Very user friendly if you know what you are doing

What do you like best about the product?
I like that the reports generated are very clear and summarize the information. If you know what buttons to press, the graphs and tables are very attractive and easy to present.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it is hard to know whether you are running the correct statistical test. It is for sure a program that you need a reference guide to make the correct assumptions. There is not idiot proof filter. It is very easy to generate results that look good, but they don't mean what you think they mean.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using it in research and analyzing data. I have just learned about statistical processes in my classes and it is amazing how easy it is to get results with so much meaning by just a few steps and formatting the data correctly. I love that I can upload my data directly from Excel. It saves a ton of time in data entry.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have a good user manual or somebody who knows what they are talking about.

User Friendly

What do you like best about the product?
It is a very intuitive software. It runs a lot of statistical test that we ussualy need as a researcher.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some extensions only run in Windows, for example, AMOS, for Structural Equation Modeling. This extension only works using Windows...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Research in general. At this moment I am running my PhD dissertation data. It is a fast software as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a very user-friendly statistic software. Very intuitive. You can use AMOS (for Structural Equation Modeling) in it, as an extension (but only in Windows)

What do you like best about the product?
I have used this software for statistical analysis. It is very user friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the price of the software. It is too expensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS has allowed me to run a variety of statistics with easy-to-understand guides and tutorials.

Expensive but it is useful for someone who is not entirely stats savvy

What do you like best about the product?
One of the best/worst features of SPSS is that you could run a statistical analysis without knowing the equations. As someone in (sort of) humanities, this software helped me a lot because I did not have to write my own code. However, you may find it problematic if you have some solid understanding of math.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing is such a pain. Every year, the software costs about $200. This is not very accessible to the graduate students.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I need to run some analyses for my research in social science/humanities. Also, it's click-click-click. The students with zero math background can run their own analyses, too!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It could be made a bit more user-friendly and visually appealing. The entire software just reminds me of an old windows software.

Great for crosstabs

  • May 11, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I use this to run crosstabs to compare populations, for example, males and females. I was previously doing this in Excel, but this is much faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can't use spreadsheet type tools to adjust columns
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data cuts

Very effective

What do you like best about the product?
Once you're familiar with the program, it is consistent and easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be difficult to acclimate to if not familiar with statistics software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SPSS for all of our statistics. It's a tried and true program.

Good - with some issues

What do you like best about the product?
The newer features that have been developed over the last year or so.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not often as user friendly; new students using this typically have many issues or concerns.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Program evaluations.

SPSS review

  • May 09, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is easy to use. I like the point and click interface, but also the ability to use and save syntax.
What do you dislike about the product?
No modeling capabilities (SEM). Syntax for multilevel analyses is confusing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I do most of my data analysis, particularly screening and cleaning with SPSS. Benefits are as stated above. In addition, most people that I work with also have experience with SPSS.

Graduate Student Using SPSS

  • May 05, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Comprehensive toolbox for complex statistical analyses allowing multiple slightly tweaked versions of analyses that can then be compared.
What do you dislike about the product?
When a syntax error occurs information on what the error was and where it occurred and how to fix it (i.e. showing an example) could be more informative. When entering a categorical variable referring to frequency of a behavior that is coded as a number, sometimes the SPSS cell "assumes" and changes it to the wrong answer. For example: How often in the past 28 days have you eaten a meal cooked by other people: "No Days"-0, "1-5 Days"-1, "6-11"-2, "12-17"-3, "18-23"-4, "24-28"-5. In an example like this if the respondent selected "6-11" the data entry person would simply hit "2" which has been known to automatically convert the answer to "24-28" or "5" because of the "2" that they have in common.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We do not use IBM SPSS in a business setting. Our use of IBM SPSS allows for analysis of variables ranging from clinical outcome indicators to personality and psychometric measures and their many contributing factors.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try to find a reliable source for video tutorials as once you begin data analysis the different caveats needed for your syntax and which boxes to check when creating an analysis are not always intuitive.

Great statistics software! Easy to use for data analysis!

  • May 04, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My favorite part of SPSS is how easy it is to use. I also like how you can analyze data quickly and easily learn how to use the software online or through taking a statistics class. I have used other statistics software packages, and this one is the best as far as being user friendly and can be used by people with a range of statistics skills and knowledge.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can cause your computer to run slowly, so you have to be careful when you are running other programs in the background. This can cause your computer to freeze if you are not careful and can cause work to be deleted before you have a chance to save it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primarily, I use SPSS for data analysis. As an evaluation coordinator, it helps analyze data and run reports in order to see how effective our program actually is. It can also help you code data for analysis, and you can save all of the work you are doing in SPSS.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend trying the trial version if you have never used SPSS before to ensure it meets your needs. I would also recommend taking time to understand the functionality of the software. There are great tutorials on the web!
