Altium Designer, the future of Electronics Design
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Altium Designer is its unified design environment, which integrates schematic capture, PCB layout, and component management seamlessly. The software's advanced tools for high-speed design and 3D visualization are incredibly powerful. Collaboration features like Altium 365 facilitate real-time sharing and teamwork. Customizability and automation options streamline workflows, while the comprehensive component libraries save time. Overall, its intuitive interface enhances productivity and design accuracy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The thing that frustrates me about Altium designer is that the subscription fee is too high and beginner designers like me find it hard to afford it. Also as the features are many and hard to understand it would be great if there are more free online courses on the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium Designer solves problems by integrating schematic capture, PCB layout, and component management into one platform, which streamlines the design process and reduces errors.It helped me to make most efficient dedigns for my academic projects and also for small scale projects I do for my clients.
Switched from NI
What do you like best about the product?
We switched over from the NI Circuit Design suite a few years ago for a number of reasons, some of which are Altium's wider compatibility with other CAD, the large component database that continues to be updated, better simulation and more tools, and overall just a significantly more functional array of options.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve and complexity is very intimidating at first. Luckily, there is a large database of tutorials and instructions online. Unfortunately, half of the tutorials I have found are for an older version of Altium, and the link to the newer database often leads to a somewhat unrelated tutorial which doesn't answer my question. But there isn't anything I haven't been able to figure out a solution or workaround for yet!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The large component database saves a lot of time switching and finding alternatives. This was very useful during component shortages during covid, and allowed us to quickly and efficiently make design updates.
Professional application that includes all the options you need, well known and used in companies.
What do you like best about the product?
Very clear for new users. It has all the features you need to design or create components easily. With the student license you really get to learn because you'll have access to everything. Support is provided through the website. Easily export your pcb outputs without effort and get you project organized.
What do you dislike about the product?
The simulation tool is not accurate or at least not easily modified to be accurate
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PCB design ! Gaining time and effeciency of designs. Mainting organized libraries between all the team

Ease of collaboration, being able to use a verified component by the team, and supply chain stats

There is a possibility for inconsistent component library architecture because of component type vs explorer folder structure

Altium Designer, The best PCB design software I have used.
What do you like best about the product?
Altium has some of the best features on the market, I have used many other alternatives but settled on Altium as it is the most intuitive to use. I use Altium pretty much every day. The manufacturing part search is the most amazing feature I have used. Another amazing aspect of Altium is the huge library of useful plugins. Support is amazing when using Altium, when starting to use Altium you are presented with practically unlimited guides are resources on how to use it. Altium is also very easy so implement in a company thanks to its many management features.
What do you dislike about the product?
At times Altium can be slow and painful to use, especially on a slower internet connection. Altium can also be fairly hard to run on lower-end devices. The lack of support for macOS is very frustrating at times as I use both a mac and PC during my day.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium allows me to easily manage everyone else working on a project with me to make sure everything goes smoothly.

The multiple tools it offers for every need the designer may have. It is easy to learn and to download.

It is not collaborative with my limited license.

It allowed me to design my own PCBs for my final thesis project.
Very Easy to Use and Comprehensive
What do you like best about the product?
Altium Designer is amazing!
- The web viewer is very convenient when I want to quickly show my design to a colleague
- The software is incredibly optimized, it runs smoothly on my less-capable devices

What do you dislike about the product?
There are a few minor nitpicks:
- Creating library components is very repetitive and complicated, there are definitely ways to streamline the process
- There's no ability to replace "manufacturer part search" components, which makes me have to redo my layout and routing when I do need to replace them
- Some "manufacturer part search" components don't come with ECAD files when they are actually readily available online

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm using Altium Designer to collaboratively design my PCB boards. It is an industry-standard tool with a plethora of resources, making it easy to solve technical issues.

What do you like best about the product?
I was really surprised of the shortcut and the cleaning controls. One of the upside is the f1 button, really comfortable. It's a really powerful software that allows you to do everything regarding the pcb design.
What do you dislike about the product?
The thing that i disliked the most is the user interface, sometimes I struggle to find a function.

I develpoed electronic board and I think is the best software to do it.
Experience as a beginner with Altium Designer
What do you like best about the product?
My favorite part about Altium Designer its the ways you can interact easily with the software, the selection and implementation of devices happens in a smooth way, you get to know almost all the features and parameters of every part, so the integration of new parts to the project requieres no effort. Also, when you find with no clue about a characteristic of the software, you can find a lot of advices and support, so you can learn in a fast way what do to in every case
What do you dislike about the product?
For me, it may be the way you add footprints to the devices, the management of libraries and that you can't make operations with the values of the cells at the BOM, I believe that would make a easier to preset the report to the team and managers involved
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem that Altium helps to solve at my team is the cost estimation of the boards, cause the company works with different suppliers and the information about the cost is an important key to take actions.
The ease of collaboration seems top of the world.
What do you like best about the product?
Apart from the best features in Industry that altium offers, the ease of collaboration and working together is unmatched. I remember my time working on a project and my proffesor had some injuries due to which he couldn't be in person to guide us. Thanks to altium we were able to collaborate through Altium 365 workspace and there was no delay at all in finishing it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Come on, do I really have to answer this question. I mean, I got no dislikes most of the time. But one thing I would like to suggest to altium is to Introduce a version for linux based machines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The inclusion of vast libraries and the ease of importing components is the thing I like the most about Altium. ECAD designer software though allows similar features but they seem less intuitive and hard to work with. Apart from this the UI/UX of the product seems classy and stylish.
