What do you like best about the product?
Weighting capabilities
drag and drop
integrated into other systems I use
What do you dislike about the product?
The weighting capabilities -- the system hasn't kept up with the times. I would prefer to be able to say "20% male/80% female" and "30% under 50 years of age and 20% 50-69 years of age and 50% 60 and older"
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ensuring that the data we view from online research mirrors the offline proportions
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Test it with several different and complex data sets before buying.
Customer Service is non-existent...I've been switched to so many people that I've given up keeping track

What do you like best about the product?
Good for point and click functionality for colleagues who are scared of using command-line interface. Data management is easy. Easy to create tables, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
limited functionality with some analyses
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
research on educational outcomes

SPSS for academic research

  • January 24, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I use SPSS because it is a user friendly interface for statistical analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
Extremely large data sets sometimes pose problems and could have better graphing capabilities. I have to use two separate softwares to graph and run stats
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work on environmental research and coastal conservation through field experiments and monitoring

What do you like best about the product?
Intuitive buttons make it easy to use and navigate
What do you dislike about the product?
Some functions are hidden, and it would be nice if it was clearer what all available functions exist
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS for quick data runs to instantly find answers to questions about my data set

The Go To For Researchers

  • January 23, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's so simple to use. No more do you have to rely on the old-fashioned syntax method of data analysis...it takes just a few minutes to get up and running and has a fairly user friendly interface. It's my "go to" research tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's really expensive! My business currently pays for the product, however, when I was in graduate school, I wanted to use it, but the cost made it unable for me to do so.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Typically, I use SPSS for running quick data cuts that I don't want to bother my tabulation subcontractor with. It's great for "quick and dirty" results (e.g. I just need to pull a few numbers).

Easy to use software for analysis

  • January 23, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like having the option of the point-and-click interface or the syntax window.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is very slow to open on my computer and sometimes freezes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is helping us keep up with our data more efficiently. I started out using point and click and have gradually picked up the syntax language.

SPSS its the job done

  • January 23, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is great for beginners and more advanced users. It provides various ways to accomplish the same functions from syntax to dropdown menus. It's also an industry standard and quite compatible with other software programs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The outputs aren't as accessible for copying and pasting into excel as say Stata. The graphs, while useful, are also not nice enough to be able to use in a presentation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS to analyze the data we are constantly collecting from surveys. With the analyses I run, we are able to educate ourselves about issues beyond anecdotal observations.

An Industry Standard

  • January 20, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
While there are many good statistical packages, SPSS is the only one in which it is easy to edit the data or variable properties in the data view. It is also my favorite software to use when I need to merge data files or generate aggregate variables. Data manipulation is the strong suit of SPSS. The other feature of SPSS that stands out in comparison to other packages is the color coded syntax files that make it very easy to catch and correct errors in your code. Another feature that I use all the time, that other software lacks, is the ability to import and export data in a wide variety of data formats. It's often easier to import a text file into SPSS and export it to Stata than it is to import the text file directly into Stata. For me, SPSS is an indispensable tool for managing data, whether or not I use it for the analysis.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS is not capable of structural equation modeling without a separate purchase of additional software licenses (AMOS). It is also a bit more difficult to generate post-estimation variables, relative to Stata. SPSS is good for simple analyses like the various forms of regression, but it can be tricky to run diagnostics on more advanced procedures or multiple-step analyses.

SPSS also falls a bit short on the intelligibility of error codes; they can be pretty cryptic sometimes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS is very useful for helping us to analyze and visualize the data that we collect every day. Data isn't useful unless you can understand the story it tells, and SPSS is generally a good way to decipher the 0s and 1s into something that you can base a decision on.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The biggest thing to consider when choosing a software package for a business organization is the personal preferences of the people who will be using it. Some analysts work only in SAS or R, others are fluent in Stata, and others in SPSS. You can't force an entire department to write in only one language. People who know SPSS will want to continue using it, and it's a good investment for your business to make sure your analysts can do their job comfortably.

A One Stop Solution for All Your Data Analysis needs

  • January 19, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Having almost every statistical inference in one program, SPSS is a must for any body remotely related to research
What do you dislike about the product?
While the program is thorough, it does take some actual time getting the hang of it and even then its not the most userfriendly program to use
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Im in medical research so this program makes it easy to do most quantitacve and qualitative analysis and then copy results on to an excel sheet.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would definitely recommend most research professionals to use this but I would recommend getting hands on lessons before starting to independently use it.
