Good solid statistical analysis tool
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is a solid statistical tool that has kept up with the times. I started using the solution around 1990 and it has been very useful when I needed statistical analysis breakdowns of data.
What do you dislike about the product?
Could use better web interface and the integration of the suite could be a little easier to use
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Detailed analysis of large data sets and merging multiple large data sets together to come up with unique and interesting conclusions
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get training from friends and colleagues -- especially on the more advanced aspects of the software.
Try to use canned reporting first before you venture out on your own
Try to use canned reporting first before you venture out on your own
Useful data, not always user friendly
What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is great for managing and analyzing large volumes of data.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is difficult for some users with lower technology proficiency.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used it in a research grant in the healthcare industry.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Have an "expert" on your team to help others
Useful tool for basic analysis
What do you like best about the product?
It is very easy to use. I particularly like that it is something that can be self-taught. You can also use syntax or drop pull down menus depending on your personal preferences. Also, it is useful to be able to create visuals (tables and charts) directly in the program.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some limitations in terms of the types of analyses that you can conduct.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS is used for marketing research projects to help answer potential research questions. Specifically it is helpful in looking at differences across and within groups.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is good as a basic software, but you can do more sophisticated analyses with other software.
Easy to Use and Powerful
What do you like best about the product?
I love how powerful SPSS is, I am able to do analysis quickly and easily. It allows for both complex and simple analysis. I like that it uses menus to walk you through the analysis selections but that you can also use the programming language when you need to do analysis in bulk.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not always clear what the inputs should be for each type of test while you are in the platform or even through the robust help section. I also wish it was more explicit if the test helps to validate the bull hypothesis or not. I don't use statistics all the time, and would love if I didn't need to refresh myself through external resources each time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SPSS to test whether or not I am seeing significant differences within the population of survey data. SPSS helps me make strategic business recommendations.
Useful software for data analysis
What do you like best about the product?
Provides relatively easy to learn data analysis tools for qualitative analysis, descriptive statistics, etc
What do you dislike about the product?
Can often be difficult to teach to new learners, expensive software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use this software to make changes and strengthen responses to social problems based on accurate data analysis.
User friendly Statistical package
What do you like best about the product?
I love how it is designed use friendly, and the Syntax function is very useful. You can play with various types of variables and run statistical tests with your data. And when writing syntax, you don't have to know every single codes, spss will do it for you.
What do you dislike about the product?
Compared to SAS, spss can make less changes to your data. If you want to split your data or do a complex data merging, you will have to use SAS or Marlab.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS statistics is a very useful research tool. I used it and am using it when running correlation/covariance among sifferent variables.
Powerful, but difficult to use
What do you like best about the product?
You can do almost any statistical test you'd need for science. I mostly use ANOVAs and descriptive statistics, but there's lots more capability of the software that I haven't tried yet.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be difficult to use, especially for a newbie. I find the integration with Excel to be clunky, which is tough because I like to use the power of Excel's formulas before dumping my data into SPSS for statistical tests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We do neuroscience research and teaching. I need SPSS to do the statistics needed to compare samples and find meaningful differences.
SPSS - An essential tool for every researcher
What do you like best about the product?
I love the ubiquity of SPSS, meaning that as long you surround yourself with other researchers, you will always encounter someone who uses SPSS. Resources are also easily found online, which is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike some of the complexity surrounding SPSS. It's a magnificent tool for performing statistical analyses, but sometimes requires too many steps for performing something simpler.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS allows us to analyse the survey data we collect year round.
Provides great statistical analyses services
What do you like best about the product?
I've used SAS before for statistically testing and have found that SPSS is more user-friendly for various statistical tasks that I've used in my graduate work. I have used it for my master's thesis and am currently using it for my doctoral dissertation. The help tutorials are also very helpful and I like how easy it is to run testing and to interpret the data tables. The fact that the charts and results can also be exported to Word is great as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't dislike anything so far. It's pretty straightforward as a software, and the userface has improved throughout the years.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using the software to do various statistical testing on data collected. The ease of inputting data is very great as it can be transferred from Excel documents as well. No further coding is necessary and it makes it easy.
Very impressive capabilities, usability needs work
What do you like best about the product?
Its capabilities are impressive. Stat analysis on nearly everything and almost immediately. Great import/export functionality.
What do you dislike about the product?
Very tricky to manipulate data sets, reorder, etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Market research and analysis
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Organize your data sets before importing because it becomes a massive pain in the butt to have to manually drag variables down the list. There's no "move to bottom/top" function which would make things MUCH easier. And I get nervous cut/pasting thousands of responses.
