What do you like best about the product?
Flexibility to utilize different data sources and even combine sources.
What do you dislike about the product?
Relatively steep learning curve for me, seems to be coming a little easier now.

Visualization of data, better understanding of trends
Solid Visualization Software
What do you like best about the product?
Visually, Tableau produces compelling dashboards for internal use as well as client-facing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some dashboards can take awhile to load, depending on the data sets being utilized.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Bringing dozens of disparate data sets together into one visualization platform. Once we have had API connections working appropriately, Tableau is great at visualization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For our needs, it was important that a separate data warehouse was functional before layering on Tableau.

The graphics and charts created within Tableau are normally much easier than building anything in Excel

Building preexisting spreadsheets that auto feed Tableau can be difficult

Easy to use for all levels. Great for bringing on new members and getting them up to speed

Slightly outdated IF. Overall its good however, some screens are outdated.

Consider how much customization you will need. If you need high customization, Tableau may not be right. If you want standard style reporting with ease of use then Tableau is the right choice
Tableau for teachers
What do you like best about the product?
Tableau offers free licenses to students and faculty. This makes visualizing data easy for students, as well as basic analysis. Really great for undergrad and graduate students who need to make presentations or charts for reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cannot export large images - are fuzzy in large poster presentations which makes it difficult for me to recommend to students. It would be nice to have a bit more control of the image size/ quality and format.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helping students recognize the value of data visualization and the impact it has on their work.

It's great for analysis and visualization as long as you do not need to export high quality images. (that need to be blown up)
Tableau Desktop Review
What do you like best about the product?
Tableau Desktop is a powerful data visualization tool that allows our organization to connect and manipulate multiple data sources at once. This visualization is useful when sharing data across a variety of both internal and external stakeholders. The ability to create maps with Tableau Desktop is a nice feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
Connecting to our Salesforce instance is quite complicated and cumbersome. I find Tableau Desktop to not be very user friendly. Some programs I enjoy working in, but unfortunately that is not the case for me and Tableau.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau Desktop allows our organization to visualize our data in ways that our standard Salesforce application cannot. This is especially helpful when creating presentations for clients.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Tableau Desktop is very powerful but not incredibly user friendly. If you have the time and technical experience it can be a useful addition to your organization.
Great BI tool and great community/support
What do you like best about the product?
The Tableau community is phenomenal. Every time I feel like I've stumbled onto a dead end, there's someone out there who's solved it. And Tableau's customer service and tech support is fantastic too. I'm particularly pleased with version 10.1 which has a bunch of features I was looking for.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's not Alteryx or Excel so there are a few things it can't do but it's not supposed to. It's a fact that takes getting used to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Everything from sales analysis, retention, reporting, data mining and BI. I was even able to put together a Cube!
Easy to use and very powerful
What do you like best about the product?
Intuitive as well as easy to visualize. Easy to carry out a quick analysis as well as delve deeper into the weeds.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far, I haven't faced any problems using Tableau. Adding additional charting tools in future updates would be great.

Looking at large data sets and deriving conclusions from them. It allows for easy navigation through data.

Look at the cost vs man hours that can be saved
Use it daily, nightly, weekly
What do you like best about the product?
Best software for data visualization since back when I had to build my own charts with PHP and GD.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost. I wish it cost a lot less because I'd love to use it for personal purposes!

Able to get reports done far quicker!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great software once you learn it. Requires a lot of training. Hell, I went to the conference this year and spent $5k and STILL feel I need more. Part of this is only having used this for a year...
