Developer
What do you like best about the product?
Integrated tools to manage BOM. The stability of the Schematic tools and the advanced settings on the PCB Layout as well as cloud services.
What do you dislike about the product?
The price is a bit high compared to other options
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dealing with the lack of ICs during the Corona Chip Crisis
Altium Designer enables us to do complex design work while keeping up productivity
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use and wealth of design entry options support us even in complex designs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Performance in large and complex designs can sometimes be an issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We do a lot of designs with a lot of recurring elements - Altium helps us leverage modularization and design re-use.
Generally good, but can be better...
What do you like best about the product?
3D viewer and RF tools are the best. The integration between schematic and layout is good. I also like stack up manager and the import and export functionality..
What do you dislike about the product?
I always think the layout tools can be improved. I often use graphic tools like Inkscape, CorelDraw, and I often wished if Altium could provide some functionality seen in that graphic software. After all, they are all 2D graphic software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly RF design. It is quite easy to transfer designs from Ansys package to Atium. The best benefit I see is the inter compatibility with other software.........
Such a timesaver!
What do you like best about the product?
Generating PCB manufacturer files was always a long and tedious process with our old CAD software. But now that we migrated to Altium Designer, it's literally a one-click process. BOM, Gerbers and 3D STEP files are easily generated which reduces the mistakes we have made in the past.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI can sometimes be a bit laggy, but this is a minor issue and doesn't occur often. The software is also a challenge to learn, but that is simply a result from the rich feature set that Altium offers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have streamlined our PCB component library, which mean we make less mistakes by a regular auditing process. We also save a lot of time in generating production files for manufacturers.
After 40 years using CAD (and red tape) Altium is the best.
What do you like best about the product?
Everything integrated into one synchronised database
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm not too keen on the blurry splash screen
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With our Altium 365 workspace we don't need Mordac to maintain a server for us.
Engineering, procurement and production all see the same synchronised component database. (No Library Wars!)
Part Choices shows us which components are abundant and which are rarer than hen's teeth.
Our Sub-contractors can work on our designs using our components and we can see their progress.
Our Suppliers can download manufacturing data directly from our Altium 365 workspace.
Reviewers can add comments into both schematics and layout which are immediately available to the designers.
Version control records Who did What, When, and most importantly, Why.
Designs and components can be viewed by other departments using a web browser without having to purchase extra licenses.
Production can use the 3D view to help check component fitment and orientation.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it.
Great design platform
What do you like best about the product?
Altium 365 is a great platform that allows a transversal and integrated design between the team members.
It certainly makes the design experience more efficient by allowing a continuous and beneficial interaction between processes and design compartments.

What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing in particular.
For my current usage I did not detected ay negatives.

Sharing projects, libraries, and workspaces within the company (located in different parts of the world) and with external collaborators.
911EDA Recommends Altium for PCB Design
What do you like best about the product?
Altium Designer is an incredibly robust yet complex PCB design tool. We use this tool for most of our design work.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only downside is the increasing cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our customers appreciate that 911EDA offers expert PCB Design Services
Modern, Userfriendly
What do you like best about the product?
3D view of the circuit board and the possibility of creating assembly variants.
What do you dislike about the product?
No direct comparison between footprints possible. No documentation links at footprint (source pdf, change notes, poosible alternates)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We design very small and complex telemetry systems, in Flex, Semi-Flex and now we start with embedded PCB components.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The component management is the be-all and end-all. For this you need a basic concept!
My experience with schematics and layout checking using Altium Designer
What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful are the two training courses they offer which provie graet new information and there worked examples using actual project files.
The competitors don't offer this.

What do you dislike about the product?
Least helpful are sometimes the software is not as intuitive as I would like. For example it took me some time to get a handle on using the out job files. Just if the software
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One major problem I have solved is Altium makes it easier via snippets to reuse sections of schematics. This has meant I have been more productive and less double handling
Probably the best EDA software I have ever used.
What do you like best about the product?
Having previously used Eagle and KiCad I needed something a bit more powerful with the flexibility of different grids (cartesian and polar) I had to look around elsewhere. I initially started using Circuit Studio which is a slightly pared-down version of Altium Designer but then I also started to use more multi-board designs and decided to use a special offer to upgrade my licence to Altium Designer. The new cloud features are also a great touch so that people you partner with can view revisions, designs and comment on a web browser even if they don't have a full Altium Designer licence.
What do you dislike about the product?
The price can be a bit eye-watering to get used to but with the recent "subscription" plans it does become a lot more palatable. It would also be nice if they expanded outside the "Windows Only" ecosystem as my normal daily drive computer is a Macbook Pro which I have to use BootCamp to run Altium Designer. I would also at least love to see better compatibility when running Altium Designer in Parallels so I don't have to reboot into BootCamp. Currently in Parallels running Altium Designer in a virtual Windows machine has issues with hotkeys and scrolling. Would also like to see the MCAD collaboration tools for Fusion 360 work on MacOS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it for all the EDA designs for our product TimeChi. We use it in combination with Autodesk Fusion 360 and it helps by being able to export full CAD step designs for better integration with the Industrial Design team.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely try the free trial and check all of the educational tools before taking the plunge. Also, make sure you make full use of all their free training!
