What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's point and click--no need to know cdoe
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not good for large datasets or trying to manage a dataset--SAS is better for this because it creates temp files without overriding the current dataset
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are trying to answer research questions--helps us identify group differences and statistically significant findings.

Ease of data entry, recognition internationally and in statistics/social science fields.
What do you dislike about the product?
Clunkiness of creating charts and exporting data to microsoft word and other applications.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are trying to find out what leads students to choose a major and to market more effectively to those students.

SPSS is a good program for simple statistics and analyses

  • July 12, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is very user friendly. For those who are not great at coding or don't want to learn a specific language, this program is for one. You can use the menu option. However, if you want to learn a language, the program also allows you to do that!
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not good for more advanced analyses. If you want to do more in-depth or intense statistics, it is not easy to figure out. Some settings (referent groups) aren't able to be changed unless you know the coding.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use this program to write research reports and to how our data. This helps us with keeping grant funding, as well as publishing papers and disseminating research findings.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This program is good for simple statistical analysis, but if you want to do anything in-depth, I would recommend different programs. It seems that programs/students that are not in the hard sciences often use this program. It is easy to use, you don't need to learn the coding language, and it is simple to click around and figure things out. It also is great for building a dataset, especially for those wanting to learn how to do so. I recommend this product, but again, it is not great for more advanced stuff.

Extensive features for extensive training

  • July 11, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Common statistical software so we can work with collaborators at other institutions. Standard import/export functions well with electronic data capture tools that provide SPSS as an export format. Able to perform complex analysis and between different data sets.
What do you dislike about the product?
Difficult to grasp for entry level workers. In research most of our analysis is done by research assistants which most have minimal knowledge on this program and it's not very intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a healthcare research group we are able to analyze large sets of data that contain protected health information since we own the instance and it's not on a cloud.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Extremely advanced and well utilized software with great security features.

SPSS Review

  • July 11, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is pretty user friendly, easy to learn, and has all the functions I need at my level in psychology research. The layout is clean and has most of the basic functionalities available in the program's various dropdown menus. I like the program's ability to write and modify your own syntax.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS can often get bogged down doing something as simple as selecting, deleting, or copying big chunks of data. Sometimes I'll have to close the program and restart it. This has been a common complaint among colleagues using the program.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SPSS to crunch large datasets for research and clinical purposes at an anxiety clinic. The program has helped us see trends and other useful information utilizing various statistical analyses.

Statistics software that's easy to use

  • June 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that SPSS is easy to use but also allows users to compute more advanced statistics utilizing the sytnax options. These syntax options allow you to contribute to science by sharing what you've done. Also, this allows you to better understand how the software works and replicate your analyses for the future.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS does not have a good graphing or chart building platform. Also, SPSS is much more expensive than other statistical softwares. While SPSS makes statistics easy, there are growing platforms that are free of charge and have great resources for trouble shooting issues that arise.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS to analyze data collected for research projects, mostly for my academic program's benchmarks (theses and dissertation). I've been able to compute parametric and nonparametric analyses with ease using SPSS. The benefits I've realized are basically being able to I have been publish my results in decent journals.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
SPSS is the current standard in statistical computing but may be forced to adjust due to lower price, more flexible platforms. It's still one of the best on the market though. SPSS gives you the option to paste your scripts. I recommend doing this because it allows you to track your analyses and potentially share what you've done with other researchers attempting the same kind of computations.
