    Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing

Great software at a price.

  • February 23, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Lots of advanced features, being able to sync the electrical design to the mechanical design has saved headaches of transferring the object files back and forth with versioning errors aplenty.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes with reduced internet availability the component library doesn't load fast, you are scrolling and get to the bottom of the list, then it loads another chunk of parts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The mechanical to electrical syncing is the best recent feature. It saves us from having mismatched versions transferring files through email. Great!
Recommendations to others considering the product:

PCB Collaboration on Digital Microcontroller for key Phased Array Antenna Module program!

  • February 22, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Altium 365 has provided an essential platform methodology for collaboration on critical designs, which is a first for the company.
What do you dislike about the product?
We use Cadence Allegro for Antenna Designs. Altium 365 has gone so well that it would be great to leverage Altium 365 for Gerber reviews of Allegro designs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our PCB review process has been chaotic at best. Altium 365 has our engineering teams and customers collaborating on designs that have provided significant benefits.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Altium 365 is a first in the PCB industry for PCB collaboration of this kind and has significantly streamlined our review process that we never thought possible. Altium continues to invest R&D in enhancing this platform, and I look forward to making suggestions and seeing the results of their efforts.

What do you like best about the product?
Ability for other disciplines in our team to access schematics, pcb design data and download STEP files
What do you dislike about the product?
Syncing feature needs more features. Would be good to be able to have all design revisions in the one projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Design reviews by our embedded software and mechanical team.

Nice web UI, quite good navigation, commands easy to use and similar to the desktop app
What do you dislike about the product?
Hard to checkout commits and see revisions on the web interface
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Firmware development while looking at Altium 365 to check hardware design for the PCB I am working on

Bringing PCB design into the 21st Century

  • February 22, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Altium 365 gives me version control and the ability to easily share projects with coworkers and stakeholders. Having everything in the cloud is so much more convenient because my team can access the designs from anywhere without needing to open up Altium Designer.
What do you dislike about the product?
The version control and part library can be confusing. I have been unable to easily transfer my local parts libraries to Altium 365.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows me to collaborate better with my team and access files my project information from the cloud. This is very helpful when I'm not at my desk and am emailing our manufacturer or assembling or debugging boards.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want to easily be able to share projects across your team or access your projects on the cloud Altium 365 is a great solution even if you are a small team.

Version Control done right

  • February 22, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Altium 365 helped us get version control right. It's flexible for your workflow, whatever it is, which in our case allowed us to set up a high integrity library and ecosystem we can depend on.

Altium 365 integrates seamlessly into Altium Designer, and offers a new way to review and collaborate through the web interface. You can view changes between design iterations easily, modify portions of a layout to a previous version, and comment and discuss schematic and PCB elements with a multi-disciplinary team. Especially in a remote working environment, this is a critical improvement when in-person meetings are no longer possible, and offers major improvements over the traditional PCB development process.
What do you dislike about the product?
Altium 365 takes some getting used to and didn't allow us to port our existing (git-based) ecosystem. We had to port our templates, designs and library components one piece at a time, and it took a lot for us to vet the new components. To be fair, this might have been a unique issue for us given how we had our library set up before.

One powerful feature of git that seemed to be missed is branching and merging. If two people are working on a design and one commits changes, the other person needs to resolve conflicts locally before merging the updates to the server. I would prefer to work on a separate branch in the server, then merge with the other branch when both are ready.

Other than these details, now that we have it set up, everything works very well. The opportunities for collaboration and continuous improvement make it well worth the effort. Knowing Altium, the experience will only improve from here.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We wanted to implement version control in our designs, making collaboration and design review possible. Altium 365 did this, and unlike the other options we considered, offered native support within Altium Designer to review changes in a design.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would easily recommend Altium 365 for medium- to large-sized teams where collaboration and review are required.

Altium Designer

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
365 is not bad, will be great in the future.
Having one cloud library that you can work from is ideal. Its a bit slow & clunky but its not exactly cloud native software. Will be great with a few improvements over time.
Saving projects to the cloud is great too. Again a little clunky but does the trick.
Powerful schematic & PCB editor.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cloud / 365 features are a little clunky.
I have had issues saving projects to the cloud that couldn't be fixed.
Have also had the odd random crash.
Its very expensive if you dont need all the features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Single parts library for the company.
Solid PCB layout software.
Saving projects to cloud is great.
Slow to learn but as always there is a lot of info on the internet.

    Aviation & Aerospace

Extremely handy but a little difficult at times

  • February 22, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Saves a lot of time with respository history, opening and closing projects. Ease of use is pretty good too, and its extremely helpful for sharing projects/documents
What do you dislike about the product?
We have had a few issues with it - repositories not being able to be pulled, or changes not loading correctly leading to some team issues. However the support team has always been quick to respond.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it for version control, which is very helpful at times. We also use it for sending our projects to contractors/suppliers. This has reduced our review and release time.

    Information Technology and Services

Best platform to work collaboratively as a team and manage projects with version control.

  • February 22, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the version control and the collaboration that is possible; I also like the possibility of engineer comments in the schematic or PCB to another engineer to do the suggested changes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Altium 365 does not accept multi-board projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Redesign of PCB whit integration of every hardware team and the team of designer mechanical.

User friendly, full-featured, and empowering

  • February 22, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I enjoy how Altium has a totally integrated environment, meaning that I don't need to use multiple applications to complete tasks. The intelligent routing and fanout features are time savings.
What do you dislike about the product?
It just takes a long time to master all of the features. There are some shortcuts that could be simpler. I also wish Draftsman functioned more like the schematic editor.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's really easy to use Altium 365 for working from home and having a shared repository for design reviews or working on the same project. It's much easier than using a separate Git server and manual commands in Powershell for commiting and uploading.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to work on your library early in your design process and use the manufacturer part search. Using the Git servers on Altium 365 is the most helpful feature. I recently learned about the part health features in the library manager. We want to learn more about it but it could be a life saver for your projects.
