SPSS is powerful and user-friendly
What do you like best about the product?
The best feature of SPSS is the translational nature of the GUI (graphical user interface) to the more abstract syntax. Also the fact that statistical powerhouses like Andrew Hayes have made syntax/macro applications available to all.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes I wish that it were easier to see multiple windows organized cleanly at once; for example, I would like to be able to press "paste" in the GUI and see the pasted syntax easily while still using the GUI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS to analyze complex data for grant-funded projects.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Taking a statistics course that uses IBM SPSS Statistics is a good way to improve your knowledge about the program. Also, I have found the Laerd Statistics online resources to be useful. The best way to get better using SPSS is to practice.
Good software for doing descriptive statistics
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use for small data sets that can be uploaded - great graphics and easy to use
What do you dislike about the product?
It does not have the flexibility like SAS for data manipulation and large databases.

I use it for creating graphs and descriptives

I have used it as a stand alone product, not used for complex databases. Easy to do descriptive analysis and great graphical package
Decent Program for Research
What do you like best about the product?
Intuitive and easy to use. Is great for importing data and managing/manipulating data and variables. It is great for organization of data at a level that exceeds excel.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be slow at times. Sometimes figuring out how to solve error codes are confusing. Is good for basic analysis, but not complex ones. When compared to charts in excel, they don't look as professional/presentation worthy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS for data analysis for a medical research project I am currently working on.
Adequate for basic statistical calculations.

The visualization tools (charts, graphs etc) are not great.

Doing stats with R is better, and the visualization is easier.
Great Program for Quantitative Research
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is a useful tool for those just starting out in data analysis. The user interface is easy, it is different from others but very intuitive once you are used to it.
What do you dislike about the product?
The charts in SPSS are not as intricate and aesthetically pleasing as the ones you can create in excel. The different versions are not always compatible. For example, on my laptop, I had an older version and on my desktop, a newer version. My files did not transfer over well from version to version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The business problems I solved with SPSS pertains to marketing research. Using SPSS helps determine how our consumers perceived our brand, based on survey results. This helps with positioning and identifying our target market. Using SPSS helped determine the price of our product, the placement as well as how we will promote it.

I used SPSS paired with Qualtrics and the integration was seamless.

There are many options for handling and manipulating data, some functions are made very simple with just a couple clicks, there are many helpful tutorials

Some functions are not intuitively grouped

In research we use SPSS heavily to answer research questions. This allows more people to participate in data research instead of using a command line program

Point and click analysis is more user friendly than R, which requires an understanding of writing R code

Does not handle layered text well. Also, I wish Modeler was implemented in SPSS rather than a separate program and fee.

The charts you can build with SPSS are nowhere near as pretty as those I can make in Excel

I use SPSS to analyze data that will ultimately go into peer-reviewed publications. It fits all of my needs in this area.

SPSS Review
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is very user-friendly when using menu options. The book that goes along with it is helpful for using syntax.
What do you dislike about the product?
It requires some processing power and sometimes does not work on my laptop. Needs better training manuals for new students who have never used SPSS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SPSS to analyze data from our research projects. We do not solve "business problems" but have never had issues even with rather complicated quantitative analysis.
