Altium - The great PCB designer software

you need to understand well the software in order to use it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having good 3D module to review. Easy to generate the production packages.

What do you like best about the product?
I really like that i can view and manage my projects online. This makes it easy to collaborate and show the progress and discuss difficulties in meetings.
Inever used the customer support personally, but heard that it is really could compared to competitors.

What do you dislike about the product?
At the beginning of this year the contraints manager was introduced and there was a bug, where it could not be disabled when starting a new project.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Altium at our university to work together on pcb designs and benefit on shared components and template library.
The online viewer really helps when sharing a design with the hardware team.

What do you like best about the product?
Altium365 eliminates problems and inefficients in the hardware development process, providing the oppurtunity to bring the product to market faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
Any type of circuit can be simulated and prepared.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is necessary to create ready circuits at the desired frequency and be simulations to give an example of what kind of results we will encounter.

- If you don't use it everyday, it takes time to relearn some of integrated tools (b/c of total toolset scope)

Altium is a great collaborative tool that allows for turnkey product design.

It is very useful and compact. We can easily apply our thoutgs with Altium 365.

Some useful links are very hard to find.

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of importing components from 3rd parties, and the user interface makes pcb design alot easier. Another aspect of Altium I like is the ease of making custom component symbols and footprints. The routing tools and controls make layout a breeze, especialy the custom rules. The 3D rendering of the boards also looks very visualy appealing.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dont dislike anything about it, I think it is a robust system. Although I think a block diagram specific option would be useful rather than making a block diagram on a schematic, but this isnt that important to pcb design just documentation. One thing I wish were better though, is that I wish the traces on the 3D model to show up better but thats all.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is solving the difficulty of making custom footprints and symbols with its intuitve GUI. Also the issue of project and file managment, altium makes everthing streamlined.
Altium 365 from the perspective of a PCB designer.
What do you like best about the product?
The first thing that is cool about Altium365 is the ability for other users to post comments on schematics and PCBs and a window that allows you to mark the problem as solved. Another thing that makes work easier is the ability to log in via a browser without having to install Altium Designer on your computer. The account management and user interface is clear and simple. I had no problem with implementation of using it. I use Altium 365 almost every day. I have never used customer support because Altium 365 videos and tutorials are sufficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
Integration with mechanical engineers is still an issue. This is due to the inability to use Altium on a local server.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can share and review projects with multiple users on any computer (e.g. at home). This makes it easier to implement the product.
Usefull and Useless of Altium 365
What do you like best about the product?
Library management is awesome. Everyone in company can use same library. In addition, it can check component status (active/obsolute etc.), price, footprint etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like template system of Altium Designer. It needs to upload every template to Altium 365 and some templates can be secret that we prefer to work local. But Altium does not want us to work local.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our company, there was no shared library. So everyone was using their own libraries. Because of this problem, we could not work with others project (or want to send their library to work without problem). I am verry happy to solve this problem just using Altium 365.
Very good pcb design experience
What do you like best about the product?
I love the git capabilities built in. This makes it easy to share work with contractors or coworkers and track previous versions. There is also an excellent manufacturer library that is a good base to build your own library off of. Rules are easy to use and make it a strong tool when designing pcbs with high technologies. It also exports well to 3d modeling for my mechanical engineer to design enclosures off of.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are difficulties in project options and odd semantics when it comes to changing the names of exports. The application is high in resources demand so you need a strong computer with it or you will ve working very slowly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to rapidly develop new products electrically and mechanically to bring it to market. The export functionality to Gerber is quick and enables to manufacture quickly. We also have RF level circuits and the rules that altium provides helps us keep best practices and allows for working electrical design with SI/PI functionality

- many companies are using it, so it is very common
- some features are implemented like you expect it (e. g. STR´G +C, ...)
- Ease of use is missing
- if you use Altium very frequent, you will know a lot of shortcuts and some function will be really fats
- maybe a good solution for large development teams (some person for library, some for routing and some for developing the schematic)

- not possible to print what you see on the screen
- libraries are not organized and the footprints are not the best, so you should modify them manually

- customer support cannot help if you have problems (e.g. import schematics from eagle without errors) so it ois not possible to integrate your existing designs
