Very powerful program but steep learning curve
What do you like best about the product?
Many features integrated between schematic and PCB layout. Powerful tools for creating BOMS. Easy to learn for drawing and routing traces
What do you dislike about the product?
Project open should be under the project menu and not under file menu. Schematic drawing experience is different than other tools and takes some getting used to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
it has allowed me to create PCB's without long term training.
Altium 365 Has its ups and downs, but overall is a Great product
What do you like best about the product?
As an electronics engineer, Altium 365 is a great tool for me. Overall I like the program, I'd say it is the easiest ECAD tool I have used thus far. What I liked the most is that, it helps designers to collaborate in real time with other designers and mentors during the project phase, and also allows supervisors to give real time feedback for the designs being done.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I liked the least about Altium 365 is that it takes time to fully understand the features that Altium 365 provides. There aren't many online and free resources to learn the tool and we would like the opportunity to learn more about them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For us, we benifit from the large component database. It really saves us a lot of time from switching and finding alternatives. Altium was very useful during component shortages during covid, and allowed us to quickly and efficiently make design updates on the fly and we continue to use it still.
Altium the tool of almost every job.
What do you like best about the product?
Altium has the widest range of parts included in their library with the ability to easily add new ones. Easy to integrate into any workflow.
What do you dislike about the product?
When first using Altium, all the settings and functions are a little overwhelming and hard to use. With a few quick Google searches and Altium's tutorials I was able to master the program quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium solves the problems of having to import every part you may come across into your project. Their giant library almost always has the part I'm looking at. Altium also allows for easy integration with 3D CAD software, making the design process for a full product that much easier.
Altium is great for our robotics team!
What do you like best about the product?
I really love how everything in Altium is integrated with Altium 365. It makes it super easy for source control, and working with other people. Aditionally, the design rule checks as well as the other things that Altium does automatically is super helpful when designing a board to make sure that it is going to work when you order it. Our robotics team operates on a very tight schedule, and we often don't have time for a board to not work correctly. I have designed numerous boards in Altium, and none of them have ever failed due to all of the features Altium provides.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike most about Altium is the cost. We are super lucky to have been sponsored by Altium in order to get a few licences for our team, as our annual budget is much less than a single seat! I understand that Altium is a very professional software, but even when working with the Altium support people we found it difficult to get more than one licence for our team. Much like how Dassault Systemes sponsors all FIRST Robotics Teams 40 Solidworks licences, it would be amazing if Altium would to the same so we can learn proffesional software before going into industry jobs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Electronics modules that can be bough off-the-shelf for robots of our scale can be incredibly expensive, and Altium helps us build the individual components into our designs. We use Altium to design PCBs for sensors and LEDs, at a much lower cost than if we were to buy as many modules as we do components. FIRST Robotics is also education based, so the fact that we get to learn how to use industry tools in high school is really amazing!
A Complex Yet Powerful Tool
What do you like best about the product?
Once you get the shortcuts down, moving through documents and working on designs is a breeze. There are countless ways for users to take advantage of what Altium has to offer under the surface.
What do you dislike about the product?
For new PCB designers, I would not recommend Altium due to the steep learning curve of the integrated tools. The software may feel clunky and slow for someone who doesn't know what they are looking for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working in an enterprise evnironment, I find the integrated cloud server features truly phenomenal and quite unique to Altium. It is easier than ever for my coworkers to collaborate on and review my work.

What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Altium Designer is its unified design environment, which integrates schematic capture, PCB layout, and component management seamlessly. The software's advanced tools for high-speed design and 3D visualization are incredibly powerful. Collaboration features like Altium 365 facilitate real-time sharing and teamwork. Customizability and automation options streamline workflows, while the comprehensive component libraries save time. Overall, its intuitive interface enhances productivity and design accuracy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The thing that frustrates me about Altium designer is that the subscription fee is too high and beginner designers like me find it hard to afford it. Also as the features are many and hard to understand it would be great if there are more free online courses on the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium Designer solves problems by integrating schematic capture, PCB layout, and component management into one platform, which streamlines the design process and reduces errors.It helped me to make most efficient dedigns for my academic projects and also for small scale projects I do for my clients.
Switched from NI
What do you like best about the product?
We switched over from the NI Circuit Design suite a few years ago for a number of reasons, some of which are Altium's wider compatibility with other CAD, the large component database that continues to be updated, better simulation and more tools, and overall just a significantly more functional array of options.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve and complexity is very intimidating at first. Luckily, there is a large database of tutorials and instructions online. Unfortunately, half of the tutorials I have found are for an older version of Altium, and the link to the newer database often leads to a somewhat unrelated tutorial which doesn't answer my question. But there isn't anything I haven't been able to figure out a solution or workaround for yet!

Professional application that includes all the options you need, well known and used in companies.
What do you like best about the product?
Very clear for new users. It has all the features you need to design or create components easily. With the student license you really get to learn because you'll have access to everything. Support is provided through the website. Easily export your pcb outputs without effort and get you project organized.
What do you dislike about the product?
The simulation tool is not accurate or at least not easily modified to be accurate

PCB design ! Gaining time and effeciency of designs. Mainting organized libraries between all the team

There is a possibility for inconsistent component library architecture because of component type vs explorer folder structure

Altium Designer, The best PCB design software I have used.
What do you like best about the product?
Altium has some of the best features on the market, I have used many other alternatives but settled on Altium as it is the most intuitive to use. I use Altium pretty much every day. The manufacturing part search is the most amazing feature I have used. Another amazing aspect of Altium is the huge library of useful plugins. Support is amazing when using Altium, when starting to use Altium you are presented with practically unlimited guides are resources on how to use it. Altium is also very easy so implement in a company thanks to its many management features.
What do you dislike about the product?
At times Altium can be slow and painful to use, especially on a slower internet connection. Altium can also be fairly hard to run on lower-end devices. The lack of support for macOS is very frustrating at times as I use both a mac and PC during my day.

Altium allows me to easily manage everyone else working on a project with me to make sure everything goes smoothly.
