as SAS/R - cannot analyze as easily and proficient as other software
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data analyzation
Excellent tool for data analysis
What do you like best about the product?
I have been using SPSS for the last 6 years. As a research assistant, this is an ideal tool to import, clean, organize and analyze my data. The graphs are very beautiful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Collaborative offline working is missing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Currently, I am using SPSS to manage my longitudinal study data. The ease of defining and analyzing data is better than other software. Would still prefer to have online collaborative version
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ideal for beginners-
SPSS is solid for social science research
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to use -- not as powerful as R, but not as difficult, either
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface looks like it's from 2007. It is understandably written by people who value function over form, but the e.g., graphing output could be improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Many of the statistical analyses in our lab, and all those I've done, have been with SPSS. It is quick and reasonably simple.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider R for more advanced analyses. For more simple analyses, SPSS should suffice and can even be easier to use in most cases for simple analyses.
The industry standard
What do you like best about the product?
It's easy enough to use, and is the industry standard
What do you dislike about the product?
I hate that they charge extra for basically every statistical method
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for everything from basic to advanced statistical analysis. Many of our clients prefer we use it so we can send them our syntax
Recommendations to others considering the product:
They are overpriced and you have to pay extra for customer support
S is for SPSS!
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is a great statistical analysis package that allows you to clean and code data with ease.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the point and click features, SPSS would be better if it were code based.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS allows me to organize and run models predicting access to health care.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is good for beginners, but I recommend a different package for more advanced projects.
Helpful Once You Get the Hang of It
What do you like best about the product?
It does all of the heavy lifting for research-related tasks
What do you dislike about the product?
It is difficult to navigate when you first begin to use it
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to do a bulk of research data analysis in a small amount of time=efficiency
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look into how-to videos that can educate you how to use various features.
Perhaps the best GUI stats suite for beginners available today
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS offers powerful functionality for virtually any statistical operation one needs (at least in my field, the social sciences). There's also tremendous and versatile online support from both IBM themselves and others who have created helpful walkthroughs for performing various statistical analyses. The output also looks nice and is fairly customizable.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface isn't very intuitive at all, and is mostly just a bunch of dropdown menus with little direction. Bottom line: You really need to know about stats before you use this software. However, because it is the leading GUI stats software, there is abundant documentation for this software both from IBM and from universities and others that detail how to do various operations (and interpret the output).
I also feel that this software is prohibitively expensive for an individual who just needs basic stats, and there are a lot of very nice free statistical analysis tools available for the basics.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SPSS in our Linguistics Lab primarily for statistical analyses of social sciences data, especially related to Sociolinguistics and Teaching English as a Second Language.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you already know about statistical tests - which to choose, how to run them, and what they mean - this is an outstanding basic statistical suite. I feel that it's prohibitively expensive for an individual unless you're really doing a huge amount of complex stats, but for a university or other institution, this is a nice tool.
Easy to Use; Limited Functionality for Complex Statistics
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is functional as s a point-and-click application; within the parameters of the application, statistical analyses are intuitive and easily accessible.
What do you dislike about the product?
Limited statistical flexibility beyond basic analyses. Syntax scripting provides a workaround, but coding less intuitive within SPSS framework. SPSS is also pricier than competing applications, and graph output is difficult to tailor. Data saved in SPSS is difficult to migrate, as files are not always compatible with other analysis programs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS primarily for statistical analyses.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
SPSS runs basic statistical analyses effectively and cleanly. For more complicated analytics and/or creation of graphs and tables, other programs may be more efficient.
Excellent for statistics
What do you like best about the product?
The user interface and the ease of use makes it the best
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing much. Its pretty much user friendly
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its very useful for the statistics purpose. User friendly nature helps reduce the time to operate.
