Offers detailed reports to users, and it is easy to maintain

  • July 31, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company to monitor the backup status and to plan in areas like capacity planning, such as how much current backup utilization is used. The tool can maybe predict the future trend of the data groups and their growing size.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is that its reports are detailed compared to other tools. It can integrate with VMware, and it can see VMware's recent status while it can receive alerts for Veeam Backup. The tool can be highly integrated with VMware and other Veeam solutions. Reporting-wise, the product is good. You can choose any templates for your report from the solution's consolidated data.

What needs improvement?

The tool should add more hypervisors inside it, like Hyper-V or Nutanix since it is an area of concern in the solution currently.

I feel that the product's support team needs improvement.

I feel that there are some new features in the new version of the product, which is Veeam ONE 12.1, and it also has some anti-malware functionalities. I have not found the new features in the product to be useful because it has so many false positives. The product needs to be integrated with some antivirus solution so that its new features can be used in a better way.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for three to four years. My company has a partnership with Veeam ONE.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far, my company has not had any issues with the product in terms of stability. We have installed the product and it runs properly without any major issues.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support is satisfactory. I rate the technical support an eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

My company uses Arcserve and some products from China, like Vinchin. Acronis was also a solution that was used in my company in the past. So far, we found that Veeam ONE is quite good compared to other products. Veeam ONE is balanced in terms of its interface, backup design concepts, and backup infra.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was quite straightforward.

One person can manage the product's installation phase.

The solution can be deployed in two to three hours. You just let it run with SQL and some other things. The installation process is quite straightforward. I just follow the installation steps, and it can be done easily.

What was our ROI?

I have seen some time-saving benefits from the use of the product in my country, up to 20 to 30 percent.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I consider that the product's price falls under the middle range category.

What other advice do I have?

The solution is easy to maintain, but so far, we didn't have any major issues with the tool.

Actually, in our organization, we didn't go for any compliance parts with the tool. For our customers, we went for some audit purposes to meet some compliance requirements. Veeam ONE can generate some particular compliance report files from its users' available data.

I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

Has valuable disaster recovery features and good technical support services

  • July 19, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is most valuable?

The platform's most valuable feature is continuous data protection. It is useful for data management and maintaining availability. It helps mitigate points of failure.

What needs improvement?

The product's initial setup process could be complex for application backup and database agent installations.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Veeam Data Platform since 2015.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the product stability a ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is highly scalable in a cloud environment, which I would rate as nine out of ten. However, in a local environment, its scalability is constrained by the existing infrastructure.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support services have always been good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process's rating varies depending on specific requirements. For server backup, I rate it a ten. It can be more complex for application backup and database agents, so I rate it around seven. On average, I rate it eight or eight and a half.

It is deployed in both cloud and on-premises environments. A simple agent installation might take an hour, while a full server setup with all features could take up to a week.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the pricing a five, depending on the application and environment.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam is highly effective in supporting disaster recovery. It provides detailed configuration options and generally performs better than Acronis.

The product's key features for managing data recovery include performance improvements and backup capabilities for various systems and virtual servers.

Its impact on operational costs and recovery time objectives depends on the defined policies, such as differential or full backups, and recovery time objectives.

AI in Veeam is still developing. I have seen some documentation but still need to engage with it fully.

I recommend it to others and rate it a ten.

Efficient for data protection and simple to use

  • July 10, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

How has it helped my organization?

For data recovery, we do some tests. We haven't had any problems yet. The tests we've done work fine.

What is most valuable?

For me, it's perfect. We don't have any problems with backups and applications.

Immutability is the most important aspect of data protection in terms of Veeam Data Platform. That could be one critical factor for us.

Data protection is the most valuable aspect.

What needs improvement?

We had one problem once with the multinet in the network, but it wasn't a big problem. It was a problem with the network itself. That is the only problem we have had.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for two years. We use the current application tool, the new one, that's the tool server that I use.

How are customer service and support?

I personally haven't requested any support, but my coworker has and says it's good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have also been using Veeam ONE for about two years to monitor traffic and jobs. So, mainly as a monitoring tool.

