Reliable and functional data analysis
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is user-friendly and easy to learn. You don't have to learn a special 'language' to use SPSS, and it requires minimal learning time to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The statistical analyses may not be as in-depth as other statistical software, and SPSS is not seen as the most rigorous or accurate software by the scientific community.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS hasn't solved any business problems for me, but it does make data analysis easy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure that SPSS meets that standards of your target community/audience.
Necessary tool for data analysis
What do you like best about the product?
User friendly functioning and available resources that provide step by step guides like textbooks by Andy Fields.
What do you dislike about the product?
The fact that our licenses expire twice a year,l and that there's a lag between when it expires and when It gets updated. Typically happens right when I need it. but that's probably more of an internal issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Answering a variety of research questions in the area of sport psych
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Necessary for work in higher education
great for analyzing data
What do you like best about the product?
drop down menu commands can be pasted directly into syntax, which can be saved and annotated.
What do you dislike about the product?
doesn't do more advanced modeling as easily
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
basic research--i.e., analyzing participant data from survey and lab studies
Recommendations to others considering the product:
always save syntax
Surveying Data
What do you like best about the product?
It is probably the most user friendly statistical software.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the weight function within SPSS. Many people assume that they are probability (survey) weights. If you treat them as such, you'll get the wrong answer. It seems to be very easy to mess up with errors using SPSS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Research coding and analytics.
SPSS fairly easy
What do you like best about the product?
I like the interface, Pretty easy to come up with necessary stats
What do you dislike about the product?
Crosstabs don't have as many options as i would prefer
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
digging deeper to find relationships that drive behavior
Necessary resource
What do you like best about the product?
Once you understand how to use it, it is quick and simple. Includes the basics of what I need. I rely on it when analyzing statistics for research
What do you dislike about the product?
Not terribly user friendly. I wish inputting data was faster. I wish it had modeling capabilities.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am a professor and use it for quantitative research. I also teach it to my students has a necessary tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is more popular than SAS and so I recommend it to all young researchers. YouTube has some very helpful tutorials if you get stuck, and there are a number of well written research methods/statistics textbooks that incorporate SPSS.
One of the standard statistical packages, so you might as well get started
What do you like best about the product?
Not much changes from iteration to iteration of IBM SPSS Statistics, so if you learn it once, you won't need to (re)learn too much for any newer version.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's ugly. Really ugly. Not always intuitive how to get some basic descriptive statistics. Support for it is garbage.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Needed statistical analysis. It's usually most useful when someone else is already using SPSS Statistics for a data set, in which case I can just use what they share with me in the same software, instead of trying to get something to work in R.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go check out R. Maybe you want that, instead. And it's free...
SPSS for statistics in research setting
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is easy to use for basic statistical functions. The output is very clean and easy to interpret. I primarily use SPSS for data cleaning as it is really easy to recode, rename, and compute new variables.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS syntax is very bulky. SPSS is not very customizable and I find it difficult to perform advanced functions or to write customized code.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SPSS to conduct basic statistics in our research.
SPSS has helped me analyze quantitative data
What do you like best about the product?
the organization of SPSS' functions. it is clear which function to choose when comparing variables in the system
What do you dislike about the product?
sometimes there are too many options. I'm unsure what statistical test to run and some of the tests are too similar to each other
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
able to analyze data in order to show results
Great software for stats
What do you like best about the product?
Efficient and quick; easy to use once comfortable with software; great for both simple and advanced statistical analyses
What do you dislike about the product?
not very intuitive upon first use and can be cumbersome to navigate functions
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analysis for research studies; very useful in computing statistics quickly for large data sets
