User-friendly tools elevate visual insights and boost reporting automation

  • July 29, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Tableau is to develop dashboards and automate the reporting process.

What is most valuable?

The best features of Tableau that I admire the most are that it's user-friendly, intuitive, and the visual aspect is impressive.

I have used interactive dashboards for real-time data collaboration, and they are beneficial because they give insight in a way that's visually appealing to the user. The tendency to retain the information is larger than a standard report.

What needs improvement?

I had a thought about how Tableau can be improved regarding the visuals and borders. I had a frustrating time with the borders a few weeks ago. When trying to make them all the same and shade the border, you have to shade all four sides. You cannot create a line per side. It's one of those small nuances where it's all general, and you cannot make specific changes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have approximately eight years of experience working with Tableau.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

I'm a user and did not use an integrator, reseller, or consultant for my deployment, as the people from data architectures are the ones that deploy it. Once everything is set up, I just use it, and I don't have experience setting it up.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Tableau is pretty good, as I have not encountered anything problematic. What I appreciate about Tableau is that they have updates periodically, and some of those updates are actually quite useful.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Regarding the scalability of Tableau, I think it can scale effectively. It's capable of handling large amounts of data. I haven't encountered any scalability issues, as I haven't worked with data volumes that caused trouble running.

How are customer service and support?

I'm not in a position to fully rate the technical support from Tableau, as I've had limited interaction with them. However, based on my experience, I would rate them a nine. They do respond and are pretty responsive to their clients.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have substantial experience with solutions in the analytics industry. I was searching for tools because my company was looking for information to compare different options, which led me to the Peer platform. I have experience with Tableau and Power BI, but I don't have Domo experience.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Tableau is relatively easy for me, as I've been using Tableau for a while now.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have experience with the main differences between Tableau and Power BI, and understand the pros and cons between these tools. Generally, the visuals are nicer in Tableau, but there's a wider array of functionalities to choose from in Power BI. That's the main difference, including the formulas.

What other advice do I have?

They're still exploring the primary cloud provider for Tableau, so I'm not sure yet which direction the company plans to take.

I'm not sure if I purchased this solution directly through the AWS marketplace.

I don't normally use Tableau for the analytics capabilities such as ad hoc analysis, as I usually just use Excel for that.

Regarding the price of Tableau that I used to think was expensive, they've changed their pricing model recently. There's no minimum number of viewers that you have to purchase. A company can purchase just a few creator licenses and mostly viewers, so pricing-wise it's competitive. It can compete with solutions Power BI.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate Tableau an 8.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Other

What do you like best about the product?
Best in class data visualization compared to Power BI or Python.
What do you dislike about the product?
Limited automation and scripting, and perhaps could do more with real-time analysis.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau has given me yet another opportunity to dig further look into data analytics and visuals. It has given me better credibility as a consultant and training in data analytics and visualizations. Stands as one of the top class applications in this area.

Best Report Preseting By Data

  • July 28, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As a Data Analyst at CENDROL CONSTRUCTIONS PVT LTD, Tableau has become an indispensable tool for our construction business intelligence and client reporting needs. What I love most is the powerful visualization capabilities that allow me to create compelling dashboards for our management team and clients. The drag-and-drop interface makes it easy to transform complex construction data into clear, actionable insights.

Specific workplace examples of Tableau's value:

**Project Performance Dashboards**: I created interactive dashboards that track our construction pipeline from initial estimate through completion. Our CEO uses these during board meetings to show project profitability, timeline adherence, and resource allocation. The ability to drill down from high-level metrics to individual project details has improved our strategic decision-making significantly.

**Client Reporting Excellence**: Tableau allows us to create professional, branded reports for our clients showing project progress, budget status, and milestone achievements. Instead of basic Excel charts, we now deliver visually compelling dashboards that showcase our project management capabilities. This has helped us win 3 major contracts this year where clients specifically mentioned our reporting sophistication.

**Construction Analytics**: The platform excels at analyzing our construction-specific metrics like cost per square foot by project type, seasonal demand patterns, material waste percentages, and subcontractor performance over time. For example, I discovered that our kitchen renovation projects have 18% higher material costs in Q4, leading to adjusted pricing strategies.

**Integration Capabilities**: Tableau seamlessly connects to our construction database systems including Buildertrend project management, QuickBooks accounting, and our Excel-based cost tracking spreadsheets. The implementation was surprisingly smooth - within 2 weeks, I had our key performance dashboards operational.

**Mobile Access for Field Teams**: Our project managers can access real-time dashboards on mobile devices while on job sites, allowing them to show clients current progress and address questions immediately. This field accessibility has improved our client satisfaction scores by 23%.

The storytelling features help us present construction data narratively, which is perfect for client presentations and internal strategy meetings. Being able to guide stakeholders through project data with interactive stories has transformed how we communicate performance and identify improvement opportunities.Like Visualisation that we can do from tableau and Ease of use and Integration

What do you dislike about the product?
While Tableau is powerful for our construction company analytics, there are specific limitations we've encountered in our industry context:

**Learning Curve for Non-Technical Staff**: Our project managers and operations team initially struggled with creating their own reports. The interface, while intuitive for analysts, requires significant training for construction professionals who aren't data-savvy. We invested about 40 hours in training sessions before our team became comfortable with basic dashboard creation.

