Ease of use, multiple sources. Fast acting changes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it gets bogged down but certain sources but desktop is better than web.

Reconciling between sources, once reporting has been set up it has been easier to retrieve data for common tasks.

Very powerful for visualizations and analytics

  • October 27, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the ability to draw together diverse data sources and do joins and calculated fields right within the application. It has taken over many tasks I used to use Access or Excel for.
What do you dislike about the product?
Takes a long time to learn to use well. Sometimes hard-to-see changes in the setup of a page (e.g., changing the color of a pill from blue to green) can dramatically change the output, which can make results frustrating to debug.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Tableau to analyze multiple related data sets simultaneously; this lets me avoid having to upload and join the data sets in an application like Access before getting into analytics. Saves time and makes advanced statistical analysis look easy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I found this product hard to learn by just playing around with it; good courseware is necessary to get up to speed on Tableau.

Tableau Desktop

  • October 27, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau allows for easy data visualization regardless of the data type. It has been useful for creating presentations as well as making analysis decisions for work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not appreciate how difficult it is to learn how to use the software. It can be a complicated system to pick up and the tutorials are not always easy to follow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am solving the business problem of presenting data in an understandable way. It makes it possible to conduct analysis with hard data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think you should reach out for additional support and tutorials to truly master this software. As it stands the tutorials are not adequate to make Tableau a useful solution without external training.

non-technical, intuitive way to visualize data

  • October 27, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The drag and drop dimensions and measures make it easy to build complex visualizations that would have otherwise taken hours in Excel. If you don't have a hypothesis or know what you're looking for, you can dig around in your data to find insights without worrying about wasting too much time since the visualizations are so easy to build. It's great for using Google Anlaytics because if you're working with data from a large site, it automatically queries new sets of data to prevent sampling, which means your findings are much more accurate than if you looked in Google Analytics itself.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike how difficult it is to join data sources. Tableau isn't useful unless your data has really been cleaned and is all in one central database. If you're trying to blend different spreadsheets and databases or perform inner joins, it gets very messy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I wanted to accelerate diagnosis and reporting on website performance and be able to present findings to clients in a very visual way. I also wanted to take large sets of data from Google search to find new areas of opportunity.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're looking to Tableau to understand clean, historical data, it's fantastic. Tableau cannot be used for predictive analytics though unless you package it with R.

Helping to tell better stories using Data

  • October 25, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We are using this tool for HR Analytics and it really is both user friendly in allowing for data to be displayed in a way that makes it incredibly accessible to all stakeholders at the Center and easy to drill down to make important business insights digestible with the help of the big data team we can easily connect with a variety of dffierent databases from which data is easily uploaded.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downsize is probably the cost, particularly for nonprofit organizations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it to tell better stories about our organization around talent. Talent acquisition, talent retention and talent management.

Leading tool in usability and integrations

  • October 24, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Describing the potential of the tool is quite simple given the usability and technical differentiation of the platform. From learning, through the sophisticated interface, to implementation, absolutely everything in this tool refers to the fantastic purpose of Business Intelligence in organizations. The interface is a differentiator, aligned with usability through the connection with different data sources. Big data is quite admirable in the tool and the integrations have an enchanting performance speed. The support and community are a positive factor. I recommend it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Price is a threat factor for small businesses that do not have the budget for Business Intelligence projects with this interface. Languages and programming are some of the factors that require prior knowledge from programmers considering the use of the tool. It is important to highlight that the package is sold with a limited number of licenses, meaning that for organizations with more users, the need for more licenses becomes necessary, which represents additional cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Development of Dashboards whose integration with legacy systems allows for a synchronicity of opportunities and quite advanced readings. From the implementation of Tableau, the reading can be established with different databases, from Excel to large systems like SAP and Oracle. The tool has connectors that allow and generate easy integration between different types of systems.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The recommendations are the best. The Trial is a complete platform that allows an initial experimentation which will bring the necessary answers to users and managers.

Solid early stage tool

  • October 21, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The initial learning curve and startup was pretty smooth, with a lot of good value in the first week or so of use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The scalability seems to be finicky, requiring either more expertise or time than our team has available to spend or just intermittent functionality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data visualization of our entire fleet performance all at once, with the ability to have real-time reports dynamically generated.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely try before you buy. As long as you can leverage the software immediately upon installation Tableau is well worth the time.

Tableau server is flexible with connections

  • October 20, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- connects with various types of data sources
- gives the option to refresh automatically or keep the copy static
- performs all the joins and other SQL functions in the background
What do you dislike about the product?
- should be more intuitive for connections and easily identify which SQL functions are required. Some of the joints that we apply of different sources (large tables) are complex and it becomes difficult to understand the output and validate its accuracy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- Slice and dice our key metrics, raw data from incident management and site availability perspective.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
- Don't completely rely on the outputs. Make sure that you validate the data in the backend (atleast for the first time)
- some of the graphing capabilities are better in Excel (especially when u want to render it in power point)
