SPSS moving to be more about Business Analytics

  • August 26, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SPSS is very easy to use. This is likely based in their Social Science roots. It has a very powerful syntax language, and has an easy to use implementation of SEM and advanced modelling with Amos.
What do you dislike about the product?
They are moving away from being supportive of the Social Sciences. Still a great product for this, but their increases in pricing take away accessibility for many students. Their old student offerings were fantastic, but are now too expensive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used SPSS all throughout my education and we now use it as the main teaching package in our department.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If pricing is becoming an issue and you need more features geared towards academic and social science research, consider Stata

solid product

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
it's very user-friendly -- the drop-down menus for tests etc are useful and very straight forward.
What do you dislike about the product?
it would be good if the code aspect was a little easier to use and more readily available. Also, it would be useful if it were easier to search for tests run and edit data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
i do a lot of statistical analyses, it's very good for people who don't know how to use different methods for statistical analysis
Recommendations to others considering the product:
it's definitely user-friendly

What everyone uses, so get used to it

  • August 03, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's the standard in the industry, so I like that knowing the software translates across the industry. I also like the easy integration with microsoft programming
What do you dislike about the product?
User friendliness is somewhat lacking, occasionally glitchy
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We leverage SPSS statistics to analyze our retail trends as well as a predictive measure of future innovation success dependent on research inputs

SPSS, nicer graphics, good for click commands

  • August 01, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the graphics in SPSS. The graphs look nice and are easy to manipulate, making it much easier to switch an axis or variable by using the graphing menu instead of re-writing the syntax. It is easier to "guess and check" rather than looking up the correct syntax to type to make a switch. I also like the point and click analysis features, you don't have to remember specific syntax language to get the commands.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike how easy it is to change a dataset. Although I understand that the ease of changing an error is a tempting feature, I think it is much easier to make accidental mistakes in your data since it is so easily available to change. One click and a data point goes away! While in other software, you have to write something deliberately to change the dataset you are working with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
health services research questions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Psychologists use this product a lot, so if you are heading in the psychology field, get some experience with this software! Also beware of human error in changing the data, try not to make quick edits to the dataset unless you need to and document it elsewhere!

Great statistic software

  • July 21, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
friendly-user software. Figures look great!
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it's not easy to write codes. It should be better to have SAS book with you which will be very helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am analyzing health data with this software and it helps me a lot with dealing with non parametric data analysis.

SPSS gets the job done

  • July 19, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that you can do all of your necessary tests such as chi-square, t-tests, etc, and everything is very clean and directed towards a good useful output.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that it is difficult to use until you can comprehend the concepts but then again, it is statistics. Any statistics software is going to be hard. Also you can't format the text in it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I tutor for statistics so I have been asked to use SPSS, STATA, Excel, etc. I like SPSS the best. I have used it for Masters of Public Administration and Doctorate of Nursing Practice students.

Point and click statistics but too expensive

  • July 13, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SPSS still has one of the best interfaces for statistics. The spreadsheet data entry forms are easy to use with Excel experience and the point and click nature of running analysis is easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
SPSS is too expensive and too limited. The core program is barely updated and is still missing tests through the point and click interface that can be performed through scripting. Ever since IBM bought the company, I feel they have put little effort in expanding it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SPSS is good at data analysis and is simple enough to teach to others.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
R, SAS, Minitab

Excellent for project data analytics.

  • July 12, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The functionality and navigation of the different analytical operations is one of the greatest attractions to SPSS. Additionally, there are multiple sources of training, on-going education, and upgrades that come up for the program to help increase its ease and efficiency.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think there is room for improvement with some of the reporting options, especially for an individual who likes to work from the Syntax view. There are certain elements that have been useful from other similar software packages that would be nice to see implemented with the next version of SPSS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The greatest benefit is the ease of running data analytics. If you are needing just a quick understanding of your descriptive(s) for your data, it is done with just a few clicks in the navigation drop-downs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Keep looking for additional upgrades to be made for the reporting perspectives, and as the work of data analytics continue to develop.

Same as it ever was

  • July 06, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Powerful statistical analysis tool driven by menus, with the capability of using syntax to access more complex features. Backward compatible for years. Improved graphical capabilities in the more recent versions. Continually adding new analyses and data transformation capabilities. Easy to learn with lots of existing documentation.
What do you dislike about the product?
A new release every year, EXPENSIVE, and, well, same as it ever was. They are currently on version 23 and I have manuals from version 17 that are still completely accurate. This leaves the interface looking outdated. While the graphical capabilities are improving, they are phenomenal and pale in comparison to other tools such as Tableau.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Statistical analysis of research data, data management and transformation.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you know it, then its great. If you want/need a point and click statistical tool, it is one of the best.

The New SpSS is AMAZING

  • June 25, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have been using SPSS for almost 20 years. It is amazing! The newest features enable anybody to quickly organize data inputs and analyze with a few flick of the keys.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it was easier to check for errors for large data sets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used this more for research rather than business at this point. However, I was analyzing opinion trends.
