Great tool, good UI for high speed PCB design.
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, great UI. Good high speed design tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
The BOM tool can be frustrating to use.
Works only on windows. MacOS would've been great.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Design of high speed PCBs. We are a company that manufacturers hardware, so PCBs are essential part of the product.
Experienced Altium user
What do you like best about the product?
Integrated environment for both SCH and PCB
What do you dislike about the product?
Simulation. Would be better to include more built in parts librarry for Sim
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Board design

Altium Designed is the best tool in the industry
What do you like best about the product?
Altium provides all the tools needed to design complex PCBAs all in one package. I like how centralized all the features are and the interface. You can do part/library creation, schematic capture, and PCB layout all in one tool, which facilitates both design as well as other tasks, like board review or debugging a boad/bringup. I have used it for 10+ years and it is now my tool of choice.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the licensing options are very complicated to understand. For example, Altium Nexus licenses can be very complicated, so much so that even the reps sometimes get confused!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I design boards. Altium is a one-stop shop for all my needs - part/library creation, schematic capture, board layout, and generating files/documentation for manufacturing. It allows me to do all this on one tool that is very powerful.
Altium is better
What do you like best about the product?
More intuituve than any other Schematic, PCB CAD tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it was a little bit more friendly to modify and import whole design parameters in spreadsheet format.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows internal layout, mot needing to go to expensive outside services for EVERY layout, and end up with un reviewable results and find later things are wrong.
Powerful, complicated, expensive, and I wouldn't use anything else
What do you like best about the product?
We are on the Pro subscription, utilizing the latest versions, and we have fully embraced the 365 online tools. I have used a variety of tools over the years for PCB design both as a hobbyist and professionally. We used a competitor product for over 20 years before making the switch to Altium. Our growing need for greater capabilities and tight integration was what pushed us over the line where despite the capital expenditure, it was more cost effective. Having fully integrated it into our processes over the last 2 years, it has allowed us to advance our designs and save tremendous amounts of time. In particular, the online shared libraries, active BOM (saved us running with a part that was EOL but the distributors didn’t say anything about that because they still had stock!), and the CAD integration.
What do you dislike about the product?
This is a powerful piece of software and the learning curve is steep. However, there are lots of online resources to assist with this and customer support is excellent. The other thing is price. It is high. It is completely worth it as a professional doing PCB design, but this not something you just casually invest in for the occasional work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Pro subscription gives you everything. Schematic, routing, high speed, simulation, BOM management. There's even new cable routing tools that I haven't tried yet. The fact that we aren't limited or need to buy yet another module to do something allows us to be completely unconstrained in our design work.
By far the best PCB Design Software
What do you like best about the product?
Working with Altium allows you to set up your environment exactly the way you like it (it's very configurable) and lets you automate most of the time-consuming labor. It feels like modern software, unlike some competitor software that feels like it was designed in the 80s and just keeps piling on top of an old architecture. The collaboration features added with Altium 365 are incredible, they have made the review process as well as working with mechanical and firmware colleagues MUCH smoother.
Finally, it brings all the different software you may be using into one: Schematics, Layout, Procurement, Cable Design, Simulation, etc.

What do you dislike about the product?
It takes a little while to get used to all the different optional "Panels" and find a screen layout that makes sense.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Everything in Altium is configurable and the configurations can be saved and recalled so that you never waste time re-configuring the options when working on different projects.
Draftsman makes generating fabrication and assembly drawings very smooth.
Altium 365 makes teamwork and collaboration very easy. I love the comments/tasks feature that lets you start a conversation around a particular part of the schematics or layout and discuss it with the team until it is resolved. It reminds me of a graphical equivalent of Git for software.
Most of the processes we used to write in Word documents about our internal PCB footprint standards or where to place notes on the fab drawing have been captured inside Altium now so that you no longer need all this "support documentation" outside of your ECAD.

Lots of bugs, but still better than the competition
What do you like best about the product?
Pretty universally used by companies now. More intuitive than most other programs in spite of the UI inconsistencies. Generally has every tool you need to create a PCB from start to finish.
What do you dislike about the product?
Altium feels like a lot of programs loosely bolted together. Hotkeys and workflows that work in one area like PCB design are different in others like Camtastic or Draftsman. Altium pricing is getting high to the point that it's prohibitive for new users and small companies and the hard sell they do is frustrating.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a tool...it solves the same problem every other PCB design package does.
Profesional grade PCB Design Software
What do you like best about the product?
Altium's workflow is easy to use which makes using the project so much better. Also, Altium features a plugin called the MCAD co-designer that enables us to push PCBs to Solidworks and vice versa. This is critical for complex designs in tight form factors.
What do you dislike about the product?
The 3D navigation experience feels clunky at times and lacks vertical height measurement tools that would be very valuable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium is our go to for creating PCBs when we need a custom solution. It allows us to create schematics, layout chips, and route PCBs fast.
Very useful tool for profesional design houses
What do you like best about the product?
intuitive design workflow, superb library management, easy to use and powerful layout tools
What do you dislike about the product?
the random crashes after doing a considerable amount of work
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
multiboard projects design and good library management
