What do you like best about the product?
user friendly. able to go back and forth between window based point-and-click and syntax modes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some inflexibility - there are more complicated models that SPSS can't do. Merging files the process is not intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Statistical analyses for psychology research.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Good if you don't have a programming background. Not great for longitudinal analyses, path analyses, SEM, etc.

IBM SPSS best for beginners

  • July 25, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The GUI makes SPSS very easy to use and its widespread use also means there are a lot of tutorials online for beginners or for analyses with which one may be unfamiliar.
What do you dislike about the product?
Using syntax in SPSS can be very frustrating. Unlike many other languages, SPSS syntax is very unforgiving - a comma or extra space can ruin your entire line of code.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data merging is easy in SPSS. It is also easy to export data into different formats where it may be easier to work with.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This tool is great for beginning data analyses and running statistical analyses -especially those more complicated.

SPSS

  • July 21, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like it's accessibility, and how easy it is to understand the layout, especially as someone who had to learn how to use SPSS on the fly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish, for each analysis tool, there was a description of what it's used for on hand. Almost like there was a code book of some sort for it, to help people just getting started. Tutorials would also be helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are analyzing behavioral data from weight loss studies. One of the best parts of SPSS are the plethora of visual representations of data you can use. The graphs are crucial for communicating significance and descriptive statistics.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Save copies of everything before merging or changing data. It's extremely difficult to "Command Z", or undo, changes using SPSS.
