Altium 365: The perfect tool for PCB design and collaboration

  • October 10, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about Altium 365 is the relentless way it facilitates collaboration in the cloud. It's perfect for working on PCB design projects in real time, which is ideal for international teams. The seamless integration with Altium Designer and the ability to access designs from anywhere makes it, for me, the most convenient tool (the one I use practically every day). Additionally, for those of us who use version control tools (such as Git), we really appreciate the centralized library management and the option to reuse designs that help speed up the development process. The interface is intuitive (like any tool, you have to invest in some time to understand the different functions so you can actually discover how easy it is to implement in practically any PCB project) and the support from the growing community is key.
What do you dislike about the product?
This may not apply to many users, but for me, given the environments in which I occasionally work (nautical or outdoor environments), the dependence on a stable Internet connection is very inconvenient, since like any cloud platform, it presents a problem in places with poor or intermittent connectivity (although it is logical that in the absence of Internet, there can be no data exchange, and then proper interaction, I think that one or another mechanism for offline work can be improved). Also, the cost of the tool can be a tremendous challenge for small teams or individual users. Finally, I haven't interacted enough with customer support to generalize, but perhaps there is an area of opportunity in response times and ticket resolution. Otherwise, I think everything else is very well done.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium 365 solves several key problems in PCB design, especially in relation to collaboration and version control. The platform facilitates simultaneous teamwork, which reduces errors and speeds up the development process. By centralizing design files and component libraries in the cloud, all collaborators can manage the same information, avoiding problems with outdated versions and missing files. Also, similar to Git, the ability to track changes and revert to previous versions helps to strongly counteract all kinds of errors, which is key to meeting customer deadlines and ensuring the highest quality of projects. In short, it optimizes teamwork, saves us time and allows us to focus the effort on what really matters, the design.

Altium 365: Powerful tool for PCB design and collaboration in cloud-based platform

  • October 04, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful things are we can access from anywhere, online documentations for all the topics, large user community, user-friendly interface. The upsides are team collaboration, version control designs, neat and well integrated workflow, centralized library management, reusing the designs and speed up the development process.
What do you dislike about the product?
The least helpful thing is, i can say nothing there from my side, I'm using it from 2020. The downsides are one is cost and another one is Internet depency since it's cloud based. Other than that, everything is top notch.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Team collaboration feature is very useful to complete the design as earliest as possible and completing the desgins as clients expected deadlines.

The best tool for PCB desigen

  • October 04, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to use and offers a large number of options, extensions and design verifications.
What do you dislike about the product?
The vast amount of features can be also a curse, some of the features do not work properly. Probably the development was not done till the end. For example, the layer stack needs an update. If you have an advanced PCB then you must create an additional document for PCB manufacturing. All that could be done in the layer stack manager.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The PBC design can go really fast from the schematic to PCB and documentation export. File sharing is also great.

The best software for pcb designing

  • October 04, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the best features of Altium 365 is its cloud-based collaboration. It allows teams to work together on PCB designs in real-time, sharing designs and libraries easily, which makes it highly efficient for remote and distributed teams. The ability to access and review designs from anywhere, coupled with the seamless integration with Altium Designer, is a huge advantage for design workflows.
What do you dislike about the product?
However, a common drawback is that Altium 365 can be resource-intensive, meaning it might require high-performance hardware and a stable internet connection to work smoothly. This can be challenging in environments with limited resources or bandwidth. Additionally, some users find the subscription model expensive for smaller teams or hobbyists.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium 365 solves collaboration and version control issues by letting teams work together in real-time on PCB designs. It centralizes design files and component libraries in the cloud, so everyone accesses the same data, avoiding confusion and file version issues. You can also track changes and roll back when needed, which reduces mistakes. Plus, it simplifies sharing with manufacturers, streamlining the production process. This makes teamwork smoother and saves time overall.

Convenient, Organized, Useful, but at times, Limited.

What do you like best about the product?
It's great to have all the projects I'm working on in one place that anyone can access without having to have the software downloaded. Even though I have the software downloaded, I use it when referencing a design because it tends to be much faster than Altium is on my computer.

The Project compare feature is amazing and great for design reviews. My team is currently utilizing the Design Review Beta and its great that 365 can facilitate new features that easily.

I love being able to sort my colleagues into different groups like Librarians, engineers, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
I really want more options when it comes to editing. I would love to edit parts in 365 or even export all the info about our library there. At the moment, that is quite limiting. As an Admin, the Admin settings feel confusing to use and also limited in their use.

Tasks doesn't feel there yet. It's just a To-Do list. I use what my team uses and no one really uses tasks in a meaningful way. We use comments, me specifically, all the time. But there aren't that many extra tools beyond.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to share projects is awesome. Quickly viewing mine or others projects is a huge help. Technicians don't even need Altium to view our current projects.

Managing releases and doing comparisons is great.

365 helps analyzing what is already there.

Altium 365 has transformed the way our team collaborates on PCB design projects. The cloud-based platform allows us to seamlessly share, view, and review designs from anywhere. The integration with Altium Designer is excellent, enabling real-time updates and comments, which has significantly streamlined our design workflow. The ability to access design data from any device without needing the full software installed is a huge advantage for quick design reviews and decision-making.

The version control feature is another standout, allowing us to track changes easily and ensure we’re always working with the latest version of the design. It’s also incredibly helpful to have the supply chain integration, providing live component availability and pricing information.
What do you dislike about the product?
While Altium 365 is an amazing platform, it can be a bit overwhelming for new users at first, especially those unfamiliar with cloud-based tools. The learning curve is steep, particularly when managing complex projects. Additionally, the pricing might be a bit high for smaller teams or freelancers, but it’s worth it for the extensive functionality.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium 365 solves several key problems related to collaboration, version control, and accessibility in PCB design. In the past, our team faced challenges with file management and miscommunication during design reviews, especially when working remotely or across different locations. Sharing design files through email or other platforms often led to confusion over the latest versions, resulting in mistakes and delays.

PCB Design using Altium 365

  • October 03, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I used Altium designer on a regular basis for designing PCB's. These are the best parts of Altium :
1. Simulations :- While designing a heat-sensitive PCB , I could run a simulation which showed me which parts of the PCB would heat up the most and allowed me to design appropriate cooling systems.
2. Differential routing :- The differential route tool allowed me to quickly route differential signals and ensured that my PCB was least succeptible to EMI.
3. Ease of Export : I loved the ease of converting a PCB Project into an output job with Altiums built in UI.
What do you dislike about the product?
I disliked the lack of a native library loader for Altium. I used the extension script library loader, but would love to have that feature in built so that it functions seamlessly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
1. Multi Layer PCB Design
2. Simulation of Designed PCB's (wrt heat distribution and tolerance)
3. Differential routing