We use it to monitor everything. We don't have any other tool like it. We used to use vRealize Operations Manager, but we don't have that anymore. That's why we use Veeam ONE. It's easy to view all the infrastructure.

How was the initial setup?

The infrastructure we have is simple.

So, the initial setup is very easy as our environment isn't complicated.

We finished the deployment in about three weeks. We didn't deploy the solution solely for the strategy part. It took us three weeks because it wasn't a priority for us when we deployed the solution. So, the deployment time could have been less.

We didn't have any problems with integration into our existing ecosystem.

In my opinion, maintenance is very simple. We don't have any problems with updates.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is not expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would give it a ten out of ten because I haven't had any problems with maintenance. It's very simple and our environment is also very simple.

So for simple use, it's a very good tool and fulfills all our needs.

I highly recommend it.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Has a straightforward migration process and good backup functionalities

  • July 09, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

How has it helped my organization?

The product has significantly streamlined operations for our clients, simplifying their data management and enhancing protection measures.

What is most valuable?

Nearly all of Veeam's features are beneficial, particularly standard backup functionalities, application-specific backup capabilities, and the ability to create backups in Azure and our data center for disaster recovery purposes.

What needs improvement?

They could improve the product's response times for technical support and enhance support for newer hypervisors.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with Veeam Data Platform for about 11 years now

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Once users become familiar with Veeam's operation, scalability is straightforward. There's a learning curve, but it's manageable.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support services are good. However, the response time could be better.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In addition to Veeam, we have migrated clients from competitors such as Dell Backup (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager), Spectrum Protect (TSM), and Arcserve to Veeam.

How was the initial setup?

The product migration is generally a straightforward process. We assist with the initial setup as part of our service offerings. Setup times vary based on the environment, but typically, we can complete the initial setup within a day. Additional time may be spent configuring backup policies, discussing recovery point objectives (RPOs), and versioning requirements.

What other advice do I have?

We recommend Veeam to a wide range of businesses, from small enterprises to large corporations. Veeam products are generally user-friendly, although navigating through logs may occasionally be necessary, it's not overly complex.

I rate it an eight.

Amazing Backup Solution

  • July 02, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Veeam is easy to use and setup, support is top-tier, and the backups "just work." The scale-out and scale-up options are great for growth, and Veeam really fits any business backup need with plugins for most cloud services.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a bit OP for my specific needs, but I'm glad those features exist. Somethimes it can be confusing to know what components I need or don't need, and how all the pieces fit together (confusing because I'm not using them, not because it's inherently confusion).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Veeam backups up everything to local and cloud storage, and has features to follow the 3-2-1 rule of backups with minimal administrative effort. REstoration of lost/damaged files is a breeze.

Since Veeam v1.0 to today, they always provide a great and consistent experience!

What do you like best about the product?
I love how it backs up everything I throw at it! They have added Postgres and allowed the choice between that and SQL. Options are great!
What do you dislike about the product?
It can even backup physical Solaris boxes, and Mac workstations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is solving our backup and disaster recovery options by providing us multiple options for recovery and the flexibility of putting them where we need them most. We have even started leveraging our on-prem S3 solution to back up to and increase the security of our backups.

Backup made easy and fast

  • June 26, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I'm quite new to this backup game, but Veeam just blows the competition out of the waters.
1. Speed in backup and restore
2. Robust secure configs

We could restore an entire VM of 1.5TB to ESXi in about 15 minutes from a local drive to local. We benchmarked against other backup software but nothing is as close to this speed.
We run hourly backups and the ease of intergrating them into multiple vCenters is just excellent.
Maybe the next step is to actually get a higher tier subscription for malware scannning.

Try the community edition for yourself and experience it.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you're new to the platform.
Navigating isn't the easiest. Config is feature packed. Security is so tight you would love to hate it.
But better secure than insecure.
One small drawback might be the backup size that Veeam creates. They are so massive that you might have to upgrade your datastore just to accomodate the backups.

I had to call Veeam support a few times just to get my head around where is everything and how to configure everything.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Backup and restore and replicating important servers, host and files at the speed that is needed in a fast paced environment.
