Excellent tool for streamlining design and integration to PLM system.

  • January 27, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easily Configurable, Easily manageable, Integrates with Common PLM systems, If you are used to regular Altium, it is not much more effort to learn Nexus. Compared to other software I have used in the past, Altium is clearly on another level.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a lack of integration between Variants created and what would go into a PLM system - although there is a workaround. reindexing is also an issue as systems need to be taken offline to force a reindex, only to come back online and do a reindex with the system running. It would be useful to allow for reindexing without taking down the system to not cause interuptions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The universal library is easier to set up and manage. Previously we were using a database library but this was not intuitive to all users. Collaboration between different divisions is readily available, Quality issues will continue to decrease over time, Time savings in the Creation of components and uploading to PLM are substantial. Shared building blocks with revision control expedite the design process.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
if your system is running on one of their Supported PLM systems and MCAD products Nexus may be a tool to enhance your business.

The most comprehensive ECAD tool ever created

  • January 27, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of the tool is the absolute control you have over every aspect of the design. The tool lets you customize everything to meet your needs and helps speed up review, collaboration, and design verification.
What do you dislike about the product?
In general, there are very few things that I can think of that I dislike. The biggest thing is that it sometimes feels like features are pushed out too early and feel more like a beta release than a full version. I love playing with the new features, but when they cause issues with our workflow in critical times like production releases, it is very frustrating.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One of the biggest things that Altium Nexus has solved is unifying our engineers' development, collaboration, verification, and documentation standards. It has increased our productivity and reduced errors by allowing a single platform for everything.

and Altium support is very helpful
What do you dislike about the product?
when I connect to the database(component library) via VPN due to home office, it gets slow
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are an international company in many different countries

It's super friendly & Powerful tool for Electrical Engineers

  • January 19, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Altium Designer is a user-friendly tool. It has a schematic Editor & PCB design software working in sync. Both the schematic & PCB files are separate & independent. These files are reusable.
What do you dislike about the product?
It take time to turn on the Altium. Also crashes sometimes when new project is opened. Signal integrity tool has scope of improvement. It is not much user-friendly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a hardware Designer I am designing new schematics for electronic projects. This tool is useful for schematics designing and PCB layout. I prepare libraries for new components as per project requirements. Perform electrical design check for making sure all the connections are on place and electrically correct. Tool has signal and power integrity as add on tools for EMC compliance check. One can review the PCB in 3D view.

User Friendly schematic and Pcb design tool

  • January 10, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is very user friendly that the person having experience in any other design tool can learn easily. It comes with schematic design, pcb design, Importers, exporters for different type of files.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the things are too user friendly that allows human error chances. For e.g. we can make any net or components relate change in the pcb itself, which in turn open doors for eco to pcb from schematic error.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Schematic design, pcb design, DXF/ DWG import and export, Bill of material generation and export, 3d files view, export , step models view and assignment, export of 3d files, can be directly imported in any mechanical tool!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Good and user friendly tool for schematic and pcb design. Layer stackup design is also easy. Gerber generation is through one click.

    Defense & Space

Software is OK. Gets the job done. Crashes occasionally, random bugs.

  • December 20, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Cloud storage of projects in Altium 365 is useful, but collaboration between multiple users is not great. It is easy for multiple users to make edits without realizing someone else is editing the schematic due to the lack of ability to "check-out" files.
What do you dislike about the product?
The software seems to be an amalgamation of multiple legacy software packages that have been shoehorned together without being redesigned from the ground up for optimal functionality. This results in random bugs, crashes, and some unexpected behavior for users who are not familiar with the quirks of Altium Designer.

The schematic variant tool could be a lot better by allowing multiple alternate components to be set simultaneously. Currently, the user needs to manually select each part and set an alternate for each case.

Central libraries are very difficult to setup, and importing components could be much more streamlined. Currently, the user needs to rely on importing scripts and 3rd party add-ons.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been using Altium Designer for Schematic Capture and PCB layout. The tool hasn't necessarily helped me realize any benefits over other tools. In some cases, like library management, Altium has seemingly complicated things.
