The 'office suit' of eCAD

  • December 02, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very easy to use yet very powerful for experiensed users. There is much support for things like impedance matching, differential routing, 3D fitting etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes Altium as a company decides to change direction and obsoletes 'old' solutions. A more user-centric approach to bussiness development would be nice.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We do eCAD for various customers in many different fields. An through all projects, from small to complex, Altium has been a lovely tool. I personally have used other eCAD tools but none that I like as much

The best EDA software out there

  • December 02, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Altium has streamlined tools for every aspect of PCB design
What do you dislike about the product?
Some features don't always interact well with others. There are documented bugs that have gone unfixed for years.

The best CAD for schematics (and PCB) design

  • December 02, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Altium Designer is:
- easy to use
- powerful
- very intuitive
- features rich
I really appreciate its integration: you can design schematics, PCBs, interact with mechanical CAD users, easily document your work, connect multiple designs. I cannot imagine, at the moment, using another tool
What do you dislike about the product?
Its completeness can sometimes be a double-edged sword: you can get lost in its many features and encounter some difficulties in focusing on what you have to do. Sometimes the help section is not really intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designing electrical schematics, checking connections, designing PCBs, quickly finding vendors.
Up to a few years ago, my old schematics capture software did not allow me to integrate so many features. Using AD was, and actually is, a good improvement to my work.

It is flexible and very powerful in your design.

  • December 02, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
At any stage, you can change your design, library, and all the parts at your will. Esaily changing is a very powerful feature. This feature is like C++; you can do your changes very easily. At the same time, other tools may not allow you to change the library at PCB board design. Their tools like Java, safe but not powerful as Altium Designer. But it would help if you had a bit more time to learn these powerful features.
What do you dislike about the product?
A bit hard for beginners. Suppose we can provide a bit small video in each help topic. Many layout guys do not like too much reading. some 30-50 second video on each minor feature will answer more efficient in many of our searches.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
grid size has very bad effect on connectivity in Schematic. Could we improve this connectivity error. better round off grid size the accuracy at schematic stage

Modern ECAD Platform

  • December 02, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Altium Designer is based on a modern, familar architecture. Many other CAD systems are still stuck back in the 80s or 90s. The majority of Altium Designer is very user-friendly. My other recently discovered favorite feature is Altium 365.
What do you dislike about the product?
Designer still does have its quirks. One big thing I dislike is that each schematic page is a separate file. This increases the difficulty in archiving the design and does not make it clear that there is a full, cohesive package (files can get out of sync with the design, whereas if it were all one file, there would be no question as to what files went together).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium 365 has simplified the process of multiple users working on the same design, as well as being able to easily share the entire design with external parties. It is always a problem making sure that everybody has the "viewer" for whatever CAD platform you are using. This method had greatly simplified that so that it is easily accessible to others, and even others that don't know much about CAD.

Easiest to use software for PCB development

  • December 02, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
All functions are easy to find and use. The interface is self-explanatory, and schematics are easy to navigate. This is the most complete and useful ECAD program I have used up to now. The program is used every day, either for reference or for design.
What do you dislike about the product?
Altium has limited support for drawing PCB outlines without the use of external formats like DXF.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Altium has enhanced the development of electronics at the company. The fluid work environment speeds up PCB design.

It performs great! I love the ability to import footprints. It is an industry standard software

  • December 02, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to import footprints for the parts that I use most. Also being able to check the part availability straight from Altium is a big plus. I have used this software for work and it has a great workflow.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to see even more footprints and possibly an easier way to make your own footprint symbols.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am solving problems of PCB design of switching regulator. I currently use the product for personal use on academic projects. But have used it in industry where it sped up time to market on board development.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I have tried many PCB design tools like Eagle, KiCad, DesignSpark PCB, Cadence... This seems to be the best one out there in terms of ease of use.
