Ease of use for PCB design
What do you like best about the product?
I like the massive collection of schematic and PCB libraries and ease of use for schematic and PCB design. I also like the 3D View capability to check for clearance and overall fit on the PCB.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is expensive, but considering its features and ease of use would offset the high cost. I enjoy using it so much that I can’t think of anything negative to say other than the cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I like the ease of use of drawing schematics and its overall features to speed up the entire design process. I recommend it for both simple and complex designs.
Experienced High speed hardware designer
What do you like best about the product?
The look and feel of the Altium Designer are the best. And the all-in-one tool with both schematics and PCB layout integrated is better than competitors.
What do you dislike about the product?
I like most about the Altium Designer, but the harness and signal net labels could be more user-friendly if the net label name were, by default, the same as the signal coming out of a harness connector.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium Designer makes my work as a Hardware Designer easier. I have all to the design included in the same program, also the 3D representation of the PCB is very useful and can be shared with mechanical designers.
Intuitive Software for Complex Design
What do you like best about the product?
Schematic design with Altium Designer is easy to learn and ideal for teams working across departments and multiple sites. Altium Designer has many features, but even brief guidance and experience with the many tools and functions leads to user proficiency. Also, the Altium 365 cloud storage option permits access to designs and PCBA syncs remotely.
What do you dislike about the product?
The many features required for an electronic design software to be sufficient for industry use are time-consuming for beginners to learn, but having experienced engineers assist quickly speeds up the process. The Altium beginners' tutorials are helpful for learning, but they are slower to work through than working directly on schematics and getting help from people experienced with the software. If not already available, training with Altium may be improved by creating simulations that mimic real-world design using the software interface, and guidance by an AI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My electrical engineering senior design team's sponsor company uses Altium to manage projects, design schematics, sync schematics to PCBAs, determine component availability from manufacturers, and create BOM.
Great tool for complex designs and collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
The collaboration tools and integrations are amazing. The fact that I can send my files for review to someone and that they can access it online without a license is very useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Coming from KiCAD the learning curve is steep. There also does not seem to be a support for generic components that can later be associated with a footprint or MPN.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to design multiple boards and with a team is very useful. The ability to access the files online and being able to review and comment is also very useful.
best PCB software I know
What do you like best about the product?
I like hierarchical design, I use it regulary.
The secon think is the Project releaser with different output jobs. It very easy to create differnet outputs for production, for dokumentation and for the purchasing department

What do you dislike about the product?
When I create a hierarchical design and used it on different Pages, with same Net names, somestimes Altium rename the net but show the old name in the pcb designe.
The problem is that networks with the same name cannot be connected.
The problem is that networks with the same name cannot be connected.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for science experiments. There is almost no commercial hardware for experiments, so we often have to design our own hardware and adapt it to the experiments and their requirements.
Seamless, user friendly and intuitive ECAD Software
What do you like best about the product?
The workflow quickly becomes satisfying, as both some complicated matters and less complicated matters can take the same amount of time. The shortcuts are also snappy to work with.
What do you dislike about the product?
Altium Designer brings quarterly updates, and bug fixes in between. I wish Altium would use more time and energy towards bug fixing than bringing in new features.
Also a dynamic resizing feature after inserting a logo, graphic etc. would be amazing.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium makes for a more rapid development phase, which benefits customers. Altium 365 makes it possible for collaboration.
Best PCB Design Tool
What do you like best about the product?
It is almost anything a PCB designer can imagine, Excellent Library support, Mulitple types of Schematic to PCB design styles
What do you dislike about the product?
I think it is a bit expensive but given the tools and plugins as well as updates it is good
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing PCBs and solutions
Amazing!!!
What do you like best about the product?
The way you can connect the whole project/mission you are working on and the features that Valispace brings for efficiently doing calculations and keeping everything right there.
What do you dislike about the product?
There was nothing I didn't like about Valispace.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used Valispace when my colleagues and I were working on a Mercury Sample Return Mission design. When we came to use Valispace, we could put together our mission requirements in general and the mission requirements of each subsystem. This was very helpful as we all could see the work that each subsystem lead and team were doing. I was working on the Avionics and communications part, and some of my decisions were based on the calculations of another subsystem, or my decisions affected other subsystems. Valispace helped us discuss our choices while simultaneously being able to check each other's estimates. It also help us in revising that the decisions or calculations we were making were the right choices.
Best value for CAD tool
What do you like best about the product?
It is easy to use, along with good visualization features such as 3D views and scripting customization options. Also, the peer review feature is outstanding
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes too long to boot and uses significantly more memory than other CAD tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium facilitates the design of schematic and board layouts fast and efficiently.

What do you dislike about the product?
The large number of features are released sometimes withtout an extensive feature and regression testing.
Sometimes a new addition breaks functionality or feel incomplete.
There are some improvements that are largely due but, in our opinion, they are not receiving the needed focus
- There are just too many ways to work with component libraries. They are encouraging the use of online libraries that are tied to annual subscription and the never feel completely yours. Additional features (such as where used) require higher PRO subscription with additional costs. There is no easy back and forth migration path and documentation feels somehow incomplete about the viable options, their usage and their pros and cons.
- Some UI features could be vastly improved (such as IPC footprint generator, where you have to click several times to switch between pages and calculate by hand when parameters are given in different format in datasheets. Some competitors have a much cleaner UI);
- A real time collaboration feature on schematic and PCB (where each user connected to the workspace could make changes at the same time) would be a game changer but it is still not implemented;
- Some features feel hacky, such as assignment of SPICE models to components, GIT style commits for mechanical CAD interchange, or identification of connectors in multi board designs;
- Sometimes importing configuration from older versions make the system unstable;
- Price tag is high and additional features came at a cost (CDN analisys and PRO subscription in addition to standard subscription).

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PCB schematic, CAD and CAM editing is solid and very well designed.
In the years, we designed more than 200 circuits, some of them with controlled impedance, differential pairs, high speed, on-pcb radio antennas, multi layer and high density. We were able to work starting from reference designs in other formats when we needed to.
We never experienced issues in documentation output generation.
