Securing the Modern Enterprise: A Deep Dive into Zscaler Internet Access

  • June 05, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Zscaler Internet Access is how streamlined and scalable the implementation process is, especially in distributed or hybrid environments. As an implementation engineer, I appreciate how ZIA eliminates the complexity of deploying and managing traditional security appliances by shifting to a cloud-native, proxy-based model.
What do you dislike about the product?
Policy evaluation order (URL & Cloud App Control vs. Firewall vs. DLP) can be non-intuitive for new admins; mis-sequenced rules sometimes produce “shadowed” policies that look correct in the portal but never hit in practice.Log retention in the portal tops out at 30 days unless you stream to external SIEM/Splunk, which adds extra lift and cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) solves the challenge of securing user internet traffic without relying on traditional perimeter-based security.

It provides cloud-delivered protection against web threats, data loss, and unauthorized access—regardless of user location—by enforcing consistent security policies across remote and on-site users.

As an implementation engineer, this benefits me by simplifying deployments, reducing the need for complex hardware setups, and enabling faster rollouts with centralized policy management. It also enhances visibility and control while supporting Zero Trust architecture, which aligns with modern security needs.

  • June 03, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
You can control everything, but above all protect my internet equipment by applying private or public network, security profiles and constant updating.
What do you dislike about the product?
It must manage 2 consoles to manage the equipment and profiles and its URL classification process is very ambiguous, it should be improved considerably.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Secure browsing against cybercriminals
Web filtering and protection
Secure network and extended firewall
Sambox
Y DLP
This gives greater security to my equipment and employees.

What do you like best about the product?
Cloud native architecture is best
Basically zia is fully cloud -deliverd , which means no backhauling traffic to data centres.
What do you dislike about the product?
Zscaler Internet Access can be great for security, but sometimes the aggressive filtering can be a bit overbearing, leading to unnecessary blocks and slowdowns, especially on high-traffic days
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For preventing non relevant sites which are not required for business purposes

  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Zscaler Internet Access primarily for securing internet-bound traffic. It serves as a secure web gateway that enables data loss prevention and protects peer-to-peer communications traffic. It also helps in path selection and delivering a good internet access experience. We have widely implemented it for securing third-party communications and optimizing traffic paths.

What is most valuable?

Some of the most valuable features of Zscaler Internet Access include secure web gateways, URL filtering, data loss prevention, anti-malware defense, file extension blocking, and a comprehensive categorization system. It provides a tool to understand our security risk posture and offers actionable feedback to tighten controls. It also provides enhanced inspection capabilities, including SSL decryption, while maintaining compliance with organizational security policies. Its cloud-native proxy architecture ensures high availability and resilience, even in challenging regions like China.

What needs improvement?

Further integrations could enhance Zscaler Internet Access, especially with EDRs and antivirus solutions. Other vendors offer more out-of-box integrations. Additionally, the response time and engagement model for technical support could be improved to handle complex outages more efficiently.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Zscaler Internet Access since 2013 or 2014.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The deployment of Zscaler Internet Access is straightforward. Professional services and assigned security engineers provide guidance, making the migration process efficient. For some clients, the deployment was completed within seven days, while others, due to complex requirements, took up to one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Zscaler Internet Access is stable and capable of building resilient architectures. Failover scenarios are well-managed, and performance monitoring tools provide transparent and helpful insights.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Zscaler Internet Access is scalable and has points of presence across the globe to ensure low latency and reliable connections. Its proxy architecture supports extensive connectivity requirements.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support for Zscaler Internet Access is rated around seven out of ten due to some response time issues and the engagement model. While it doesn’t match Palo Alto's support, it remains relatively reliable.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before using Zscaler, we utilized Blue Coat proxies, which required hardware form factors, resulting in cumbersome processes for mergers, acquisitions, and expansions. Moving to Zscaler Internet Access supported our shift to a cloud-first model, addressing scalability requirements without the need for additional hardware.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward, as professional services provided guidance, making the process efficient and well-managed.

What about the implementation team?

Professional services include security engineers or architects who guide the deployment, ensuring a smooth transition.

What was our ROI?

The managed service aspect of Zscaler Internet Access has allowed for reduced staffing costs, resulting in a saving of approximately 20-25% compared to prior expenses. This is largely due to decreased manpower and the elimination of the need to manage underlying infrastructure.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Zscaler Internet Access is less expensive than competitors like Palo Alto, offering a premium service justified by security enhancements and cost-effective scalability. The pricing makes sense given the managed service offerings and effective security posture.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Zscaler Internet Access as an eight out of ten. It offers great scalability, stability, and operational resilience. Its global presence ensures security enforcement is close to the user, providing ease of management and onboarding.