**Construction-Specific Template Limitations**: Unlike generic business dashboards, construction reporting requires unique visualizations for project timelines, Gantt charts, cost breakdowns by trade, and safety incident tracking. Tableau's default templates don't cater to construction industry needs, requiring significant customization time to create industry-appropriate visualizations.

**Performance Issues with Large Datasets**: Our 5+ years of detailed construction project data (material costs, labor hours, daily reports) sometimes causes slower loading times, especially when multiple users access dashboards simultaneously during our weekly project review meetings. Complex calculated fields for construction metrics like labor efficiency ratios can take 30+ seconds to refresh.

**Mobile Limitations for Field Use**: While Tableau has mobile capabilities, some advanced filtering and drill-down features aren't available on mobile devices. Our project managers often need to access detailed cost breakdowns while on job sites, but the mobile experience is limited compared to desktop functionality.

**Licensing Costs**: At approximately $70 per user per month for Creator licenses, the cost adds up quickly for our 25-person team. We had to carefully evaluate which team members needed full functionality versus view-only access. This is particularly challenging for construction companies with project-based budgets.

**Integration Challenges**: While Tableau connects to most systems, integrating with some construction-specific software like certain project management tools required custom connectors or manual data preparation, adding complexity to our workflow.

**Limited Real-time Capabilities**: For construction operations where project status changes hourly, Tableau's data refresh limitations can be problematic. We sometimes experience delays in seeing updated safety reports or daily progress metrics. Some certian areas tableau not able to work on that
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau has solved several critical business intelligence challenges for CENDROL CONSTRUCTIONS PVT LTD that were limiting our growth and operational efficiency:

**Data Fragmentation & Reporting Inefficiencies**: Previously, our construction project data lived in separate systems - Buildertrend for project management, QuickBooks for financials, Excel spreadsheets for cost tracking, and our custom database for client information. Creating executive reports required manual data compilation that took our team 2-3 days monthly and often contained inconsistencies. Tableau unified all these data sources into real-time dashboards that update automatically.

**Client Communication & Project Transparency**: Our clients previously received basic progress reports via email with static charts. Now we provide interactive Tableau dashboards that clients can access 24/7 to view their project status, budget utilization, timeline progress, and quality metrics. This transparency has improved client satisfaction scores by 23% and helped us secure 3 major contracts where clients specifically praised our reporting capabilities.

**Executive Decision Making**: Our CEO and project managers previously relied on outdated spreadsheets for strategic decisions. Tableau's interactive dashboards now provide real-time visibility into project profitability, resource allocation, seasonal demand patterns, and subcontractor performance. For example, we discovered that kitchen renovation projects have 18% higher material costs in Q4, leading to adjusted pricing strategies that improved margins.

**Construction Analytics & Performance Optimization**: The platform enables sophisticated analysis of construction-specific metrics like cost per square foot by project type, material waste percentages, labor efficiency ratios, and safety incident tracking. These insights have helped us identify underperforming subcontractors, optimize material procurement, and reduce project overruns by 31% over 18 months.

**Field Operations Support**: Our project managers can now access mobile dashboards while on job sites to show clients real-time progress, address questions immediately, and make data-driven decisions about resource allocation. This field accessibility has reduced project delays and improved customer communication.

**Measurable Business Impact**: Since implementing Tableau, we've achieved 25% faster reporting cycles, 35% improvement in project forecasting accuracy, reduced manual data work by 15+ hours weekly, and enhanced our competitive positioning through superior client reporting capabilities.Tableau solving my data analysis and Visualization thing and lot's of story telling parts also there tableau alwasy helping me

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau connects and gathers data from a wide variety of sources without putting too much effort into it. Tableau allows us to integrate all data sources into a one environment, where we create real-time visualizations for daily as well as strategic purposes. KPIs are much easier and faster to track.
What do you dislike about the product?
We would like to have an AI-integrated feature that does what we type in words without doing it manually by ourselves.

I use Tableau to track KPIs, and make use of them by analyzing data, and we do it gathering multiple sources. The interactive and dynmaic dashboards are used by decision makes across our 27 branches in the company. It not only helps to visualize marketing and product metrics but also to understand customer behavior and infer actionable insights.

Tableau Helps Create Helpful Visual Data Depictions

  • July 25, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau is very useful when we need to create visualizations of complex data that otherwise might be difficult to understand or explain. It also helps depict sales and pricing data in a more easily digestible/accessible format, and is rather user friendly and streamlined in terms of UI/UX.
What do you dislike about the product?
The training/introduction to it could have been better from Tableau - most of my FAQ & troubleshooting have been with other users/my coworkers since they often can answer more quickly/efficiently. Tableau could benefit from more clear or robust onboard help.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tableau helps solve the issues surrounding data accessibility and data access for those within the company that do not have a data background. This especially is helpful when we are working cross-functionally, since different teams and team members all have different backgrounds.
