Altium is the only tool I imagine using for PCB design
What do you like best about the product?
That it allows for clear control of design version history, still improves with the application features and allows for a decent library management.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the subscription models change. I also do not like the lack of logical connections between the component and its footrpint and symbol revision statuses
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Process implementation and library management
Altium Designer and Altium 365 as a platform for hardware-software project acceleration.
What do you like best about the product?
Altium designer provides a powerful set of features yet it is presented in a way that is easy to use and understandable for people at every level of knowledge. It provides very quick and easy way of inspecting, designing and managing designs that makes is an ideal thing to integrate into embedded design workflow. Great documentation and support also helps with maitaining high productivity and deliver designs in time.
What do you dislike about the product?
In my opinion navigation in project could be made more obvious, sometimes going back to other schmatic is not as well displayed as I'd like it to be, this is mostly the case for just reviewing, but this should be seamless for even unexperienced user.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium Designer allows our EEs to design very readable and complete schematics and layouts that then can be easily reviewed and discussed with all other engineers in the project (either mechanical, or embedded). Every engineer with a little tutorial can safely traverse project shcematics and check the information that is useful for him.
An EE Student's Perspective on Altium 365
What do you like best about the product?
I love the Manufacturer Parts Search. It is very convienient to filter out what parts I need and be able to import all the models without downloading anything. Plus, the links to the different suppliers are great too.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike how counterproductive the UI is. I like to work on just my laptop, but I haven't figured out how to pan without using an external mouse.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has a Git-like workflow to track changes to PCBs made by multiple collaborators.
It has support for many common PCB part models, and you can make custom footprints for unconventional parts.
As a student, I like using it because I know Altium 365 is used in industry, so it is preparing me for the real world.

Long Time User of Altium (formerly Protel)
What do you like best about the product?
I've been using Altium, previously Protel, since the 1990's. It has been fundamental to my electronic design work. Working at a university allows me to access the software at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend Altium to my academic colleagues. We also design our own enclosures, so I like the way I can export and import 3D models of parts.
What do you dislike about the product?
My only issue with Altium is the price for commercial users. I think it's worth it for large companies, but I think it may be prohibitive for start-ups or small scale companies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium allows me to design custom circuit boards with high precision. It also enables me to integrate mechanical features in the design.
Great Design Software
What do you like best about the product?
Has almost everything you can ask for out of a PCB design software
What do you dislike about the product?
Very steep learning curve, partly due to its number of features
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Was looking for a design software to daily drive and Altium Designer fits almost perfectly
Easy to use with lots of resources available.
What do you like best about the product?
Sleek design, lots of resources/support, intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
random UI changes creates issues, the price is too high - would not use unless sponsored by company.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows my team to create custom solutions for aero applications. Allows teammates to share and collaborate on projects easily.
Straightforward and easy to use, lots of features and lots of resources.
What do you like best about the product?
I like how it's user friendly and easy to navigate.
What do you dislike about the product?
In some of the versions, the layout design rules location cahnged.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium has the feature where you can make a workspace and you can view your projects online. It also has version control which is really helpful for working with other people on a project!
Altium pros and cons
What do you like best about the product?
Many well-built features including the PCB design itself, simulation, built-in library etc.
Really great resources for students/professionals trying to learn how to use the software
Has cloud features for working in a team, can be handy

What do you dislike about the product?
Price is prohibitive, hard to justify when free tools exist that suit many smaller-scale projects just fine
Can be a little resource intensive to run
Can be a little resource intensive to run
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing simple 2 or 4 layer boards for prototyping sensors, power distribution etc. that are custom to the application.
powerful software but confusing at first
What do you like best about the product?
A lot of functionality, once you get the hang of how to use it it's clearly the best PCB design software
What do you dislike about the product?
High learning curve to get started using altium
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing PCBs
Altium 365 enhances an already great product
What do you like best about the product?
Altium 365 has been amazing for collaboratively working on projects with other engineers for schematic and printed circuit board design. It is a feature I found myself frequently using to share files and easily fit into my workflow as an experienced Altium Design user. As a user the integration was easy as an admin had already set it up and I was just using it as an extra tool or plugin almost to Altium.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the downsides is the requirement to use Altium Designer. This can make sense if a project or team has alaready stnadardized to Altium but can be a hassle for bringing others onboard, especially newer Altium users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the problem of collaborating on a complex project while maintaining version control. Myself and other engineers can easily edit schematics and layouts in the same project without a fear of overwriting or not checking out work properly.
