APM prepared for the future

  • December 18, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like best is the capabality of following all user actions across all monitored infrastructure, and even to systems not monitored, but interconnected. I also like the AI capability. I have seen some of it's capability in production environments, and it's pretty impressive! It's not a marketing buzzword being abused, but it actually works! Being able to offload problem handling and root-cause analysis, and get to the point analysis of complex systems is something very important, as systems/applications are getting even more complex.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the new Dynatrace offering, support for legacy applications is still not there. But given their excellent support of legacy applications and protocols in the AppMon & DC RUM offers, they have the knowledge to put it their, knowledge that isn't available in their competition.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dynatrace is excelent in troubleshooting scenarios. You don't get samples or gaps. You get the real thing. And that is absolutely important when troubleshooting the most complex situations.
Focus on root cause analysis has made for a significant drop in the importance of alerts. I was once used drowned in alerts, but now have refocused. Alarms are still there of course, but now they are about minor things, and I see myself getting rid of them very soon.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You're going to be surprised. It's difficult to keep pace with their solution. But it's mostly automatic, so you only to give importance to what's really important for you. But when you need the detail, or additional information, it's there, as there are no gaps, as it is not based on sampling.

best in class APM solution

  • December 18, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dynatrace not only tells you your users are having issues with your application, but also where you should look to fix the issue. In modern complex applications it is no longer enough to just hope for the best. The latest product utilizes AI and massive automation make it really easy to deploy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The products or the company goes through a rebrand/renaming about once a year, which creates some confusion with customers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Finding issues that previously occupied people for months. Just pointing the finger at a problematic piece of code is magical. Business and IT come together to understand how apps work, no more unproductive discussions and blame game.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When looking for an APM solution people look for a solution that provides most metrics. With Dynatrace a lot of the metrics are hidden behind the scenes and only surfaced when needed. Most important is whether you monitor all transactions or just sample every now and then. I would rather base my decisions on all transactions than a random sample.

What do you like best about the product?
The holistic view that Dynatrace provides into the performance of a client infrastructure. Also the capability to record sessions for analyzing performance issues
What do you dislike about the product?
Having to convince clients that the high-price tag is worth it. Also platforms seems to have a relatively high learning curve for people that never used it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Performance tuning and monitoring large client infrastructures running our platform.

Market leading APM

  • December 11, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to fault diagnose to code level through the entire delivery pipeline. Faults in Production are traceable through Dev/Integration/Test. This reduces the number of issues making it to live but also gives operations/infrastructure the ability to talk to developers in a common language.
What do you dislike about the product?
This is not a simple fire and forget application. Time must be taken training everyone who uses the application, not just a few who set the system up. Buy-in must be top down to realise the full benefits of the application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There are the obvious benefits of detecting issues early in the development lifecycle but there are benefits that are above what was expected - security threats, DNS poisoning, multiple api calls for a single action, the ability to track license costs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't under estimate the ability to capture 100% of all transactions. This should be a requirement when doing comparison. Not all major issues are in the top X of problems, some are in the 0.1% of visits but are the most costly.

Solution Engineering Manager

What do you like best about the product?
The insight that the Dynatrace platform provides is quite amazing through the simple installation of the One-Agent. The replaying of "Problems" can provide deep understanding of how an issue developed.
What do you dislike about the product?
The vast amount of detail available can take time to sift through to find the areas that are going to provide the most valuable insight on your environment. Take time to develop a relevant DashBoard.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a Managed Service provider the value we can provide to our customers, on top of infrastructure monitoring, is in a language that they understand more clearly and that is the experience of their customers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take the 15 day trial - you will be amazed at the insight the platform provides.

Helped solve our performance problems

  • December 05, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Dynatrace provides the most comprehensive and detailed information about application performance of any of the APM vendors (and I've used a few). It makes it easy to access and lays it out in the way a developer or performance engineer thinks about it. It's an essential tool for anyone who cares about performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a lot of data provided, sometimes inexperienced users get overwhelmed and don't know how to optimally analyze the data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We wanted to have fast root cause analysis of performance problems during development and production. It helped enable our testing cycles reduce from months to weeks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is the best of the major APM vendors for detailed analysis needed to execute on performance engineering initiatives.
