Tableau - Great analytics!
What do you like best about the product?
It's so easy and intuitive, you can learn it yourself if you have previous training in Excel or other analytics packages. Lots of good training tutorials on the web, too.
What do you dislike about the product?
That I don't know how to use even 40% of what the software is capable of.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Business data analytics >> decision making
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look at Tableau, but also investigate Wave Analytics, especially if you're using SalesForce.
Lots of data in a managable package
What do you like best about the product?
It is a great way to view population data in a way that is more managable and easy to digest.
What do you dislike about the product?
Through no fault of the software, the data can be overwhelming. In fact, my criticism is that there seem to be too many options and that this program could be simplified and made more user friendly this way.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use this software to look at data around population health: ED visits, projected and actual costs, ect.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A great tool to try out, however, it takes some experimentation and experience to fully benefit from the data.

Ability to quickly tell a story with the data. Has been critical in presentations to executives.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be difficult to create complex charts on the first try. I wish that there was a quick reference guide so I that wouldn't have to work by trial and error.

Basic data analysis. This tool allows me to create presentations that helps me identify opportunities and generate buy-in.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just try it. Tableau now offers a free version that is a great way to get your feet wet while you are still deciding whether to buy or not to buy.
Quick solution but don't like
What do you like best about the product?
It's quick to implement data data dashboards using this tool. But it's not great.
What do you dislike about the product?
Back end is awful, not enough customization options, very slow to load data.

Making data actionable.
Useful tool for getting the "big picture" of data

I like that it allows non-technical people a user friendly way to manipulate data.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that I felt that the software was a bit slow and cumbersome with large data sets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was able to create an increased visibility of otherwise hard to find data. I was able to use Tableau to show data on a hosted web server that was accessible to all of our employees.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are using small data sets, it will probably work very well for you. However, if you are using large data sets, you may want to consider a different tool.
Visualization on Tableau Desktop
What do you like best about the product?
Better visualization than most data analysis software
High level of customization to varying levels of granularity on the same sheet or without recreating different visualization for higher or lower levels of granularity. For example, by using filters such as age bins we can visualize how a dependent variable changes with the regressors in different age-groups on the same sheet. We do not need to create different figures for different age groups as in other software.
Managing databases such merging databases, e.g., inner join, outer join, are much easier in Tableau.

I have not yet been able to figure out how to add error bars if I have already a column for that data. This is easily accomplished in other software such as SigmaPlot.
Being a comprehensive application, it requires some initial training. It is not something I can start using it right away.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have just been using it for a month or so. We are using it for our academic classroom project and my research project. We are visualizing healthcare data related to prevalence of most common causes of morbidity and mortality in the US over the last few decades and how effective the US healthcare system has been in improving these rates.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Understanding this application will require some patience and time. But I guess this effort will be well rewarded with continued use. I have the opportunity to use it free for one year on academic license. I am however taking a tutorial on Udemy.com for learning this application. Time spent learning this is worth it.

Very customizable interface and also allows regular reporting. Great at-a-glance trend view

This product has a steep learning curve for beginners, even those familiar with data analysis via other tools. Small changes generally require expertise to change

Easier data analysis, specifications setting, and process monitoring

Have an onsite expert, with sufficient training to use the software, managing changes and custom dataset

The ability to perform data visualization at all levels-beginner or quick analysis to advanced analysis where you control and program your own variables and code.

The learning curve can be steep if you don't have access to a lot of resources to get started. Training is pretty much necessary to get value out of this product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use this product to analyze our business performance and visualize how our contract vehicles are being utilized by vendors and customers. We can answer complex questions from business lines and leadership and help ensure that we are conducting business efficiently and meeting performance metrics over time. This ultimately ensures we are good stewards of tax payer money.

Be sure to take any available training so you can get the most use out of this product. There are a plethora of resources online through Tableau and from users submitting content via discussion boards and youtube. It is imperative you have clean, high quality data or you will not get much out of this product.
